Worst service and trashiest hotel in Hollywood

I have lived in LA for 5 years, always drive by this hotel, heard good things, and wondered. So when guests came from San Diego, I suggested it for its great location, so we could walk to bars and restaurants, go to Teddy's, etc. From the second we arrived, every single person on staff was rude, obnoxious, and completely unhelpful. The front desk girls literally turned up their noses at us! We arrived early, couldn't check in until 3 p.m., so we went to Tropicana to have drinks and apps by the pool. The hostess gave us attitude, sitting us at the worst table in the house (right by a very loud speaker that was on its last leg, blaring out Bon Jovi songs). The people were all pretty gross - not glamorous at all, but girls with really bad implants who were going topless and making out with their hairy boyfriends poolside. The server took an hour to get every round, the food was bad and overpriced, and forget getting lounge chairs, as they were booked all day by noon. The bathroom was so small in our room, I am 5'4" and my knees were against the wall whenever I sat on the toilet. The fire alarm on the ceiling was hanging down loose off its wires (that made me feel safe), there were nail polish stains on the carpet, and even though there were three of us in the room, we only got two towels between us. Later that night, the doorman at Teddy's was unbearably rude and would not let us in, despite the fact that we were hotel guests, and when we called down to the front desk to complain, the guy said, "just because you're hotel guests doesn't guarantee entry into Teddy's...it's a private club, that's just the way it is..." It was July 4th, and the only people in line were ridiculously tacky tourists, and here we were, a hot blonde, and two brunettes with money to spend... RIDICULOUS. The next day, my friends promptly checked out and went to the Beverly Wilshire, which was an entirely different (and MUCH more upscale experience)!

Pros
+ Nice Pool

Cons
- EVERYTHING ELSE

old but good location by Silvana T. at InsiderPages

this hotel is pretty old and has a lot of history behind it but also a top line location for tourists. I have used it for years in my tour and travel experience, and all tourists loved it as they can walk to the Chinese Theather and all of the Hollywood must do stuff.

Dark deep orange embiance

If you like orange lighting against black panels, you might like this hotel decor more then I do. Efficient bath and accessories. Still have grumpy air conditioning system that can wake a cow up. Ten thousand moon at night with spot light shining directly at windows. Refrigerator is not turned on even though mini bar items were there. Front desk staff though not knowledgable are willing to help. 24 hours phone in tech support is great. Concierge and bell service above average. Location very convenient.

Immature, unhelpful staff

I had a relatively good experience with the valet staff and housekeeping, but the front desk, concierge and service staff seemend so inexperienced. It seemed as if they couldn't care less about their jobs -- like they were too good to be of service, as if they are unaware they are in the hospitality industry. Fell far short of expectations.

Great location for tourist activity and a beautifully decorated old hotel.

Pros
+ Location, decor, atmosphere

Cons
- Not worth the bad service

Star Studded Experience

I love this hotel. The decor and ambiance is amazing and worth the price. The drinks are expensive but that's what one would expect for the atmosphere. I saw Lindsey Lohan and Marc Jacobs in the same night. I will definitely be back!

Wednesday Night is Great

I didn't stay in the hotel, I was just out there for the night to club. Went there on a wednesday night and they have a party out by the pool area. Around the pool sits "beds" instead of chairs, which is really nice. Candles light up the area and a dj plays dance music. I would've prefered some other type of music. The atmosphere is very friendly and 'loungey', great place to meet some really good looking people. Drinks are expensive I think but I don't usually pay for them so I'm not completely sure...definitely a place to check out. I loved it and I'm definitely going back next wednesday!

Pros
+ Great looking people, high-class lounge party

Cons
- Pricey drinks...not much else bad (course I only went wednesday)

THE BEST HOTEL IN LA!

It's really hard to believe all these negative comments. My friend and I recently stayed in Roosevelt on Hollywood, and it is one of the best hotels ever! The staff in general are all very nice. This hotel has everything. The rooms are huge and so comfortable. The people that stay in this hotel are mostly in their twenties, and very good looking men and women both. The pool area is just amaizing, the waitresses/waitors are very friendly. We had no problems getting in anywhere. The hotel is really pricey , but honestly it was worth it. We were treated really well, and i would definately recoment this hotel!

Pros
+ near by all the entertainment

Cons
- none

Unbelievably negative experience

We should have heeded the past reviews on this website, however, we were set on staying at the "Historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel". How could we go wrong?
Needless to say, our experience was almost identical to the ones already decribed on Citysearch. When we checked in the management was welcoming, but the experience totally degraded from that point on. In the evening, every bar, lounge, the pool, and the "historic lobby" was closed to either a private party, or you had to be on the "VIP" list. When asked how we get on the VIP list, the concierge handed us off to the front desk and the front desk ultimately told us it was "not for people like you and me, but for VIPs" .
Accepting this, we asked if they could recommend a place with dancing. They were so completely unhelpful that it was comical - apparently, there are no other places in LA they could come up with.
I don't know why an "upscale" hotel would not be more welcoming and helpful to their guests.

Pros
+ The name is prestigious.

Cons
- Unhelpful and even degrading service.

Rude, Degrading, Horrible Management.....get the picture?

