Then, if you are like me, you might compare and shop and learn more about air conditioners than you ever knew before. Comfort Design is a company that stood out from others. I now have a new AC system and could not praise the company high enough for their attention to detail, fair pricing and respect for the needs of each customer. Part of my decision in choosing CD was because they were registered contractors with both CPS Energy and RESNET and that the technicians are NATE certified. More importantly, in contrast to their competitors, Tom Damiani (owner) and his crew provided thoughtful & honest answers to all of my questions. Prior to being chosen for the job, they spent several hours inspecting the existing sytem and ductwork to ensure that the replacement system would be property sized and that air flow performance could be optimized. It has now been 3 months since my new hvac system has been installed and some of the damaged ductwork replaced. As was promised to me, the new system is more efficient and has improved the air quality and comfort in the home. Now, my energy bills are significantly lower and I received rebates for energy efficiency through CPS Energy (Tom completed all of the applications) and now have enough of a credit that I probably won't need to pay another energy bill for the next 12 months or so. My husband went outside and found that the compressor wasn't moving at all. This was around 6:30am. I knew I was going to have to stay home from work to have someone come service our A/C, so I looked online at the yellow pages website and found Comfort Design. They had some rave reviews and they have been around a long time. So, I called them immediately and an answering service took my information. They said they would call me back at 8am. I waited until 8:10, and then called them. I knew I had to get someone out immediately since it has been in the hundreds outside lately. They told me that it was going to cost $60.00 for them to come diagnose the issue. I scheduled an appointment and the lady said they would be out late morning to fix it. At 9:15, someone called and said they were 20 minutes away from being at my house! When they arrived, I told them the issues I was having of the compressor and the fact that 2 of the rooms didn't seem like they were getting enough air. They went outside to check the unit and said that the switch for the compressor was bad and had to be replaced. They also said that something else had to be replaced (not sure what the thing is called, but it is a small cylinder), but it was only mild issue. They told me that the particular part would be out soon since it has been so hot. I told him I am hoping that it lasts the summer so we can replace it in the fall or winter. I asked them how much it would cost with the diagnostic fee and they told me originally $248.00. To replace the other part would have been about the same amount and I didn't want to spend $500.00 today. Anyway, when I told him that 2 of the rooms were not getting enough air and that I heard a possible animal in the attic about 4 days ago, he got a ladder and went up in my attic. I asked him what it looked like up there since my husband and I have NEVER been up there the whole time we have lived in the house for 3 years. He said that the whole duct area would have to be replaced and gave me a quote of $3300.00 to $3800.00 to replace it all. He also mentioned that whoever converted the garage to our living room didn't put insulation up there and that is why the room is always hotter than it should be. I had a nice conversation with them and they gave me a detailed invoice with all the issues on it. The guy even took pictures on his camera of our attic and he took pictures of the attic with my camera so I can show my husband the bad job the previous owners did. They told me that they had payment plans for that type of work and also that they would come anytime to speak with me and my husband together to get more information on the work that has to now get done. They were out here until 10:45am helping me with my issue. Money well spent in my eyes! They were very friendly, professional and they knew what they were doing.
