We were robbed, REALLY! Too bad we can

Food is ok, but not worth being held up!

Yes...my friend and I were robbed while sitting outside. There was even a security guard on duty, but he apparently was too busy to notice that a deranged crackhead had come into the patio area off of Hollywood Blvd. threatening us and demanding our money and cell phone batteries. The restaurant was packed, yet not one member of the incompetent staff thought it was odd that there was suddenly a new guest at our table counting a wad of freshly-stolen cash.

Looking back on the night, the fact that the waiter screwed up our order, then spent several minutes belligerently arguing and refusing to correct his mistake almost seems almost like a fond memory in comparison. (Although, it did seem a little tasteless when he brought it up again after we were robbed...)

Don't let the seemingly reasonable prices fool you. Dinner for two for all of the cash in our wallets and a couple of cell phone batteries hardly qualifies as a deal.

Pros: ABSOLUTELY NONE

Cons: EVERYTHING, from the rude wait staff to the incompetant security system to the blah food

This isn't going to be he best food you've ever tasted. But it's off-the-wall and the food is cheap.

A meal for 2, including appetizers and drinks cost $28.

Outstanding Selection of Thai Food

Palms Thai Restaurant has over a hundred exotic choices to eat. In addition to Pad Thai, Panang and all of the standard Thai fare, Palms has exotic choices such as wild boar, fried catfish, papaya pok pok, etc. The menu is huge, so you will definitely find something you want. It's great for parties, too, since Thai Elvis sings there!

Yummy thai food

It's not the most consistent of places for the service, but we've had always had good luck with the food here. The menu is big enough that most diners would be proud, so there should be something for just about anyone. :-)

The place is Really Big and a bit loud when it's full, but our Saturday lunches have been good.

On weekend nights they have a Thai Elvis, but we've never been there at the right time. The metal/chain Elvis statue they have is really cool though. :-)

How can you not love a thai restaurant that serves...

How can you not love a thai restaurant that serves beer stays open till the wee hours of the night has a chainmail elvis statue and last but definitely not least serves reeeeeally good foodIve only been here a handful of times most of those times after a long night of drinking so while I always thought the food was great I was never sure if it was truly delicious or just the alcohol talking. But the last time I went sober and ready to eat. We ordered 5 dishes between 2 people and every dish was absolutely delicious. This place has hands down the best pad thai Ive ever had. Pad Thai can taste overly sweet or peanutty or a slew of other overpowering flavors but Palms does it right and puts just the right combination. Their duck curry is very good slightly sweet because of the pineapple they add. But like I said everything I ever ordered was good. Which is definitely a first for me usually there are certain dishes you can order and certain ones you should stay away from.Just one warning though if youre not a hard-core spice fanatic order things mild. We got the pad kee mao medium and it was too spicy for all of us. I love spice but cant handle too much of it so mild was perfect for me.Anyway dont worry and try something new here. Youll probably like it. And if you want to have a laugh and some ambience with your meal come here in the evening for the Thai Elvis performance. You wont regret it.

Godawful

Truly horrible food -- disintegrating shrimp in the TomYum, chicken that could have been any other meat under the sun, ghastly in all ways. I actually liked the service -- there was a very sweet person who took our order. But I'll never go near this place again. Try Pink Pepper on LaBrea -- that's real Thai and only a mile or two away.

Pros
+ big room and quirky charms

Cons
- horrible food

The worst Thai food in Los Angeles

This food is really bad. Tasteless, bland, horrible. The service is even worse: rude, slow, and dumb. Never go here. There are so many better places.

Pros
+ None

Cons
- Everything

Great Thai food and a fun time out!

I've been here several times and their Pad Thai is still my favorite in the area. Their lunch specials are so inexpensive and very filling. Also, at night, their entertaining "Thai Elvis" is wonderful. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a nice staff, nice environment (quiet in the day, fun at night), and great food for not that much money.

Pros
+ food and entertainment

Cons
- the valet (but its worth it)

Bland food, pay to park, cheap and should be, found hair in food,,,,,,bad experience

my wife and i love Thai food and while passing Palm Thai we noticed a big room with a large crowd eating so we pulled in, As we entered the parking garage the only place to park) we were stopped by the valet who informed us that we have to leave our keys so we couldnt take off without paying, I wish we would have declined and left at that point, They were pretty rude too, We walked into a large loud festive room with a guy singing and playing guitar,,,,seemed ok, Our waitress arrived quickly and we ordered drinks and she asked if we were ready to order (a little pushy for me) we did order appetizers which arrived very quickly. My wife noticed a long black hair (not her color) they were appologetic and said they would give another. Meanwhile we ordered our dinner. Before i didnt finish half a drink of beer and out come the meals,,,,prob less than 10 min obviously pre cooked and we were still waiting for our hairless appetizers to arrive. My wifes crab legs were immitation. Overall the food was not bad but got worse the more you ate, The waitresses seemed hurried and talked on little earphone setups to be more efficient i guess...the place was as romantic a mc donalds. We will NEVER eat at what I call McThai again. PS; they never even offered to comp the hairy appetizer and by then i didnt care anymore, There are many Thai places to eat in Hollywood, dont waste you time eating at this one.....this is the worst Thia ive had in Hollywood. I strogly believe that most of the reviews are writin by ownership of this restaurant....

