Casino by norma L. at InsiderPages

The place is so smokey you are in a coughing fog, the machines are old and not very much fun. It was an old building but did not feel clean. I didn't see any security and I would never want to stay there.

Gold Spike will gone soon by charlie t. at InsiderPages

The Gold Spike is very old and cheap. The food was a good suprise as it is decent and in generous portions. The smoky casino is kind of nasty and you dont want to go outside after dark as there are all kinds of criminals and prostitues right outside the door. There was however good security there, and they did not let homeless people or bums inside the casino like some places do. The best thing about this place is that next year they are tearing it down and building twin 22 story towers in its place, with a walkway to connect them so you wont have to walk past pimps and bums to get to your car.

EEuuuccchhhhhhhh! by Everett P. at InsiderPages

This place is smokey and dirty. Our air conditioner did not work and our non smoking room was nasty. After getting a different room things were better but even for 30.00 a night it is not worth having to step over drunks and walk around prosstitutes to get to your car after dark. NO JOKE. I do have to say that the security was good, the food was decent and you cant beat the bargin. It was definately an experience!

Good deal Downtown

I found Gold Spike Hotel and Casino on Travelocity. First of all, if you are trying to find a place to impress your girlfriend (or boyfriend), this is not for you. But if you are like me and all you need is a comfortable and inexpensive place close by to rest after sightseeing whole day in Vegas, this is absolutely the best deal in town. Heck, it's even cheaper than the hostel. I only paid $19 plus tax per week night and it came with complimentary breakfast. For weekend it may be slightly more but wouldn't be much. Think of it as Motel 6 with a casino and you get the idea. The hotel is old but kept clean. According to other reviews I read, they also have suit (with kitchen) if you are interested. It's located only 1 block northeast of Fremont Street Experience. There are also a couple of drugstores (Walgreen?) within walking distance so it's a lot easier to shop the normal stuff (bottle water, newspaper, etc.) than on the Strip. From Gold Spike the bus stop to the Strip is only 1 block away, so transportation is not an issue. The front desk didn't ask me if I care for a smoke-free room, so I assume they allow guests to smoke in all their rooms. This is a common problem in most downtown hotels, which used to allow smoking anywhere. Even after converting some of their rooms to non-smoking, they can't completely get rid of the cigarette smell.

Downtown is a 2 block walk through the ghetto

I stayed at the Golden Spike one night. I had stayed in Vegas for a week at the Golden Nugget and Luxor. Our flight was delayed and I tried the Plaza, they were booked, but offered the Golden Spike (one of their sister proprities). Since money was tight, the price was right. However, the Spike is 2 blocks from Freemont...

It's really not as bad as everyone says

My friend and I had to find a hotel the very last minute and I happened to stumble upon this hotel on Expedia. The price was just right for an overnight stay. I read all the reviews here so I came here knowing that it may not be all that. So it wasn't. But surprisingly, it was pretty good too....

This place is foul! Absolutely the worst hotel and casino you can get in the area! Disgusting in every way. Crack heads, hookers, and people you don't want to meet are here. Loosers and users hang out here. I was terrified my car was going to get broken into. The casino is a dirty joke, I would never want to...

This is about as cheap of a room as your gonna find in Las Vegas. The Good- low rates, friendly staff, clean room, nothing fancy but at the price, I can not complain. Downstairs is a casino and a cafe, where you can get good food really cheap. This hotel is in the heart of the downtown Fremont Experience and...

Good hotel for the money...close to Freemont and the bus stop. Hotel was well lit on the inside. My non smoking room had no trace of smoke smell in it. The restaurant was great...closed a little early but that was okay. The front desk staff was friendly. My only complaint was that there were no aminities...such as extra toothbrushes, toothpaste...

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in

I am very suprised that Expedia list this hotel as it is appalling. I arrived at 6pm (check in was from 3pm) but was told my room was not ready. I asked if there was anywhere to leave my luggage while I went for a drink and waited, I was told there was no where. So I was left standing...

I had a GREAT time! You really can't complain for a room that costs 30 $ a night! Very friendly clerks and floor personal. I would recommend and stay here again. 1 $ shots and beers!! However, if you are going to Las Vegas to sit in your hotel room (losers) I do not recommend staying here...but if you are going to EXPERIENCE Vegas..well then! This is your place...go get drunk and go back and crash, get up and do it all over again :-D

Me and my friends had a blast! Awesome employees, cheap 1 $ shots and beers. Really close to Freemont St. Free parking! We didn't go to LV to sit in our room so while it wasn't like the hilton or whatever, who cares! Cheap price.. like 110 for 3 nights? I'd def. stay here again

Not great

It took 45 minutes of waiting in line before we checked in, there were 2 people ahead of us. The man at the desk was a little off, like he was hallucinating. Once we got to the elevator it took 10 minutes to get in it. The hallways were very dark and musty, not really dirty with trash everywhere, but...

The hotel is billed as Las Vegas as it used to be, with penny slots and video poker, 40¢ live keno, and $2 blackjack tables. Small, plain double rooms have twin beds, a nightstand, a TV, and a view of East Ogden Avenue. A suite...

Despite an updating (after a serious fire), the Gold Spike remains deliciously, or frighteningly (depending on your aesthetic views and desires) dated; it may no longer have that 70s-era shag carpeting and wood paneling, but it has the modern-day spiritual equivalent. Its still one of...

beware!. I am not kidding. there are homeless people off the streets living and playing at this hotel. The room is tattered and smells horrible. do more research on the web. just type in gold spike hotel on the web, and read what other people are saying about this place before booking. I should have done that before I committed to staying here.

For a cheap yet enjoyable rest, this is the place....

For a cheap yet enjoyable rest, this is the place. A rundown casino, yet only 1 block of Fremont street. The rooms are big and they even have suites. We enjoyed it as much as the time we spent at Boulder Station. There is something to the downtown life of Vegas that you can't find on the strip.
