I was a military spouse for 12 years and travelled around the world during that time. Our budget was always smaller when it came to our homes and autos so that we could eat out alot. I LOVE food. My family refers to me (lovingly, of course) as a "food snob". Food is one of my favorites subjects to talk about and I am very picky about several things: coffee, ice tea, chocolate, bread, cheese and pizza. When it comes to restaurants, I don't care at all about "ambiance". All that matters is that there is exceptional food and decent prices. Andrea's fits the bill to a tee! I moved away from the Hampton Roads area over 4 years ago and the single thing that I miss the most is Andrea's pizza. I am salivated just thinking about it now (I kid you not). The crust is the perfect combination of a crispy substantial bottom with a tender, chewy outer rim. The taste of the crust is like fresh baked real Italian bread (not the kind from a grocery store but the kind from a kiosk in the train station in Rome). I could go on and on about the sauce but suffice it to say that I used to go in and buy large styrofoam containers of it and eat it with a spoon straight out of the refridgerator. I wish I had asked for the recipe before I left so I could try and replicate the pizza in my home in Wisconsin but it probably would not be the same. When you go, be sure and order the garlic knots for an appetizer and try to save room for the canolli (good luck with that...you can also order the canolli to go). Tell the owners that Leanne sent you and that she would really like their crust and sauce recipe, okay? I ordered one of their calzones and it was AWESOME!!! The calzone was around 6.00 and it was huge. It was definitely more than I could eat. It's kind of a small place with comfortable booths and the service was great. I got my food super quick and the waitress was really friendly. I will definitely go back and try the other food. The decorations are beautiful and the customers are made to feel at home. The seats in the booths feel like they are pews from a church. They are the most uncomfortable chairs i have ever sat in. you think they would spend some money and buy some cushions. The restaraunt is always clean and the service is great. The food is wonderful. I have been to Italy before and I think that the Italian dishes at Andreas are the best that I've ever had. We typically go on a Friday night, and order an Extra Large Combination pizza. Their pizza's are absolutely wonderful! If there is a topping not on the menu that you like, they will put it on the pizza for you if they have it. It's a great family owned business, and the owners often check in on the tables to see how everthing is. When my boyfriends mom is in attendance, she often goes for the pastas which she says is fantastic. Her favorite is the Manicotti. When my fiancee and I arrived at around 8pm on a weekday night, the restuarant was completely empty except for the staff. We ordered mixed drinks which we had to send back twice because they were horrible. We waited quite a while for our appetizers to arrive and by the time we finished them and still had no main entree, we just asked that they be boxed up to go. The food was decent but the wait and the service was less than pleasant. They claim to be "authentic" but their quality of food is poor. It took 2hrs to get my meal. They have no wine selection (what kind of Italian restaurant doesn't have good wine?). The food was bland, they over charged me for drinks by adding things that I didn't even order. After discussing this with management all she could say was she was sorry and gave a whole list of exuses (none of which were valid). I didn't even get a discount. Horrible. We had one bad experience there with the Lasagna. I do not care for their Sphaghetti, and they lake a variety of noodles. Pizza is my favorite there, but still not close to what I have had in Italy and at NY style pizzas. They run out of garlic knots early (after 6pm, they seem gone). Short menu, but overall, a good place to get something "Italian" and is fairly priced. I prefer this over Olive Garden anyday. Just wish they had more options. Service has either been good, so/so or bad. (one time bad). Improve the menu selection, the variety of pastas, and keep the Garlic Knots going all night (I think they are the best thing there). Their dinner rolls are little to be desired for. I always order Pizza there, and go when the wife wants Lasagna. 3 stars overall.
