I love this place!

i moved to the city 3 years ago with my two kitties and was really nervous about how they would adapt to city life, but also that i would find a great place for my guys to go to the vet. i found queen village on accident actually- i was on my way to society hill but after standing for 10 min in their waiting room without even a glance my way, i walked back to my car that happened to be parked across the street from queen village- i walked in and was greeted right away- i knew it would be a great match for my kids from the start!

my kitties always felt comfortable for their exam, the drs are very realistic in their approach to their care! when the time came for a new addition, my puppy was greeted with lots of attention and kisses! and even though they are all a little older, they are still greeted with the same enthusiasm when they come for their appts. i really feel that all my pets have the best care, they are all happy to come which is a good sign to me. The hospital can be busy- but thats to be expected, they have alot of clients that love them too. the cost is pretty reasonable, i paid much more at my last vet. the drs are great and really know their stuff. and the techs all have a kind smile or pat on the head for my pup.

Pros
+ staff, cost, vets

This hospital has been seeing my cats for 12 years. I love the location, the cleanliness of the hospital, the helpful and knowledgeable staff, the compassionate vets and the extremely reasonable prices. I know that if my pets are sick, queen village will see them rather quickly. If they are healthy, they get seen rather quickly. I don't have any complaints about this hospital. I highly recommend them! There is no other place like it in the city!

Pros
+ pleasant & helpful staff, great vets

a hospital like no other

All of my pets (2dogs and 4 cats) have been going there for years. I finally had to put down my one cat yesturday, which is one of the hardest things anyone will have to do. I thought i almost lost her once before when she started having kidney issues. All the doctors who have taken care of her were always so knowledgeable and caring. They took all the time necessary to explain my pets condition and went through all the possibilities of treating her. They are even thoughtful of money issues (which everyone is having with the economy today) Everytime i had a question about anything, i left a message and they always got back to me. My two pets have been hospitalized previously and when i visited daily, i was happy with the conditions-clean and organized. Even all the techs who were there are so compationate and helpful. The staff made the whole process of euthanizing "mindy" as easy as it could have been. I trust all the staff and respect all the doctors. I live in the neighborhood and everyone i know i recommend them to QVAH and everyone agrees that they will not go to another hospital as long as they live in philadelphia!!!

Pros
+ Dedicated & knowledgeable staff

Cons
- busy (but tells you other poeple trust them)

UNRELIABLE, UNACCOUNTABLE, IMMORAL

I do not recommend anyone using this animal hospital. Their cleanliness is questionable, as is their morality. They have proved unable to admit their mistakes, even when these involve the death of a healthy animal.
My beautiful, healthy dog died 4 days after recieving a bacterial infection while he was undergoing surgery under the care of Queen Village. When the swelling appeared, he was given a steriod that spread the infection when he should have been tested to see what the problem was. The following day, when I insisted he was sick, infected, and approaching death, they gave him ANOTHER steriod shot, and refused to accept the possibility that they had done something to cause an infection, even though he was leaking a putrid fluid from his prepuce. On his final day, in his weakened state, he was put under anethesia, and never fully woke up. When I arrived to bring him to a more capable vet, he could not move his back leg; they attributed this to 'a previous and unrelated condition, possibly an anurism', even though a quick glance showed the area to be swollen and puffy. I brought my dog to UPenn, where he was found to be in severe septic shock; he was put down while I held him. The doctors at UPenn knew right away he was severly infected, and in a few minutes they had found the bacteria that had been introduced into his sytem and been allowed to take over his body.
Even after numerous visits and pleas on my part, Queen Village refuses to admit they did anything wrong, and expect payment in full for these horrendous acts. Max was neutered with dirty equipment, and still the situation would have been resolved had they been able to admit they made a mistake and put him on strong antibiotics. Instead, they tell me he was a 'one in 10,000' case where an operation has a horrible ending, and insist that the bacterial infection did not come from their operation (am I supposed to believe the medieval notion that they simply appeared?). What would you do?

They do make it a terrible experience to go there. They are rude and even though I love the vet, I have considered changing vets just for this reason!!

Their prices are reasonable and the vets seem to be able to handle my crazy attack cat without manhandling him, which I appreciate. I just wish they had a cat only waiting room. The dogs scare the hell out of my cats.

I can deal

my Lab has been a patient here since she was 5mths old she will soon be 6 years old. I absoultly love this place...the doctors are great, caring and gentle. My only gripe at first with this office is the front desk...but its not something i can't handle....long hours, complaining people, loud animals...I really don't expect anything else and its not like My pet has to have a conversation with the desk staff. I think i would be a little snippy to if i had to deal with loudness all day long. Hey my family doctors front desk staff is the same way but the most important part is the doctor and the way they treat you or your pet. My pet has recently treated for her tumor which was removed and benign (thank God) after her surgery i picked her up took her home, a few hrs later her incision started seeping ..... and me being the nervene that i am called in a panic. They were jus about to close but waited patiently for me to get there so they can check her out....i walked in and they gracefully took special care of her and fixed her all up. Thank you soo much for easing my mind. most of all for being so loving to my Nina.