Pros
+ The beer was good, large menu, cheap

Cons
- parking rip off, hair in food, food was not that good, i believe the good reviews were writin by owners

Cheap Food and Entertainment

We were in the mood for thai food and found this spot on Sunset. The food was great and cheap and the Thai Elvis was hiarious. You can take a group of friends and just hang out and get some laughs. The place is decorated nice and they have long tables for groups. No need to make a reservation.

Pros
+ parking structure, atmosphere

Cons
- service

Great food for price, slow service

Food is great for the price. I love their more exotic menu (frog legs, wild boar), and the garnishes were very fresh. Place is a little large and loud, and tables are cafeteria-style, good for big groups, but not at all for intimate dates. Unfortunately, my food came way before my companion's, and I waited at least 10 minutes with my food cooling waiting for hers to arrive. Not only that, but my side of plain rice arrived five minutes before my entree! What am I supposed to do with that? Came on a night when the karaoke guy wasn't around, but I can assume it's pretty fun.

Pros
+ Great food, variety

Cons
- Slow service, loud and cafeteria tables

Really great Thai food at excellent price

Went here last night to introduce my boyfriend to Thai food, which he claimed he "thought" he didn't like. Well was he wrong. He loved it. We got there (no reservations) and only had to wait liek 5 minutes to be seated at aroudn 8:30pm Friday night. We sat at the bar and had a Singha and a Thai Iced Tea ($6 for both).

Ordered Chicken Pad Thai, Beef Pad See Ew and Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken. All were really good, our favorite being the Chicen Pad Thai. The portions were great, those 3 dishes were way too much food for us, we easily could've shared with another 2 people. The meal came to $21 for those 3 dishes (tax inlcuded). So not bad at all.

The Space is very nice, really open and bright, the only thing is it is a bit loud because the room is so big and there are no partitions or anything to break up the sound. But the "Thai Elvis" performed and he was good and funny. Sorta like listening to karaoke while you eat. :-D The service was very fast too. Food prob only took another 5-10 minutes after we ordered it to come out.

Would HIGHLY recommend, its very easy to get to. We were comign from Burbank, took like 10 minutes to get there, its RIGHT off the 101 once you get onto Hollywood Blvd. There is plenty of street parking nearby on the neighborhood streets, took us prob 5 minutes to find a space about a block and a half away. Definitly no need to valet.

Pros
+ Food, Location, Price, Cheap Eats

Best Thai in LA!

I've been going to Palms for the past couple of years however it took years of mediocre Thai restaurants to find. The Pad See Ew is one of the best I have ever had as is the fried rice ( I like the combo). It does get crowded but don't let that deter you because the food comes out quickly. My meals have been rather consistent. Some of my favorite dishes are the BBQ pork, BBQ beef with garlic and lime, and their sticky rice is to die for! If the food alone doesn't get you, Thai Elvis will. He is actually quite good and if you are even luckier, the bartender will sing a few songs (he is a great impersonator!) I agree with others that the valet is quite sketchy and I feel at times that they take my car around the curves too quickly and are reckless in parking the cars.

Pros
+ great food, low prices, Thai Elvis

Cons
- sketchy valet

WATCH OUT!!!

I went to Palms Thai on Friday night and found the food to be OK. We ordered two dishes -- the Pad Thai was fine but the in other stir-fry noodle dish had a vegetable that was not cleaned properly (it tasted like dirt/sand)

BE VERY CAREFUL about the valet. I walked around Hollywood for a couple of hours after eating leaving my car parked at Palms Thai. When I came back, both valets informed me that I was not allowed to leave my car there after eating. They told me unless I paid them off, that they wouldn't release my car and would have it towed. They extorted $40 from me to get my car back. STAY AWAY!!!

Pros
+ Pad Thai was okay

Cons
- Everything else including the shady valet parking service

Very impressed.

I came here to eat with a couple of girlfriends, one who is Thai. She was so very impressed with the authenticity of the food, as was I. We ordered quite a few dishes, and they were prepared very well, and served similarly to the way they would be served in Thailand (or so I was told). Even the Thai iced-tea had a distinctly better taste to it than most that I have had. Our servers were very friendly and even gave us directions to some of the best Thai dessert houses which were just down the road. The only thing I regret is that we were not there when the Thai Elvis performed, and our valet parking attendant left an alcohol-like smell in our car. Small details :)

Palms Thai

A dozen wooden Siamese cats peer down at you from along the ceiling while waiters with headsets scurry between tables refilling water glasses and barking commands into their mouthpieces like some sort of restaurant Secret Service. The noise, the crowded tables, the Singha malt liquor going to your head and now, on stage, Thai Elvis is giving you "Fever". True, Palms Thai is no place to go for a quiet meal, but if you're looking for fast, reliable and inexpensive, it's hard to beat. While I've never tried the frogs legs or boar curry, just a couple of the more exotic delicacies they offer, I'm a huge fan of their pad kee mao, the wide, pan-fried rice noodles, served with either chicken or shrimp. Deep-fried trout with cashews and mango sauce is nice too, though I thought the fish was perhaps a bit dry under its flaky, golden crust. With a spicy bowl of tom yum gai to start (the lemongrass, chili and kaffir lime leaf-scented chicken soup with fresh straw mushrooms that Buds and I both love), we were all set to sit back and enjoy Kevin belt out one hit tune after the other. With special thanks to Miss Peggy Lee, what a lovely way to burn indeed.

Besides the great value and unbelievable Phad Thai the service is top-notch. Ask for Wandee. She works on Sundays and her great smile and charm never disappoints! Enjoy!

Pros
