DO NOT USE THIS THRIFTY LOCATION! They only have 1 shuttle running and you might end up waiting 30+ minutes like we did. You will have the time to watch the competitors shuttles pass by three or four times. The location is really hard to get to and not proximal to the airport. There were only four people in line in front of us (with three clerks working) and it took well over an hour to rent a car. The competitors are close to the same price so don't use Thrifty.

Horrible customer service. Line took about 50 minutes. Customer service reps, do not speak English, and very disrespectfull. They do not tell about important information when you make reservation. I would never ever ever use them again.

I had a good exp with thrifty in vegas , so thought to try it out this time too..but san diego thrifty can be well avoided. They are unproffesional, long lines, the attendants are slow, half of them are not in their places..took us over an hr just to get our car. The return is also not well marked , the area is congested .Good things ..a few dollars cheaper, cars are in good condn, they did go out of the way to return some belonging I had left in the car and delivered it at the airport.

update

just letting everyone know the latest! I called Matt the day that the car was to be returned. After placing me on hold, he informed me that the car HAD been returned earlier that day, but they were unable to locate it. Reason being- it had been put up for auction(sale) and was not on the premises. Wow-what an amazing bullsh*tterthe case has since then been reported to the Better Business Bureau of California where it is pending review....

Don't expect the BBB to help you they are definatly PRO-Business and anything but impartial.Your GPS is probably gone forever and as you suspect it is next to impossible for the valets who clean the car to not see it. However, without proof no company is going to take responsibility if you claim that something is missing without proof. This may or may not help and it may be too late but you should report it as a theft to the San Diego Police Department. They should at least take a report and may question the people there. The other thing to do is check out Craigs List and EBay because it is quite possible that the "thief" would post it for sale(after all there are a lot of dumb criminals). You may get lucky and find someone in San Diego selling a Tom-Tom with just the things you left in the car.

Even though I have exhausted every available avenu...

Even though I have exhausted every available avenue, I still have not resolved this issue. I am angry and very frustrated at the way I have been treated over this incident. I have tried my best to explain in detail what has happened. On Sept 5,08 I returned a rental car to the Thrifty San Diego Airport location. In my hurry, I forgot my TomTom gps stuck to the windshield. As soon as I landed(around 10pm) I began calling this locations local number....no answer(even though they don't close until midnight)
The next morning I was finally able to get through, and I explained to the rep answering the phone that I had left the gps in the car, and he prompty informed me that the lost and found dept was closed and NOBODY there had the key-i would have to wait until monday. At this point I asked to speak to a manager, and he put me on hold. He then came back on the phone and told me that the manager was checking the lost and found for my item, and he would be with me shortly.(what happened to it being closed? locked with no key on premises etc?)
The manager then came on the phone and told me that there was no gps item there. So i suggested than since Thrifty also rents out gps units of their own, maybe the person cleaning the car accidentally placed mine with those, and that could he possibly try checking there? The manager(his name is MATT) then told me he had already checked with their gps units as well, and that it wasnt there. My response to Matt, was this "How is it you've checked for my gps, when up to now none of you have asked me to describe it, or what brand it is? How do you know what you're looking for?" His reponse was "You said it was a tomtom." The funny thing is, I deliberately made sure I did NOT say what brand it was, yet they knew before I told them.(i am absolutely sure about this)
Matt then told me that since my item was nowhere to be found, it must still be in the car. He then informed me that the car had already been rented out.of course. Matt has since then informed that he left a message on that customers phone explaining the prob. I asked him specifically what he said on that message and he informed me that he said "the previous customer left their gps stuck to the windshield". Basically telling them "free gps!"
I called back a few minutes ago and Matt told me hopefully they dont help themselves to it.(my opinion is he is setting the stage for their explanation when they don't "find" itThese are my concerns surrounding this incident.
1. When i returned my car friday evening, there were about 15 other cars in line waiting to be serviced...how is it that my car got rented out that same night?
2.My gps unit was stuck to the windshield and plugged into the car charger. I also had a hotel placard hanging from the center mirror. When the attendant removed that placard how could they not see the gps right there? Also when they removed the cups from the cupholder they didnt see something plugged into the charger, and wired all the way up to the windshield? Thats pretty impossible
3.Also, since thrifty also rents out gps units of their own, I'm sure customers forget to bring them back inside all the time, so they MUST be used to finding them and taking them out. Thrifty surely isnt going to allow something that generates profit to be left in a vehicle for free. So if they can see their own units, why is mine so hard to spot?
4. How is it that they knew what brand my Gps was before I told them?I have tried the customer service department. Many times. They keep telling me the same thing. All they can do is contact the location on my behalf and leave a message to check for it. I've also done that. Many times. I even had customer service email them. The problem is accountability. The employees at this location keep insulting me by lying and giving me ridiculous explanations that I refuse to accept. This is NOT a lost item. I know exactly where I left it...in a very conspicious place. Somebody had to find it. It was not missed, looked over, etc, and it did not get rented out still on the windshield. As of right now, Thrifty continues to stick to the claim that it must have been sent right back out in the rental car-so now we are all waiting on that car to come back in/or for the customer to call.(fat chance, as we all know that someone in thrifty has sticky fingers)When I get a resolution, I will post an update>................Laurelle
