A great time with no hassles!

This has been my second time to the City Club and I had yet another awesome time! The atmosphere cannot be compared to any of the other nightclubs in the Downtown area bar scene. If you like to have a great time, be around a variety of people, and see some "skin" here and there in the mix, then this is definately the place for you. Yes, drinks are expensive, but I must say, the bartenders are not shy with their alcohol and the shot server was always easy to find. In summary, if you like to dance, let go of your inhibitions, meet interesting people that are there to have just as much fun as you are, you got to come by......you will not regret it!

Pros
+ Lots of room to move around and dance, speedy bar service, great music good service.

Cons
- None comes to mind.

atmospheric, interesting people, sweet people, fashion statements, good music, threesome

The entrance fee is quite reasonable, only 5 bucks a person. The water and drinks are just a bit expensive though. If you love industrial, techno, and dance music, this is definitely the place for you.

I've gone here quite a few times with friends. It's a wonderful place, the atmosphere is dark and wild. It makes you throw away your inhibitions and do what your heart desires.
What's even greater about this place is that you can hang out with friends without being flirted with every second, like some clubs. You tell someone here to stop, and they get the message and go away.

And yet, I had one of the best nights of my life there on Saturday...
Haha, I don't know if this is allowed but Stefen, if you're out there and you ever see this, I want you to know how amazing yet gentle you were with me, and I hope you always remember your night with the two of us. It was so much more special than you probably think it was to us, I have never met a person quite like you. It was me who said it would only be a Cinderella type deal, but here I am realizing I have so much more to ask, so much more I wish I had said. Such is life, I suppose.

Pros
+ lots of friendly people, no overly pushy people, good dancers, great music, love at first sight, great fashion, stefen, atmospheric, dark, warm and cozy

Cons
- none really. water's a bit expensive.

This place should have been demolished after Hoffa disappeared. Staff is rude and uninterested in guests. Cafe is open if they can keep it staffed and the food is greasy spoon at best. Rooms are dirty and smelly and very very small with stained carpeting. Our bathroom door didn't even shut all the way. This place if falling apart at best.

Awesome, awesome place.
I've come here with a good group of friends lots of times over the years and have always come back with so many stories and had so much fun.

Anyway, the atmosphere is very dark and interesting, there are lots of very friendly and sociable people, no one is OVERLY PUSHY or continues hitting on you if you tell them to piss off. It's wonderful, and I've met some of the best people of my life there.

Lots of eye candy, nice dark fashions, leather, pvc wear. A few really HOT trannies, amazing dreadlock extensions, and great music playing, too.

Last Saturday I went here with my girlfriend and we had the most interesting night of our lives to date...It's something the (later) three of us will not forget soon. Yes, three.

Excellent music and a nice large dance floor. However, the place is dirty and I am guessing under funded. There is NO dress code. And... No one really cares how you dress or how you dance. Which I like. Though the club itself looks quite scary, most of the people are actually quite friendly. Some of the bouncers are very cool and have a good sense of humor. Though some of them take their job way too seriously. Though, it is in detroit, so it is understandable. If you like to dance WITH people, you might have trouble. People here tend to do their own thing. Even if they came with friends, they are dancing by theirselves. Plus, being in detroit, I don't know how many women come along without bringing guys with them. But, if you want to dance with someone you can. It just takes some looking around.
I've been going to this club for nearly 7 years and I love it; that said I have hardly ever seen any money get put into the club. I used to go every weekend, but now I only go about once a month and not at all in the summer. There is no air conditioning in the place, which makes it difficult to enjoy dancing. This club could be so much nicer if more effort was put into maintaining it. It's sad to see a place you love become more and more rundown each year.

The club itself is legendary, but over 20 years of high-attendance & low-investment have more than begun to take its toll. The sound system is a joke. Yes, it's loud, but does it sound good? Not really. The restrooms are dirty. There are a lot of 18-20 year olds in this place.

Save City Club for a special event where the promoters are bringing in their own sound systems, usually over Memorial Day weekend during the electronic music festival.

One of the best clubs I've ever been to! Atmosphere is very dark, very loud, thumping, energizing music. Lots of friendly, interesting people to meet. Most drinks (that I know of) are either $4, $5, or $6. Most people usually wear all black with chains, rings, etc. The more alternative the better! Great place! Beware - they will stop serving drinks around 1:30 - 2ish and only serve water after that.

I don’t think that trendy would be the correct word used to describe City Club. You can be yourself and don’t have to look like you just walked out of a magazine. It’s a "Goth" club, and I use that term loosely. It has great music and cool people, for the most part. but don’t go there if you wanna hear booty music, go there if you wanna hear GOOD music.

Ramada Inn Downtown (formerly the Leland Hotel) $59 - $94 USD From the outside, The Ramada Inn Downtown looks like one of those once-posh, now faded old hotels with a grand lobby, 120 rooms, beautiful ballroom and plenty of art deco flourishes. It was built in 20s. The rooms are small and the beds a bit firm, but there's more than meets the eye at this infamous landmark. Some of Detroit's hipsters live among the rooms turned apartments and the parties are legendary which has given the hotel the affectionate title of The Chelsea Hotel after the legendary namesake in NYC. On the second floor of the hotel is the infamous Leland City Club, an unmarked underground Gothic/punkish club that has been beating with the pulse of Detroit for more than 20 years. I ran into Marilyn Manson there one night. However, even the city at large has some history there as the famous lounge bar on the now abandoned fourth floor was once a favorite haunt of Teamster President Jimmy Hoffa and the first place that the cops looked when he disappeared in what has now become one of America's great unsolved mysteries. Some say the floor is still haunted.