Dare I say this was likely my worst hotel-staying experience ever! I can't stress enough how much of a farce the Hotel Roosevelt is. I booked my $335 dollar room at the Roosevelt, looked at the pictures on their website and was so excited to stay. When I get to the hotel the management delays my check-in because they have my information wrong in their computer....took us 30 minutes to check in. When I get to my room it is a corner hell-hole with a bathroom that is literally 3x4 with a "shower" that you can barely spin and wash in. The real bad part is yet to come. We inquire about having drinks at Teddy's, one of the bars at the hotel. We were told BY HOTEL STAFF, "You can't get in unless you're a celebrity." We proceed into the lobby and find it being set up for a hotel party. We then see signs telling us that we CANNOT GO ANYWHERE IN THE HOTEL AS EVERY BAR/ROOM IS CLOSED FOR A PRIVATE EVENT!!!! Upon inquiring about this we were literally told that we could only enter through a back door and walk to our room! Like we were prisoners! I later learned Britney was staying there and likely a gaggle of other celebs who we were deemed not worthy to be with. I had enough, so I went to management and told them I was cancelling my reservation, to which the manager could have cared less. He told me "don't book with an online broker." Also, "Give us a try again sometime." We left with barely an apology and went to Beverly Hills to stay at the Four Seasons which was amazing! It was such a contrast to the Roosevelt dump that I am literally ashamed for staying 2 hours at the Roosevelt. I hope this helps someone not make the mistake of booking a stay at a place that hates you unless you are famous.

Pros
+ None at all

Cons
- Price, customer service, small rooms

Great Location

I wasn't blown away by the hotel itself, but the location is perfect. And there's always something going on. Plenty of star-spotting to be had. The service levels were good and the rooms were adequate but far from exceptional. Mind you, I was there a couple of years ago - maybe it's had a face lift since then.

Terrible customer service -- they seem to think that you should be honored to stay there

My experience at the Roosevelt Hotel was less than ideal. It is over-priced, pretentious and the clientele are either a bunch of young obnoxious kids or irresponsible parents.

Upon walking in the hotel with my friends, we were greeted with "Don't overdose in your room and if we find alcohol in your room we will kick you out." At 400/500 dollars a night I expected at least a welcoming of some sort. Even worse was the security staff whom the hotel supposively contracts out and therefore claims no responsibility for. As a VIP member the one and only benefit we were granted was the ability to come and go as we please. Well guess again, getting back to our over-priced poolside cabana was a challenge to say the least.

Next time, I'll take my friends to the beach.

If you want a place to stay with a scene...

This is the place to stay if you are looking for a scene and be seen environment. The interiors by Mitchell Dodd are very sleek, and in some way a bit too sleek if you are trying to get comfortable after a long day/night of partying. There is little lighting in the rooms and the curtains do not block out enough morning daylight. The acoustics could be better because the wait staff does not mind their manners while people are trying to sleep! Actually, when we returned from being out, our door was open after the staff turned down the bed; next time we should use the safe inside the room just in case!! We were entertained by the characters sitting around the pool and there is surely plenty to do with 3 bars, lounges, and 2 great restaurants within the hotel.

Pros
+ Restaurants, Pool, Location

Cons
- Rooms, Noisy

Historic Haunted Hotel

The Hollywood Roosevelt has been featured in so many movies and TV shows, you're bound to recognize it when you walk in. Mostly, it's known for tourists for the haunted mirror with Marilyn Monroe's visage and some really strange hauntings. If you go to Hollywood, The Roosevelt is a must-see. The food in the restaurant is fantastic. If you have a lot of money and want to be in the center of it, definitely spend a couple of days based here. If not, when you are passing through, grab a drink at the bar and soak up the atmosphere. Lots of stars, too!

GREAT hotel in a great location

This hotel is amazing. Nice and very friendly staff, I even became friends with one of them who helped me get into a 944 mag party that was at the tropicana bar that night. The views from the rooms are really great of Sunset Boulevard and for mornings the Coffee Bean is right across the street. I also stayed in one of the cabana rooms which was so fun during the day, being able to just walk right out of your room to the pool and at night, exclusive access to the Tropicana bar. LOVE this hotel

Pros
+ beautiful decor, nice staff

Great Customer Service

I stayed at the Roosevelt for my birthday last year and I loved the hotel. The rooms were beautiful, the staff was very kind. I couldn't have been happier. I swear one of the elevators was haunted. I got stuck in it for a good 10 minutes and the door kept opening and closing really fast. The Tropicana Bar was beautiful, not too young of a crowd but then again I just turned 21. I recently checked out Teddy's and it was very chill, not pretentious, even though everyone there is beautiful. The drinks are expensive, so bring a date girls! :)

Pros
+ Service, Ambience

Cons
- Expensive!

New Decor = façade ... I miss the old place.

I understand that this hotel needed a face-lift, but it has become less of an old "Hollywood haunt" because of it. We used to love eating cheeseburgers and drinking affordable cocktails poolside. The rooms used to be slightly Kitschy and felt like an old Hollywood hotel. Now, the Roosevelt reeks of pretention and high prices. If you have Four-hundred bucks to spend on a room and ten bucks to spend per drink, you'll be happy here. The poolside rooms have a fake Asian style decor complete with dark hardwood floors. For this reason, you will never get a roll-away bed for your sleep-over friend. Also, security is pretty tight after the pool bar closes. They'll herd you back to your patio as quickly as possible! This place was never meant to be like The Standard Hotel ...

Pros
+ Pool, poolside rooms

Cons
- Over-priced
