Tasty dinner

I can completely understand the reviews who complain about the slow service. It seems like it'd be more of an in and out in a hurry place, but it's not - so plan accordingly. How can it take 5-10 minutes to pour beer in a glass?

The service has been slow but friendly on all our visits, so we've taken our time and enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Ooh - the food. It's been delicious every time! The prices are very reasonable so 5 stars.

I agree, it's dependably good. I recently went there with a friend who's on a pretty strict diet and she was tickled pink to be able to order a plate of quinoa, steamed spinach and scrambled eggs, with a side of salsa. They have a great selection of organic teas, too.

Tasty!

Cheebo has a dependable menu. They routinely change the content, but they always have a fresh vegan soup, a fish of the day, roast meat of the day and a wide choice of pasta, salads, fish and burgers. They have great Cuban-style pressed sandwiches and homemade chips. Save room for dessert, especialy tiramisu. Parking is problematic depending on the time of the day; the best bet is street parking. The tables are a little tight so be prepared to be next to a neighbor.

Wood Fire Pizza, Hot Hot Hot Servers

Uh. Yum. The entire place is 360 degrees of yum. If you're cute you probably already know about Cheebo, you probably already hang out there twice a week. I think it has something to do with the orange and yellow building; cute people are attracted to it. Head first. The waitstaff here is hot, hot, hot. I think you have to be a model to serve people pizza and pasta in this joint; they're all mostly friendly, happy to see you, happy to get you drunk. I recommend the pepperoni pizza. Cheebo pizza's come on a slab, they make it in a wood fire oven, and you want to eat it up as fast a possible. They've got a good wine list. My friends like their salads. There's funky artwork on the wall. And the staff is hot. Are you getting this? For good eatin' and good lookin'--go to Cheebo.

Pros

They even had homemade potato chips from me im gluten intolerant. The waitress was a bit slammed but other than that it was a pleasant experience.

Cheebo's...In honor of our current sky

The sky still has it's fresh layer of orange thanks to the fires that have crisped the south land. All that orange has reminded me of our very own Cheebo restaurant here in Hollywood. If you've ever been patrolling down Sunset you'll know that is quickly one of the most memorable places on the strip thanks to it's orange artsy exterior. Inside your eyes are treated to pop art laden walls while your butts are treated to "getting-to- know-all-about-your-nearest-neighbor" seating. And though the seating is sometimes tight it's always been a friendly...

There oughta be a law against lousy restaurants like this!

What bland food, pathetic portions, and mediocre service. Who's running this place? It must be a front for some other type of undercover operation--maybe UFO work or something. I swear, our waitress was spacey as a drunken loon. I complained about the taste of my salad, but the waitress was so detached and apathetic about it when she asked if I wanted to talk to the manager, I told her not to bother. I felt sorry for her. I feel sorry for Cheebo, er, uh, make that "Cheap-o." No, wait, actually, I don't feel sorry for Cheap-o. I hate it when I pay my hard earned money for mediocre food and service. You want a good meal in this neighborhood? Try the Indian place down the street, or, you could get better salads at McDonald's. I kid you not!!!

Pros
+ Lesson learned!

Cons
- Wasted my money!

Go to Pizza Mozza instead!

The service at Cheebo was a nightmare from the minute we walked in until when we left. I nearly walked out when we got there, but we were going to the theater and were on a time crunch, so we stayed. Bad mistake. The pizza was good, but you can find better pizza, salad and appetizers at Pizza Mozza. Plus, at Pizza Mozza, they actually care about the service! Cheebo burned the chocolate souffle that one review had raved about, so it tasted burnt and the "molten" center was all cooked. There was no wait when we got there, and now I know why. Everyone had already heard about what horrible service Cheebo has... There were 5 staff standing around the entrance when we left -- and not one moved to say thank you or good night. Stay away from this place!

Pros
+ Good pizza

Cons
- The service was the worst I've experienced in a long time!

