Just order the carnitas and scratch margarita

Stick to the basics, crunchy chicken tacos, margaritas, carnitas. Occasionally the tostada works too.

Pros
+ Tallest glass of wine in town.

Cons
- They don't drive you home.

Everything I expected and more

Incredible service and the food was outstanding. Next time I visit LA I'm booking a hotel as close as possible. Make sure El Coyote is on your list, you won't regret it.

Pros
+ Everything, my list is too long.

Cons
- None, if there's a line it's worth the wait.

Just good food, screw those with agendas

No "AGENDA" here, just good solid Mexican food and Margaritas. Plan on taking the office here for the food. Wait staff is excellent, courteous, and well mannered. All other bad comments about this restaurant are agenda driven, this place is just down right good. We'll be back! If you don't belive it, try it yourself and you will see that they are being casticized by others for no reason. Good food. Thanks for the hospitality!!!

Pros
+ Good location, couteous ownership

Cons
- Maybe parking, but hey, where is that not a problem?

Bad food, weak drinks, slovenly staff

Margaritas are small and weak. Food looks and tastes like plastic. Wait staff seems dirty. Prices expensive compared to what's offered. We're not going back.

Pros
+ Location

Cons
- parking, food, drinks, staff

Worst Mexican Food in L.A. by Marvin D. at InsiderPages

I had been told El Coyote was a landmark not to be missed. My wife and I eagerly drove down Beverly to be ushered into (unwanted) valet parking. The decor was appalling but we thought maybe the food made up for it. We were shocked that what we were served is considered good Mexican food. It was some of the most dreadful, canned, greasy slop I have every been served. With so many rich, abundant resources available in a place like L.A. why would they resort to using canned peas in their food? Plus, we found we had to share our booth with a cockroach who crawled across the wall above our table. Top that off with rude service, plus the fact we both had to run to the bathroom at 2:00 in the morning to puke everything up, we saw little to recommend to anyone.

[sounds of a family drooling...] by Carol M. at InsiderPages

We go to El Coyote Cafe several times a year, and have never been
disappointed. I order the same thing every time - Chiles Rellenos
from PARADISE! My family members each order something different each visit, and have never been disappointed. Recently,
we tried the Mexican Pizza, which was flavorful and a lot of fun -
why did we wait so long?? The staff is pleasant and welcoming,
the facility is very clean, and we are not made to feel rushed -
thank you all!

THE CHILES RELLENOS ARE MADE IN HEAVEN!

This a very nice place that we visit several times a year. The Chiles Rellenos are SUPERB! Recently, I
tried the highly-publicized Mexican Pizza for the first time, and it was a real surprise - flavorful and fun.
The staff is warm and welcoming, and work hard at not making me feel rushed - I appreciate this very
much. The Cafe is a lot cleaner than many places that I would put in the same category, and this I
REALLY appreciate. I think you'll enjoy a visit there - give it a couple of tries and see if you agree.

Have you tried the Spanish Omlette Yet?

For decades, beginning with an uncle, our family has patronized El Coyote without disappointment. When our now grown children are in town visiting, a must do is always a return to this favorite spot. We have celebrated many happy occasions in this informal and friendly atmosphere. While we each have our standard favorites, my husband adores the beef enchaladas and uses them as his benchmark when sampling others. Nothing quite compares in his book. Through the years my personal favorite is the puffy Spanish omlette filled with quality sharp cheddar - its a treat that I have not found anywhere else. We live a good hour away and still get 'our fix' many times a year.

So sad to let go...

After patronizing El Coyote for almost 22 years now, my last meal was the day before Halloween, due to their policies (and I'm straight) I unfortunately will not be dining there anymore. That being said, the margaritas are very good, but ask for a "scratch" or you will get a drink scooped out of a giant (yet cleaned) trash bin behind the bar. The food has much improved over the last ten years, especially the hard shell tacos. The beans are also very good. Adios El Coyote, hello El Compandre, you'll be missed...

Not Yielding to Bullies

We will not yield to the hate-filled, narcissitic, child-like mob that tries to boycott businesses for their politics. The actions of the mob speak volumes to their immaturity.. I will patronize El Coyote and encourage others to do so as well.

Taking a moral stand, but miss the margaritas.

I love the restaurant for its margaritas and ambiance, but the protesters gave me pause the other night. My family and I voted no on prop 8 and I was unaware the restaurant had owners, or family members of owners, supporting yes on prop 8. So, my wife and I went somewhere else. We love this country and respect the democratic process. But, we also respect the right to free speech. Yes on 8 people had the right to vote and no on 8 people have the right to speak publicly. While our $100 dinner tab probably won't be missed much, my wife and I felt good for taking a moral stand and not patronizing a business like El Coyote.

Great Mexican Food!

Great food and great service! Some of the best Mexican food I've had in LA!! For some reason there were a lot of angry people outside because someone here gave $100 to the proposition 8 campaign. I don't know, but it seems awfully "intolerant" to me.

I thought this was a restaurant review website...

Below Average

While the atmosphere is fun, I have to say my experience with the food is disappointing. Too bad because it seems like it could be a fun place to hang otherwise.

Friendly despite the crazies outside

I made itt a point to visit a resturant that may have it harder to survive inthis recession. The food was surprisingly good and the service was friendly and attentive. The tolerent love filled no on hate supporterwere too cowardly to look me in the eye. I guess their hate for anyone not like thme clouded their sight. Please support, visit and enjoy the food.

Pros
+ Service and attentiveness

Cons
- Morons outside

Not the forum for polictical views!

Mdstyh1, I was shocked at you review. This is not the place for political views. It is scary to see the Prop 8 bashers use these tactics. Similar to the boycott of the Germans against the in the 1930s. Gayys seem to be demanding respect and rights, but not affording either to those that disagree with them.
