I could not find a "pre-made" wedding dress that totally rocked my world no matter how much I searched. I had found an evening gown that I LOVED but which only came in black. I got a recommendation to go to Margene's and they said they could re-create the black gown in white. I bought the fabric and details and they made me a gorgeous dress that I LOVE for the same amount of money that it would have cost for me to get the only other wedding dress that I was sort of considering buying. They were very helpful while I tried on dress after dress, and cried through alterations. And they have a good amount of plus size gowns to try on, particularly when considering the small size of the store. I walked in expecting to find nothing, but I actually had a bunch of gowns to try. In the end I decided that I wanted something less traditional. I ordered a bridesmaid dress in ivory, had it altered, hemmed, added a red petticoat, tried this and that, and they were enthusiastic throughout the whole process. The dress was very affordable, though admittedly the cost of the alterations was quite high. Worth it though, as my dress came in 10 days before the wedding, and there was quite a lot of altering to be done. I was not crazy about the quality of one of the alterations, but it was my own fault that I didn't really have enough time to have them keep working on it. Given more time, I am certain that they would have worked on it until I was satisfied. On the day of the wedding, I found spots on the dress. Not sure if they were my fault or the store's. We called in the morning, and they told us to bring the dress right over. My husband drove it over and was back pretty quickly with a spotless dress. Margene quoted me $120 for what I wanted. She said to come in a month before the wedding. So when I came in a month before the wedding I was shocked that the bill came to $330! I told her I purposely came in 4 months before to get an estimate and showed her the estimate that she quoted me. She told me that she didn't know how extensive the hem would be. I was very annoyed since she originally quoted me $120 and I was very upfront with what I wanted done. I felt like it was too late for me to go to any other alteration place since it was a month before the wedding so I was stuck using her. The outcome of the dress came out fine. Although there were things I wanted done and she would say that my dress wasn't perfect to begin with so that's why it turned out the way it turned out. I didn't think that was a thing to say to a bride but they ended up fixing it.
