Moderately tougher than replacing a lightbulb, I guess, but definitely easier than hard-wiring something. So, $30 part, maybe a half hour of travel each way to my house, half an hour to replace the part...pretty good hourly rate if you ask me. I wouldn't call these people again if my life depended on it. (I can't even quote #2, without causing the system to censor me) So, I won't. I was, however, told that I needed to repipe my gas lines for $7000, because of gas leaks after the 5.4 Chino Hills earthquake. Either that or start an open-ended search for the leak that would start at $1000 and work its way up from there, then cause repairs that would start at $3000 or so and go up from there. So, really, I should just skip it and get nice new gas lines...oh, and "we won't repair the drywall." So, I called a leak detection company who came out the next day and told me that I had no leaks. None. No movement on the gas meter. No issues. $7000 for no issues strikes me as a bit excessive. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend that anyone use their service...ever. My caveat is that I called their 800 number, and don't know where they were dispatched from, but this is the closest one to my home. I also am the proud owner of a $2000 pressure regulator that was the result of a prior call for a leaky faucet. Needless to say, in the future, I will wait the day or so it takes my regular plumber to get out to my house. $90/per hour, plus materials and non-stop chatter, but he gets done what I need done and leaves without a direct line into my bank account. Mike Diamond plumber was on time, and that's all the good I can say. After looking at the job for about 30 seconds he went to his truck and came back with an extimate of $576.00. I told him that was outrageous and wouldn't pay that. He tried to talk me in to buying a different valve from him because the Kohler valve that I had purchased would leak in a few years, Not a chance! I still had to pay their outrageous service call price. I think most of the money they make is just showing up to give a really high estimate, and collecting their service call $$$ without doing a lick of actual work. I called another company and they came and did the work for $150.00 (I gave him a $50.00 tip) George Brazil Plumbing is their "Sister Company" I called them first and had an appointment for an estimate, but they called me an hour before they were supposed to be there and said they couldn't come. They arrived in a timely fashion, were extremely friendly, looked at the heater, said they couldn't do anything because the heater needed to be replaced. They quoted me $5,000 to replace my heater! $5,000!!!!! I recently went through this process at another property and the total cost was closer to $1,000 using a local plumber. If you are really really rich and really really really don't care, you should call them, otherwise wait 'til morning!! We sent the technician away (after forfeiting a $94 fee just for him showing up), and called a different company who did the repair for a reasonable price.
