Great pizza by Michelle C. at InsiderPages

Most of the food here is homemade and from organic products. I love that they offer not your average toppings (sun dried tomatoes, pesto, etc.) which make for a great meal!

I love visiting Tomato head. I have never had a bad meal there. The food is always exceptional and the staff friendly. Although they do get very busy it can be a wait to get in. The place is a bit small, but very much worth the wait.

Pizza & Southwest salad

OK, listen up everyone. If you have not tried the Tomato Head, you are missing out on some great food.
The pizza dough is light and ingredients are fresh and numerous and on the exotic side-try the goat cheese!
Also, the guys that fiz the pizzas get on the artistic kick and make some of the most beautiful pies.

Additionally, the Southwest chicken salad with black beans is awesome. I have them add red onions and the dressing is a kick!
If you are into beer, they have a nice selection of micros and imports! The price can get a little high, but for what you get it is worth it and DO NOT SKIMP ON THE TIPS BECAUSE THESE KIDS WORK HARD!!!20%

Fun and Simple

This little restaurant is a cute little spot on the middle of downtown Knoxville and it's great. On a cold day you can eat inside in the cozy atmosphere where you order at the front and they'll bring it to your table, but on a nice day you can sit outside and enjoy the really good food. For picky eaters they have the "norms" like cheese pizza, or a ham and cheese sandwich, but for those looking for a different taste they have tons of choices. They also have a lot of vegetarian friendly food. They show case different artists on the wall, so the place is always changing, and it is often kind of noisy because it is so close the campus, but it's not too bad (you can still have a normal conversation with out shouting). Overall, it is great food and is definitely an experience and I would recommend it to any visiting Knoxville! The also have a website if you want to check it out in a little more detail!

Pros
+ parking near by, great food, friendly staff, fun atmosphere

Cons
- Can get noisy and crowded.

Best Pizza in the Smokies!

This is one hopping pizza place!!! It was crowded, but I did not mind. The servers are very friendly and very helpful. We did not have too much time to wait, so we had a carry out and then ate it outside at one of the countless tables in the market square. Absolutely wonderful atmosphere to go with the very delicious, mouth-watering, finger licking good pizza!!!! Worth driving all the way into downtown Knoxville!! We plan on stopping there every time we pass through Knoxville on our way to the Southern US and back!

A reason to drive downtown!

Most Knoxvillians think of downtown as a place
to avoid, rather than a destination, what with the
poor parking, and the "local color" that can sometimes
be seen carted off in paddy wagons. Nonetheless,
Tomato Head is a reason to leave your Kingston Pike comfort zone, and venture into Market Square. The
decor is eclectic but pleasant. The signature pizzas are excellent -- go for the #3 (lamb sausage, capers and sundried tomatoes). It's vegetarian-friendly, yet also good for the carnivore. Ingredients are fresh. The staff are an excellent combination of friendly and bohemian. Here's one of the few places in town where you'll see ties and nose rings co-mingling happily.
Highly recommended!

Pros
+ Excellent pizza, Friendly staff, Pleasant atmosphere

Not bad

The sandwich I had was good. Wasn't too crazy about the soup. The 2 guys at the register were very friendly and accommodating to our veganism, though some of the other workers didn't seem so nice. But it doesn't really matter, since they weren't the ones you have to interact with!

I wish I'd tried the pizza, but if you look at a large, plain cheese, the plain cheese is $4 cheaper than the soy cheese. Jeez. I know vegan cheese is more expensive, but come on... They were also out of the vegan cookies when we were there :(

I'd probably visit there again. The vegan pesto on my sandwich was delicious and would likely be so on a pizza as well.

Excellent Veg and Vegan Choices

Located in downtown Knoxville on Market Square, The Tomato Head serves a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, pizzas, and daily specials -- all inventively designed with excellent ingredients. Many are Vegan or Vegetarian, but there is something for almost every taste.

The restaurant has become a fixture on Market Square; as a result, it is very popular and is often crowded, but it is a friendly crowd.

This place is awesome! We stumbled upon it while on vacation, and every member of our family was in pizza heaven. If I lived there, I'd be a regular...wish they had other locations around the country!!!

Great Food...Great Location

Located in Market Square this place is a favorite of mine for lazy Saturday and Sunday afternoons. (Weekday traffic makes it a little bothersome). I most often have the Vegan Sandwich with blue corn chips and a side of kalamata olives. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I shop at the Three Rivers Co-Op and they sell the Tomato Head Vegan Pesto & Hummus that they make there. Do not deny your self. Specials, Sandwiches, Starters, Soups, pizza Calzones...YUM!! They will work with you and if you are vegan, like me, they will help you make a good decision.

Sit outside, sit inside....Just sit down and eat! (Then get a Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie to go) YUM!!!

Great Place, Great Location, Great Food

Best veggie food I found in town. The location is downtown, not a far walk from UT. It is in a square where there was a play going on while we ate.

I had the Vegan sandwich and it was VeganYummy. The pizza also looks great. I also had a vegan soup that was great.

Every single time I've been there the food was to die for! They are very flexible with substitutions and will make any sandwich just the way you want it. Although the combinations aren't traditional, you'll love anything you try, even if you aren't a vegetarian!

Worth the trip

I live in West Knoxville, but venture down to Market Square often (and brave the lack of parking) just to visit Tomato Head. I've yet to try anything that I did not enjoy, and as a recent convert to vegetarianism, their menu is an absolute godsend. Even during special events such as Sundown in the City, or Movies on Market Square, when there was frequently a 45 minute wait for seating, service is still as quick as possible and the food, just as good as a slow Sunday afternoon. Although I have yet to try the pizzas, I can recommend many of the sandwiches and salads, but most of all the soups. Everything, down to the salad dressings is made from scratch and it shows. The hummus is excellent, quite possibly the best that I've found in Knoxville. Even though some of the menu items may sound a bit strange, try new things! I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
