Good food, great atmosphere. A must for people that love TMZ!

I have been to LA 4 times. This was my first visit to The Ivy. I called about a week in advance and made reservations for 2 at 1pm. I requested the patio and the woman on the phone said they would do their best to accomodate our request. They called the day before our reservations to confirm and I, again, requested the patio. Finally the day arrived. We showed up at 12:50 and although all the tables were full, there were not many people waiting to be seated. We checked in and, again, requested the patio. Within 10 minutes we were seated a great seat on the patio right up front along the white picket fence! I couldn't believe it! Although we never saw any celebrities, it was a lot of fun watching all the people pull up to the valet in their mercedes, town cars and bmw's, (We parked in the parking garage by Lisa Kline and Kitson - only cost us $4). The service was good. Not overly attentive, but we didn't feel ignored either. We ordered tall bottle of water, champagne, the grilled vegetable salad with shrimp and the chicken enchillades (bill was $90). The food was good. We ate slow so we could enjoy the atmosphere! We did not feel rushed at all. The funniest part was when a mini van kept driving by with the sliding door open and video cameras in hand. Had to be TMZ! Overall it was a great experience, celebrities or not. It was fun to feel like part of the LA scene, even if only for an hour!

Pros
+ People watching

Cons
- Price - but worth the splurge

Positive Experience

On a recent southern CA vacation from the midwest. My wife and 3 teenage children had to check out the Ivy. We made reservations on a Sunday late afternoon. Didn't need them. We were seated right away. Appetizers were fast and excellent. Service was great. Entrees were served very hot and portions were HUGE. We had a great dining experience. While we didn't notice any celebs, we had fun pulling up to the valet in our rental Mercedes - S Class while folks on the patio were trying to figure out if we were anyone notable.

Dinner was expensive for 5 ($700), but we expected it to be.

The celeb frequented Ivy restaurant amazed me with their friendly staff. When I went for dinner at the restaurant, I received excellent treatment. Servers are nice and very helpful with my questions.

The menu is very typical American cuisine with some hints of Meditarranean.
I had the lobster ravioli and it was exquisitely made. The sauce was rich with flavor and the raviolis were perfect: not too soft nor too dry.

It is a good place to dine at with a good ambience + good food, just make sure you make reservations prior to going!

Good atmosphere, a bit overpriced

After my 3rd dinner at the Ivy I finally realized what it was I liked and disliked about the place.

The Good: the atmosphere is nice. The seats are cozy. The service is really friendly and they seem like they want you to be comfortable there. Really, it feels like a nice place to have dinner.

The Okay: the food is good, it's just not worth the cost. The last time my wife got the lobster pasta dinner. It was "good", but not nearly worth the $60-70 price tag. And my veggie pasta was also good, but not worth the price.

Overall I would recommend trying it once to decide for yourself if the food and ambiance warrants the price.

The staff could do with some Customer Services training

My husband, daughter and I were invited to lunch earlier today at The Ivy by two close friends, visiting town for a couple of days. I can somewhat overlooking or should I say choose to ignore the fact that we felt rushed to order our food and drinks, the waiter was not the usual pleasant and chatty type, and that one should avoid using the one restroom not suitably located across from the kitchen where the line has a tendency to extend into the interior dining room. However, I cannot overlook the rudeness of the host. It absolutely amazed me. After paying the huge bill ( of course this was given to us as soon as the plates were swiped off the table) we were still enjoying our overpriced drinks when Mr. personality approached the table and asked us to leave as the space was needed. He has absolutely no interest in letting us explain that we were not quite ready and also had the audacity to leave a couple of cookies as what appeared to be as a consolation prize. A couple of minutes later Mr. Personality marched over to our table. By this time, I think it finally dawned on him that we paying customers had no intention of leaving until we were actually finished. He proceeded to reach across the table, grab the cookies and storm off. Over the years we have eaten in all types of restaurants and it is the first time that we have ever been approached by a staff member to leave before we were actually ready. We are not in as hurry to venture back there and they should consider improving their Customer Services.

Cons
- Lacks Customer Service skills

after making a reservation, and turning up on time, we were given a table for 3 with one seat facing the wall. the pasta dishes were very good, but the pepper shrimp was bland. the mix of different cuisines on the menu was concerning.. 1 indian dish, a couple mexican, some southwestern but mostly italian. makes you wonder what they're good at.... the evening was expensive (as we expected) but the restaurant is not worth it.

Pros
+ the place to be in la

Cons

I've been a loyal fan of the Ivy for the past 10 years.
I've never had a bad experience there, only fabulous ones.
I make sure to visit at least once on each of my visits to LA,
usually twice! The grilled veggie salad with shrimp is to
die for! The deserts are amazing, love the make your own
sundae! The atmosphere is great, they make you feel
like a celebrity, and you can see eating there as well!
Great food, great service, great people watching!

