Not Great

I was expecting to be blown away by the meal. I was NOT. The bread before the meal was very tasty and probably the best aspect of meal. I had the Gnocci, ...It was ...well I didn't even eat it. My friend stated her lamb chop was "marginal' at best. Service was good, desserts were tasty also. Atmosphere: there was no atmosphere. For the price tag you would expect the food to be good. We did not find that to be the case.
It almost felt like we were supposed to say it was tasty just because it's so pricey???
We would not reccomend it and will not eat there again. We would rather visit Vinny's for lack of pretense..

Pros
+ The company we were with, Dessert

Great Italian find!

I would never have guessed an amazing Italian restaurant lay hidden in the slighty sketchy strip mall. Once inside, you forget the surroundings however. While not luxurious by any means, the ambience is nice, even quaint. The servers are extremely friendly and well versed with the menu. Service is never rushed and I guess can be perceived as a bit slow. We LOVED the delicious bread they started out with and asked for 2 extra baskets :). The pastas we had were wonderful and the chocolate mousse, cannoli and tiramisu we all shared for dessert were divine. I'm already dreaming about our next visit!

Pros
+ Delicious food, friendly service

Cons
- Need to get over the location in a dingy strip mall :)

Best Italian in Austin! We have been here many times and are never disappointed. The food is always excellent, the music makes for a very romantic dinner and the service is just as good. We have tried several different items on the menu and have always been very happy with our selections. Who cares that this is in a strip mall? Once you are inside, you don?t even think about the outside. Great romantic Italian dinner!

Good food - flawed service.
We have been to Andiamo 3 times.
-The first time I was served the wrong dish.
-The second time, the bill listed a more expensive wine than what we had ordered.
- The third time the bill listed the correct wine at a much higher price than indicated on the menu.
Sorry, but while the food is good, the substandard service made us decide never to go there again.

Austin's Best Kept Elegant Dining Secret

This has got to be Austin's best kept secret restaurant. While it looks like nothing from the outside, inside it is the perfectly elegant small formal dining restaurant. We went on Valentine's Night and the dining area was never more than 3/4 full, the service was attentive and never rushed.

We had a fixed menu but the risotto, beef, red pepper soup, salad, lamb, and veal were all spot on fabulous.

The creme brulee left us wanting though- the flavor wasn't amazing or memorable.

But the zabaglione was like going to heaven on a sugar cloud. Instant love.

Don't judge this place by the outside, the service, food, atmosphere and prices are all fabulous!

Pros

I liked the quiet environment of Andiamo's -very relaxing. We arrived early but by the time dinner was served it was filling up and we were still able to enjoy conversation at the table, unlike many other restaurants where the noise is a disruption. On this evening there was live music and totally Italian appropriate as well as soothing. Our waiter answered all our questions about the menu and was prompt with service. I'm originally from NY and would find Andiamo's comparable to my favorites in NY. Desserts are my weakness, we all ordered differently and then sampled -- hard choices as they were all great!

Andiamo's -- Great

Tour of Italy Cuisine --- Brilliant Concept --

Andiamo's is one of the favorite Italian resturant's of myself and my wife. We have alway's found the service to be impeccable and the wait staff extremely knowledgeable and help in describing the various dishes. I have some minor allergies and they are not only knowledgeable of the various entree's ingredients, but will work with the chef to accommdate my special needs and requests. We have been going there on a regular basis for about two years and have never been disappointed. Their " Tour of Italy Cuisine " is a very creative idea and has introduced us to new and throughly enjoyable meals. For the level of service and high quality of the cuisine the prices are very attractive. We would highly recommend it for anyone seeking out an excellent family resturant.

Pros
+ Comfortable family atmosphere with great cuisine at a very resonable price

Cons
- A few our our guest's were surprised at the quality level fo a strip mall.

Molto Bene!

Having lived in Italy and then in NYC for the last few years I've gotten used to (and even picky!) about Italian food. Andiamo is the first restaurant in Austin (we've lived here a year) that has "wowed" me with its authenticity, thoughtful menu, and classic but casual ambiance. This little gem is tucked away in the unlikely confines of a strip mall....but don't let the location fool you! The minute you walk in, you are transported to an intimate Italian assemblage. Our waiter was prompt and articulate in the Italian language. There was a man in the back center of the restaurant playing a mandolin (though the songs were a bit "cheesy", stereotypical Italian music). We never ran short of bread or small plates of olive oil complete with heaping mounds of Parmesan cheese. The optional fixed menu pleasantly reminded me of something you would see in Italy. The food was amazing. We all ordered something different....veal & ravioli, linguine alle vongole, etc......and I can honestly admit that every dish was wonderful and rich with flavor. From beginning to end the flavors of our experience blended perfectly. Our meal was topped off with a complimentary glass of either Amaretto or Sambuca. Perfect! We will definitely be frequent patrons!!

