I kept putting it off because of the price. And my stylist 23, I doubted he really could do what I needed. Which was to make sure non of my hair showed. i didn't want to put anymore chemicals in. And I wanted it not to look bulky. He totally followed through. He stood 8hours straight making sure it look fabo. You can tell he really cares about his clients happiness and the quaility of his work is top notch. As expensive as it was it was totally worth it. My stylist did amazing work. Im not sure how long I'll be able to see him. He's definetly going places. Anyway I left looking and feeling like a super star. Again, I gotta warn you the price is high. But I don't think it's just because it's on newburry street. It's because they seem to hire the best people. The atmosphere is clean, stylish, and cozy. They do keep you smiling while you're there. The name Salon red is actually kind of ironic..they are advertising what they work the worst with- RED.I came in with a light brown color in my hair that had a SLIGHT red under tone. I initially wanted her to just throw some highlights in to make my roots less noticable, for the most part, I liked it how it was. She obviously didnt, and instead decided she wanted to touch up my roots by matching the existing color all around, and throw foils in. She told me anything else would not look blended. It seemed sensible so i let her. However, the color that "matched my roots", in her eyes, happened to be a deep red with violet undertones with a dark dark brown base. It was disaster, and to top it off she put highlights in that were so light that they looked grey in contast to the rest of my hair. She also insisted, that this purple color, was my actual original hair color i came in with. To top it off, when leaving, might I add I was so distressed and upset about my hair i was crying, things got worse. Not only did the owner not see me crying during this entire 4 hour nightmare and say nothing, he felt the need to embarrass me as well. I was told that my bill was modest and that he would have charged me more because I mae her try to fix it three times. The atmosphere and the stylists were very friendly and it was a nice eclectic mix. I went for a cut but also ended up getting my hair flatironed. My stylist (Arthur) was very friendly and full of knowledge. We ran our mouths like old friends the whole time I was in his chair. While she got her hair done I was able to absorb everything and it was not good. Her hair was ok, but all she needed was a simple trim. The woman FELL asleep ( she was definately on something) in the middle of doing my eyebrows. She got wax in my hair. AND THEN she ruined my left eyebrow - 3/4 of it is gone and I have dark hair and dark eyebrows so it can't exactly be blended in. Also, because she kept piling on the wax, I have severe burns and swelling above my left eye. Granted, I didn't have to pay for this horrible "service," but I would have rather paid double then be left without an eyebrow. This is by no means an exageration. When I called to make an appointment for a practice hairdo I asked whether I should bring anything. They said no. When I arrived they asked whether I had brought any pictures of the hairdo I like. I had not because I did not know I should. I thought we would try out a few hairdos so I can decide which one I like best. This is the way it is done in Europe where I am from. However, they said they would only do one hairdo. They started, and then mid-way through told me they had unfortunately scheduled another customer so would I mind waiting a quarter hour while they cut another person's hair. Well, what could I do but say yes. The quarter hour turned out to be half an hour. The hairdo they did was nice but really nothing you'd expect for more than $100 (the practice was $70). Also, it started to dissolve as soon as I had left the store. Well, they said they'd do a better job on my wedding, but that is nothing I'd rely upon. Why didn't they do a great job for practice, too? After all, a wedding hairdo should hopefully last an entire day. And would they also schedule a hairdo in between doing my hair on the day of my wedding when I am in a rush? Needless to say, I never went back but had my sister do my hair. And she (who is not a hairdresser) did a MUCH better job than Salon Red & Spa. I walked in with fried, straggly looking long hair with no hope. When I left, my hair was finally looking natural and feeling healthy as ever (not to mention my hollywood hairstyle&cut.. love it!). After a special concoction she mixed up for a deep treatment, my hair felt so soft and shiny I almost cried!!!