Love the Ivy

My friends and I visited the Ivy during our yearly trip to LA. We were expecting over priced, mediocre food and service. To our surprise we had a great time. The food was wonderful, we all enjoyed our meals. We even had dessert, which was amazing. And to be honest, the prices were a little high, but in my opinion kinda comparable for the quality and portion you got. Our server wasn't the best, but the rest of the staff was great. It took no time for us to get seated and get our food. We will definitely go back next year.

Great place for expensive, forgettable food

Decided on a whim to come here for lunch with my fiance & his mom, so we called the restaurant and were told we'd have a table within 1/2 an hour. Naturally, we weren't given one of the coveted outdoor patio seats (those were already taken by gauche tourists, even flashier locals & NO celebrities), but the interior 'living room' we were taken to-- little fireplace and larger-than-life floral arrangements & fruit bowls--was cozy and colorful. The space was crowded & the crowd itself was an eyeful --I'd never seen so many plastic parts in one place! The fresh pineapple juice (although a two-digit price for a glass of juice is absurd) was tasty but the spinach salad w/shrimp was forgettable. For 3 lunch entrees and 3 drinks, the bill came up to $200+!! Unless I'm invited here by J.Lo or something, I won't be coming back.

Pros
+ Pineapple juice, absurd people watching

Cons
- $25 per person minimum for bland food

Great Atmosphere and Service - Food was good.

Well ... we ended up on Robertson Blvd. because we were hoping to run across Britney Spears. She seems to always end up on Robertson. We have lived here (in LA) too long to not have seen this chaos in action. We didn't see her.. but walked up on The Ivy in the process. I was wearing a velour sweat suit and my friend was in jeans. We felt like it was still a place we could walk into for lunch. We asked how long of a wait for 2.. 10 minutes? Great! We ended up getting 2 chopped salads... and it was SO good. The mocha was good too. What an unexpected treat! Felt totally comfortable. Service was great too.

CRAZY expensive but great service

Yeah, the prices here are ridiculous. Really. Appetizers are the prices of other places' entrees. Lunch prices are dinner prices. We had crab cakes and spaghetti, and while the crab cakes were okay, I've had better at a local place's happy hour for $4. The spaghetti was bland and unimpressive. For that price, the food should be life-changing. Our service was great though; water glasses didn't go more than 2 min, without being topped off, waiters were cheerful and kind. We went on a Saturday morning and it was 1/2 full but got more crowded towards noon. Maybe go once if you have to, but expect to pay A LOT for below average food.

Pros
+ Great service

IT'S NOT WORTH THE HYPE!!!

My fiance, sister and I ordered $62 worth of food and drink here one night, just thought we'd get a little bite because we weren't too hungry. Little did we know there is a tiny fine line at the bottom of the menu saying there's a $25 per person minimum (not including drinks!) I work in Entertainment, have a six figure income, and price wasn't an issue, we just didn't feel like ordering that much.

So our waiter made us feel like pieces of trash and said he'd "try" to get the manager to waive the minimum..

They said they'd let it slide, but made sure to make us feel cheap before we left,
we only took up the table for 35 minutes too!!!!

I heard good things about this place but it's only for rich a**holes and Jennifer Aniston!
I wish I knew this little tidbit before I went, now I will never go AGAIN!
Trust me, It's not worth the Hype!

PS. California Pizza Kitchen makes better Pizza!

Pros

I was able to make a reservation for a Friday lunch easily, and they were very accommodating when I showed up late. I sat outside on the patio and it was busy but still nice. The service was great and YES the food actually is good! It's a bit pricey but everything came out SO fast. We started off with the crab cakes which usually comes in 3, but they upped it to 4 since there were 4 of us with no probs. I tried the lobster ravioli - omg the sauce was delicious and the ravioli had big chunks of lobster! Everyone else enjoyed their meal - they had the fish and chips (HUGE SERVING!), carne asada (tender beef) and seafood pasta (very fresh).

The place is super overcrowded, overpriced and overrated. You have to elbow your way through to your table and you are barely able to seat without leaning or touching the person at the table next to you. Service is rushed and you can’t really enjoy your lunch without feeling being pushed out from the table. Food is below average: soft shell crab was very greasy and tasteless; Tuna Ceviche mainly consisted of carrots… And lunch for 4 without drinks ran about $400, which is average for a 4 star restaurant but not for what you get at Ivy … Don’t waste your money.

Pros
+ Nice desserts

While reading other reviews I was almost afraid to try the Ivy because I heard the service was poor (if you're not a celebrity) and the food wasn't that great, etc. I decided to try it anyway and made reservations the day before I intended to go. It was as simple as that! The next day I arrived about 10 minutes early, checked in, and right on time was brought to a table on the front patio. The service was fantastic! Our waiter seemed like he had a lot on his plate, but was very attentive and quick...our food came out about 10 minutes after we ordered it. As stated, the food is very pricey...but what I had was delicious (lobster ravioli). Overall, I was completely satisfied with the service, atmosphere, and food. The only thing I was disappointed in was that I did not see a celebrity, although I did see a few pro athletes...there's always next timt though!
