Delicious, simple food; Trendy; great ambience!

This was our first time at Elsa's and we fell in love with the first glimpse of the restaurant. It is beautifully decorated, very trendy, and the crowd was a classy mix. We had a fairly big group of 10, and walked in at 12:50am. They courteously allowed us time to get our order together, since last call for food is 1am. Most of us ordered burgers, and I have to say, it was the best burger patty! The appetizer wing platter was delicious, but skip the "asian" flavored wing. I had a French Martini from the bar, and it was probably the best one aside from a bar I had it from in Miami.
Overall, it was a great place for a group of friends to meet up for a good time, good drinks and delicious, simple food. Whenever we're in Milwaukee again, we will definitely be back!

Pros
+ Delicious burgers, great bar service

Cons
- Servers could be nicer

Love this place. The model of real ethnic diversity. My faves are the nachos dripping with cheese, and the chicken dragon wings. Karl Kopp is the model of a hardworking manager.(He did not pay me to say this!) His periodic decor/art changes are always worth waiting for. You can find a Milwaukee Bucks player there or even Barry Manilow!

This USED TO be a great place...I have been coming...

This USED TO be a great place...I have been coming for over 20 years and have never had a complaint until recently... at a lunch 3 weeks ago the server told us after 45 minutes that the kitchen wouldn't prepare the menu items she took the order for 45 minutes earlier. Tonight, I had the manager argue with me that 45 minutes was an acceptable wait for an appetizer when the restaurant was one-third full and that 1.5 hours was appropriate to wait for a burger! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PLACE??? It USED TO be so good!!!

Elsa's a FLOP

Up for a great burger, a good red wine and people watching, Elsa's was the logical choice last night, a Saturday. What a mistake! The youngish, all white, male staff bossed around patrons as they looked past a party of 6 African American women who had been there since 5pm (It was 6:30). They took other's names, finally sat us (and that party of 6)only when we reminded the stern-faced men.

Once seated, we wanted a nice red wine to go with the burgers. The prices were insane: $25 for a HALF bottle of Iron Horse, $100 for a bottle of nothing special, $11 for a 6 oz pour (THEY MEASURE).

Eleven dollars for a glass of wine to compliment an $8 burger??? Our waiter (another flustered, crabby white guy) had at least 3 other busy tables that he was trying to cash out and turn over as fast as possible.

As the noice level increased, the smell of greasey food and bar smoke dulled our appetites. Then it occured to us! We didn't have to take abuse from our restaurant! We had a choice! WE WALKED OUT.

After waiting for 50 minutes for a table and then another 10 minutes for water, we left and drove straight to THE KNICK where there was an attentive waiter, good wine, fresh salads and a melt-in-your-mouth burger stuffed with gorgonzola cheese. Now calmer and full, we made a clear decision not to go back to Elsa's on the Park.

Rather, next time we crave that special kind of Milwaukee delicacy, we will buy our Karl Kopps burgers AT KOPPS ($2.80), bring a great red wine and picinic to the lake front--far away from the angry white men.

--The reviewer is a 40ish, married woman with kids, who now lives in Mequon after grad school in Colorado. She lived in Wauwatosa and grew up walking to the original Kopps near 60th and Center.

Pros
+ The UN of locations. All races mix well here.

Cons
- Rude staff, greasey food, expensive drinks, no parking.

A Class Act! Great food.

I left Milwaukee in 1999 and have lived in Atlanta and now Nashville. I have yet to find my favorite spot, one that would live up to Elsa's. My friends and I called Elsa's "our office". I miss it. Great food, the people...such beautiful people and such elegance. I can't wait to get back to Milwaukee on a visit so that I can enjoy my favorite burger...Burger Alfredo. To die for...If you want a classy night out and great food, Elsa's On The Park is THE PLACE. Supasses the hot spots in Miami, LA and Vegas any day.

Pros
+ food, people watching, the staff

Cons
- parking is difficult

Very downtown trendy atomsphere with soso Cosmopol...

Very downtown trendy atomsphere with soso Cosmopolitans. I had a burger since that's what everyone says the rage is. It was a type of "peppercorn/au poivre" burger that was far too overboard to eat more than 4 bites without feeling like my mouth was burning up. The meat was good if the seasoning could just have been more controlled or more care on the cracking, etc. But looking around I had the feeling that there was less meat being served at the tables than was standing around the bar or studying the female customers from AT the tables. Good "meeting" place for the IN crowd.

Trendy-If you like Rude Service and Snooty Patrons

I LOVE Elsa's...for the FOOD and I live downtown so I"m used to snooty patrons and the occasional rude service. Its the atmosphere I live in. So if you don't mind that sort of thing...its rather trendy and I great place to eat and socialize. It gets very crowded, very loud so it might not be the ideal place for a 'first' date, but just my opinion. You CANNOT make reservations, hardly ever any parking. They do have excellent burger, but there is also other options like the smoked salmon platter or chicken platter. The Golden Gate Cake (talk about decadence..uhhmmmm). Everyone should try Elsa's at least once, ok maybe a few times.

Pros
+ Golden Gate Cake!!!

Cons
- NO Parking and NO Reservations. Not the ideal place for large groups AT ALL

Always my choice in Milwaukee

I have driven up the 30 miles to downtown Milwaukee just to eat here and drive home. The pork chop sandwiches are the best. Ask for veggies and ranch instead of fries. They will be happy to do it for you. Wings are good as well. A lot of the people I go there with also get the peppercorn burger.

Food get's an A+ The chili is top notch but seasonal. Waitstaff is more than friendly, interior decoration is fantastic. The only downside is that some of the customers are pretty high strung.

Great atmosphere, great desserts!

Went to Elsa's late on Friday night. The restaurant was packed, but we were able to get seated immediately without reservations. The modern atmosphere appeared to attract a large crowd of people in their 20's and 30's. If you go to Elsa's, I would HIGHLY recommend that you try the Golden Gate Cake for dessert. It is fantastic!

Pros
+ Great atmosphere

Cons
- Bad parking, Small tables

Best burgers at a price

The price being your pride. If I get the rare good server I treat them well and tip high. If I get one with an attitude I give it right back. These are the best burgers in town. With the fries and a beer I feel guilty for a week (or until I put in an extra 30 minutes on the tread mill at the gym.) Try to sit in the front windows or along the walls. Avoid the bar or the central aisle -- too much traffic. They turn people away so get there just before 11:30am.

Pros
+ Best damn burger, Other stuff also good, SCOTCH!!!

Cons
- The service, Overcrowding, expensive for MKE

Best Burgers In Town

I am not one to try new burgers but I did when I went to Elsa's and I loved each and everyone that I have tried there!

Pros
+ unique, lively, one of a kind

Cons
- parking, loud

Darn Good Burger

Elsas has a great variety of gourmet hamburgers, my favorite carrying bacon, blue cheese, some rich dark sauce, and ground peppercorns. Sure I pay about ten bucks for it, but it's a full half pound of the best burger I can get in the city. It's got a pretty swanky interior, and it's right across from a nice park. You can wear jeans here. (psst. some of the patrons act stuffy)

Pros
+ food quality, atmosphere

Cons
- parking, can get crowded