Pros
+ Authentic Italian food

Andiamo Ristorante

We have recently discovered a refreshingly pleasant Italian dining experience here in Austin, TX. So much so that we have repeatedly returned for more. It is at the Andiamo Ristorante , 2521 Rutland Drive #325 Burnet Road, Ph (512) 719-3377

To begin with there is the quiet ambiance that lends itself, refreshingly, to quiet conversation, and no shell shock from shouting, banging of china, pots& pans, and silverware.
Initially we are greeted, as an old friend, by a very attentive hostess, and we are seated promptly. This is followed by a wait staff that is polite, and pleasant, who presents the days specials, and accepts our beverage order. Simultaneously, the buss staff will place a basket of very tasty bread, and a dish of olive oil, dressed with a heaping of Parmesan cheese, for pre dinner dipping. Our table setting consisted of linen table cloths, and napkins (even at lunch time), and in the surroundings of quiet, subtle, color and decoration, it speaks ?relax and enjoy?.
The waiter took our order, and there are a myriad of selections to be had. We have sampled several of the entrees offered, from the Salmone Andiamo, down thru several of the Polo specialties, including the alle Diavola, Piemontese, con Selsiccia versions. The Scaloppine Ai Pignoli is one of my favorites, while my wife particularly enjoys the Tilapia Livornese.
All of these entrees are served with, what I would describe as, delicately prepared vegetables, finished al dente, just as I like them. The accompanying sauces are delicate, not overbearing, and add the ?little enhancing touch? to the flavor of the dish. All the while, the wait staff keeps our glasses full, and the dipping oil/cheese replenished.
Finish this with a cup of coffee, which my wife says is excellent (and she is particularly fussy with her coffee); and an Expresso for me ? Ahhhhh! ? Satisfaction!- and ? no bloating!!!! the portions are just right!
On top of all this, when I get my bill I am pleasantly surprised.

Fine Italian Fare

I usually go to Andiamo for lunch when I want to take clients to a restaurant that serves excellent food, is quiet enough for a business conversation, and where the service is prompt and efficient. I recently went there for dinner with my husband and some friends and family members. I hadn?t been there in the evening for a while. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that the special of the day was Seafood Risotto. Risotto is a favorite of mine, a dish I always order when I?m in Italy and which is hard to find in restaurants in Austin.

The risotto served at Andiamo was delicious. It was topped with a variety of fresh seafood. I was also pleased to hear from the charming hostess that there will now be ravioli of the day served at lunch and dinner at the restaurant. The day I was there, the ravioli was filled with lobster and was served in a cream sauce.

Everyone wanted to try the different desserts, so we ordered a sampler plate with cheesecake, tiramisu, zabaglione and fresh strawberries, and various flavors of gelato. The presentation was lovely and the treats were yummy! Complementary sambucca or amaretto was served while waiting for the dessert and coffee. We had a great meal, a wonderful evening, and Andiamo is a restaurant I would recommend to anyone for a business meal, an intimate dinner, or a festive occasion.

Competent if cliched tourist Italian, service still erratic

I've been to northern Italy many times and have a pretty good idea of what the cuisine is supposed to be about. To me, Andiamo seems most like an Italian restaurant catering mainly to foreign tourists; overpriced wine (300% or more above average wine-shop retail -- hey, let me BYO and I won't complain about any corkage fee), unsurprising and unadventurous cuisine featuring lots of pounded filets, heavy sauces (including the ponderous plate o'red) and almost everything stuffed with crabmeat. To me, Andiamo seems almost more like a French restaurant in that instead of emphasizing the natural, vibrant taste of fresh ingredients (which is what Italian cuisine means to me), their focus is on DISGUISING the natural taste through aforementioned stuff-stuff with heavy sauce. Call it artistry if you like, but if this is authentic Italian then I'm Vic Damone, or at least his initials.

I've been here 3 times, my wife's been here 4, but though crowded, the old-fashioned room seemed to have a moribund air last week when we came for our anniversary dinner; it was a ponderous and joyless place. We had the misfortune of being waited on by a sharp-faced young man who gave us the impression he'd rather be anywhere else, and seemed to have only the most tenuous knowledge of the menu -- he told my wife a veal dish was in a cream sauce when it wasn't even close, and when he was reciting the daily specials and she asked about the soup of the day, his rejoinder was, 'I'm not finished yet.' (Indeed.) Andiamo is supposed to lose its mojo when the owner, Giovanni, isn't in residence; when I asked if he was in the house, Bonehead's curt rejoinder was, 'He's out of town.' Indeed he was, and it showed.

I don't want to seem curmudgeonly, but anniversaries and birthdays are customarily marked here by a free dessert with sparklers; for our anniversary we received zero, zilch, nada. Way to bring people back!

Pros
+ Unique for the area, they sometimes still try

Cons
- Service can be spotty; overpriced

Don't get your hopes up

We had been looking forward to visiting Andiamo for over a year having heard about it at an Italian language course last summer. We were preparing for a second visit to Italy last fall. We love Italian food and dining and had hopes for a true Italian dining experience in Central Texas. Our visit on a Saturday evening a week or two after Thanksgiving was very disappointing, especially with all the prior recommendations. Parking is easy near the Jack In The Box. The ambience is not romantic or anything striking, but a room with some Venetian artwork. The restaurant was not full at 7:30. Our reserved table for two was against the wall. After being graciously seated, over ten minutes passed before even the bus boy brought bread and olive oil. No olive oil was left on the table. Our waiter finally appeared and we selected two entrees from the evening's chef offerings. The shared warm calimari/polenta appetizer was excellent as were the two house salads. My wife selected the lobster ravioli after being assured the sauce was light tomato-basil. The actual sauce was so rich and heavy we could not taste the lobster, if it was really there. My zuppa di mare was very hearty and satisfying. No one visited our table to check on the entrees once we were served. Our waiter was woefully untrained in wine service and the wine list. Our glasses were over-filled only once and I had to ask for an ice bucket for our chilled white wine. In Italy, as well as the rest of Europe, once you are seated at a restaurant, the table is yours until you finally leave. At Andiamo, even with a less-than-full house, we had our table bussed while we were trying to salvage our evening over the wine remaining after our meals. We had high hopes for a pleasant evening meal event and were very disappointed on this first visit. We will return someday with lower expectations and hopes the next dining experience will be more professional to match the very good cuisine.

Pros
+ cuisine

Cons
- service, ambience, table, too Americanized
