excellent meal

This could easily become my favorite restaurant in Dallas, but I'll have to go a few more times to gauge their consistency and see more of their work. This much is the truth: these people understand foie gras. It was the best I've ever had, which is saying something because I overindulge fairly regularly. The pork belly was not exactly to taste (could have used some searing), but was nonetheless very enjoyable. The beef was very flavorful, but maybe a little too salty. But the portions were large, and overall it was a good value. Dessert, which I think is a weak point at 5-star restaurants, was very, very good (it was some sort of creme brulee with carmel popcorn and ice cream). And there are lots of pleasant little extras along the way (good bread, candy, sorbet, pre-dessert etc.).

There are cheaper five-star restaurants, but you do get more for your money here. The staff is incredibly attentive, very welcoming, and spot-on with recommendations. I'm looking forward to going back.

Pros
+ great food and great service

Wonderful dining experience

Formal, gracious atmosphere. They remembered our name throughout. Crab cake appetizer for husband, truffle-topped root vegetable appetizer for me. Beef main course for both. Grand Marnier souffle for dessert. Upon our leaving, they presented us with a nicely wrapped spice loaf bread for breakfast the next day.

Extremely elegant dining

The French Room is absolutely the most elegant place to eat in Dallas. Fabulous service. Your water glass seems to fill itself. I had the black fettuccine ... delicious ... even after they tell you what makes it black.

A meal to remember

The food here is too die for! Be warned, starve yourself before you dine here. I kid you not, every course was like a blissfull hell. I was about to burst, and could not stop eating. . . The chef is definately the star here. I don't think there is one single thing on this menu that I would not love, (and I had no idea what to order!)
If I had an option for one last meal, this is definately it!

Pros
+ The food is heavenly

Cons
- Needs a little more attention to detail from the servers.

Great Downtown Hotel

The Adolphus is a great hotel that has been around forever. Their service is wonderful and can help you with anything in Dallas. It sits in a great location with easy access to both downtown and uptown hot spots. The decor is unmatched if you're looking for old-time class.

Pros

If you want upscale service, food, and atmosphere, this is a fabulous place. It is expensive, but if you have to ask, then you can't afford it. You don't eat at a place like this because you care about money. You eat here for the experience, and to be treated like a queen or king. Top Chef, top wait staff, top everything. This is 5 star and where you go when you need or want to feel special or make someone feel special....ah,,,unforgettable!

Pros
+ FABULOUS!

- wish I could afford it once a week!

5 star dining experience!

This is the best dining experience in all of Dallas. The atmosphere is dazzling and the most romantic spot. The cuisine has earned the 5 star Mobil rating, and one look at the menu will tell you why. You have a choice for three selections at a fixed price or can go with the food and wine pairing menu. This is the place to go for a special night out on the town. The waiters have been there for years, wear white dinner jackets, and will do everything they can to make sure your dining experience is outstanding. The food is delicious and skilfully prepared, and the wine list is extensive. We will always return here again and again. You'll receive little extras, too, such as small candies at the end of your meal and a freshly baked item to take home for breakfast the next day.

Historic

I stayed here for a girls weekend just last week. Located right smack in the middle of downtown Dallas, you can't get any more Dallas than this. This place is pricey so just go ahead and get your wallet out. Don't be shocked in a place like this when valet parking is mandatory ($20/day). After checking in don't bother with your luggage, they'll bring it up to your room. This place is beautiful downstairs. Be sure to look around and explore at some point in your vacation. Queen Elizabeth stayed here in the 1800's so you know it's good! It's an old hotel so keep that in mind when you turn the key to your room. The rooms are a great size and the bedding is to die for! I slept like a dream. Also, there is a DVD player in your room so bring a movie if you'd like. This place is really great and I would recommend it, especially if you have an appreciation for things of historic nature.

Fabulous Dining Experience

I am incredibly happy after dining at the French Room. The service was impeccable, the setting is exquisitely beautiful, and the food kept on brining an idiotic smile to my face. I shared everything with my dining companion, and from the amuse bouche to the complimentary sweets after dessert, we had to work exremely hard to find a single flaw. And that single flaw was the only one we found.. but we'll speak of that later. One appetizer was a crab cake served over a ginger-lemongrass lobster sauce, a crab cake which consisted entirely of jumbo lump crab. The other starter was tomato sorbet served over seasoned ahi tuna tartar in a bowl of the most tasty thing I've ever had that professed to be a mere gazpacho. The orange sorbet cleanser was charmingly presented in ice cornocopias, but otherwise not memorable. However, the entrees were amazing! The diver scallops dish had 4 gorgeous specimens seared in almost jerk-like spices resting on fork-smashed potatoes with a sauce of chicken jus. Chicken jus with scallops!? But it was perfect! The result was a constantly entertaining mixture of home-spun comfort (potatoes and jus) surrounding the more rarified scallop flavor. The accompanying cherry halves were tasty, but not necessary. Our other entree featured a medium rare duck breast, seared fois gras, and squash blossom stuffed with duck/fruit sausage that left me thinking I was in mouth heaven. The accompanying sauce provided just the right touch. The dish may sound busy, but it all worked, and I never had better fois gras - mmm! We enjoyed the complimentary coffee mousses before the desserts made their appearance. The Mansion on Turtle Creek has a worthy challenger for best creme brulee in Dallas, but our other dessert provided the sole flaw. While the mascarpone espresso mousse was unexceptionable and the banana sorbet delicious, the flourless chocolate cake at the base wasn't the silky smooth texture it should have been. The closing sweets were a lovely end.

Pros
+ food, ambience, service, parking, food, lovely parting gift

Cons
- not even worth mentioning; the price was well worth it

My experience in the French Room was by happenstance as an associate of mine was in town for business and staying at the Adolphus Hotel. I've spent 20 years dining at some of our nation's best restaurants in Chicago, SF, DC, New Orleans, & NYC and they all could learn a lesson or two from the French Room. The food was excellent, the presentation was stunning and the service was beyond compare. This is an experience you just need to have in life, I now know why they have were named Zagat's #1 restaurant.