Wow, they're losing what they once had

This place used to be one of my favorites for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Fresh, great selection, just an awesome place. Then I went there for breakfast the other day and was just really disappointed. The majority of the egg dishes say "your choice of filling." Except there is no listing anywhere for what those fillings are. When I asked the waiter if he had a list, he said no, and then proceeded to rattle off 10 or 15 fillings you could choose from. Come on, people. If you're going to offer a wide selection - which is a GREAT thing - then list what you have to choose from. This is the kind of cooler-than-thou institutional attitude that makes a great place a LOSER place. If you offer many ways to have breakfast then don't make it some kind of in-the-know thing of what the hell kind of breakfast you can get. Stop trying to be so freaking cool. You're not.

Add to that the fact that when I asked a waiter if they had anything to balance my wobbly table he sort of moved in an inch or so for me to an equally wobbly spot, and only came over once I got down on the ground myself to try and shove some sugar packets under it. He kind of stood there and watched me do it. Totally unhelpful.

I'm sure these could be seen as minor gripes, but I'm seeing it as indicative of where it's going. I've seen it many times in LA, and Cheebo had best right the ship and get themselves back on track with the kind of place they used to be or this place has a real chance of just sinking. And I hope they do, cause it used to be a solid, solid restaurant.

"Cheapo" Portions at Cheebo

Two of us ordered spinach salads today, and we were very surprised at how small they were and how little there was in the salads except spinach. There was hardly any taste to the dressing--I could have done better at home myself, and I'm not all that great of a cook. And for an entree sized salad, at least that's what I understood it to be, it was really, really small. Our portions were really dinner sized, in my opinion, and not at all worthy of the $13 or $14 cost. I've had a few "so so" meals at Cheebo, and this one was the most forgetable and most mediocre. There are better places to eat for the same money.

Pros
+ Colorful decor

Cons
- Colorless cuisine

Avoid At All Costs

Cheebo is disgusting! I went there on a recommendation from a friend. I ordered the cheebo chop salad. I ate half of the salad when, to my horror, I discovered some curly hairs in my salad! The manager gave me some flimsy excuse and gave me the meal for free. However, I had lost my appetite. I wouldn't eat there again if my life depended on it.

Pros
+ doors are easy for escape

Cons
- terrible service, food

Pricey and Lethargic Waitress

I was pretty excited to go to this restaurant based on a review I had read over a year before. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre, and the service was lethargic. My party ordered a variety of dishes - smoked salmon pizza, cheebread, soup, and a few sandwhiches. Nothing was sorely disappointing, but nothing stood out, either. It was the type of meal that will be forgotten within the month. In fact, I think I've had more satisfying meals at Pizza Hut. But this was not the most disappointing part - service from our waitress was almost nonexistent. The supporting waitstaff/busboys were fantastic - they refilled our water, cleared plates, etc., but our waitress was just awful. She took about 15 minutes to acknowledge our table when we arrived and then another 20 minutes to take our order - she never even passed by our table in between for us to flag her down. Then, as she took our order she was of no help - my friend asked her about the soup size - whether she thought it could be a full meal or more of an appetizer. Her response? "It's soup." She was such a deadbeat - very lethargic. There is nonintrusive service and then there is service where you feel like you are a bother to ask for anything. We received the latter. After we finally received our food (another 25 minutes - and note that there were two other couples in the whole restaurant), she never came back to check on us once. In fact, we never saw her again until she brought us the bill.

Pros
+ Atmosphere was nice - the music and lighting were very calming

Cons
- Disappointing service and mediocre food

Blech....Avoid!

While I give Cheebo props for its inspired, offbeat (and orange) decor, not much else was worth revisiting here. They severly undercooked one friend's meal, which messed things up a bit. Also, when I went to use the restroom (which is right next to the kitchen) I saw two employees scarfing food, one from a takeout box, the other from what appeared to be a serving plate. Hurl. It made me nauseous. And jealous (Imagine that combo) b/c I hadn't eaten yet. When the food did come, everyone thought it was just okay and my steak and mash was lukewarm. Blech.

To be fair, the waitress was competent and charming. And I didn't try the Italian offerings... Nonetheless, not going back if I can help it.

Pros
+ Decor

Cons
- Sanitation, Meat dishes, etc.