Pros
+ caring, professional, clean

Cons
- parking sometimes but i would rather have my car towed b4 i take her to another vet

Exceeds all Expectations

I have used this clinic for about 5 years for my dog and 2 cats. I've never had a bad experience. The prices are very reasonable and the service is beyond all expectations. Recently, my dog, who is 15 years old, started having seizures. I took her to see Dr. Fuoco who is amazing. She listened to everything I had to say and took the time to explain everything to me. She even called me at home twice over the next week to see how my dog was doing and spoke to me for 15-20 minutes each time. An office visit for $49 with 2 follow up calls is above and beyond in my opinion. While sad that my dog is old and that I will soon lose her, I couldn't be more pleased with the care she received.

The front staff work at the clinic because of their love of animals. Just go to any pet shop and you'll see that animal lovers aren't always people persons. I don't need them to chit chat with me so I don't have a problem with them. They're very busy and seem to work quite efficiently.

Pros
+ Very professional, compassionate and patient.

Cons

Queen Village Animal Hospital, Philadelphia

I lived in Queen Village, Philadelphia for 9 years. My two dogs and one cat were cared for by the staff at Queen Village Animal Hospital. My 3-leg-cat suffered, for 2 long years, from a condition called: Megacolon. This is very painful condition and can be life threatening. If medications are not effective, the only possible hope to correct the problem, is to perform surgery for the resection of the colon & part of the large intestine. This is a very complex surgery, has a low success rate, can have significant side effects (i.e. fecal and urinary incontinence) and a high mortality rate. It is indeed the last resource to treat chronic Megacolon. My cat had numerous enemas during the 24 months previous to the surgery, he was treated with medications for Megacolon unsuccessfully and was ultimately emaciated and very lethargic. One week before Christmas I decided to go ahead with the surgery. My cat, who was found wondering in an alley 6 years earlier, had clearly reached the end of the rope. The staff at Queen Village Animal Hospital was simply amazing. They allowed me to visit my cat after hours and during the holidays, if I asked for it. It was a long recovery.... Sometime my cat was awake and sometime was sleeping. There was not much left of my cat than a handful of skin and bones. It was really sad because I began to fear the worst outcome. The cat was discharged on December 30th and has lived healthy and happily thereafter. The bill was expensive but not as expensive as it would have been if the cat received the same care at PENN (where my cat was treated two years earlier for multiple fractures and where he lost a leg and I had to clean out my bank account). Dr. Wellens was very happy about the results of the surgery and even gave me a discount! I will always be grateful to Dr. Wellens and the Queen Village Animal Hospital Staff for the empathic, professional and exceptional care delivered to my cat and to the rest of the my pets.

Have had 4 vets for my 3 bullmastiffs and I have nothing but good things to say about this hospital. Front staff is courteous, and the vets fit my beasts in on a moments notice, every time. The vets and the front desk staff remember my animals by name and character 8 months after seeing them and remind me as part of an extended family. Would recommend them to everyone except for the high maintenance cat owners who seem impossible to please and it sounds as if they have enough of them.

Horrible front desk staff, ok vets, poor system of disposing of dead pets

I have to agree with the BAD reviews that QV Animal Hospital receives on this site. I stopped taking my dog there because of the horrible, obnoxious attitude of the front desk staff but the last straw was the terrible experience I had the last time I was there. The front desk staff have a chip on their shoulder from the moment they pick up the phone. They don't know the meaning of the words "customer service." The same applies when you're in the waiting room or on the phone. They acknowledge your presence only when they're good and ready. They basically act like your mere presence is an inconvenience to them. They're horrible. I thought the vets were okay, though somewhat lacking in bedside manner, but my last experience there was the last straw - while I waited in the waiting room to take my dog in to the see the vet, an animal disposal truck pulled up out front and the driver proceeded to carry out plastic bags full of what I realized were dead animals through the waiting room! I could see their outlines through the plastic including the outline of a little paw. I asked the receptionist if I was seeing what I thought I was seeing and she said yes. When I told her that I thought it was inappropriate that dead animals were being carried out in full view of customers and their pets in the waiting room, she basically just shrugged and basically said "what do you want us to do - this is when they get picked up." The woman in the waiting room with me was there with her 19 year old cat and was already near tears because she thought she might be having the cat euthanized that day - when she realized what was going on she started sobbing in the waiting room. The unsympathetic woman at the front desk just sat there like nothing was going on. I really can't say enough about how horrible that experience was. I now take my pets to BETHEL MILL ANIMAL HOSPITAL and WE LOVE THEM - it's worth the trip to trip to Jersey to get great customer service and superior pet care.

Cons
- Rude Front Desk Staff

I agree with mmnh88. This is not a good hospital.

I have to agree with all the bad reviews and espcially with mmnh88. It seems like they don't need the business or something because I was never treated so bad over the phone. One of the girls there is really something - her name is Dennis. She was so rude and so not nice and so not pleasent to speak to, I felt like she was doing me a favour. She was so bad that I asked to speak to her supervisor, but of course, her supervisor was busy (I don't think she even tried to get me to her supervisor cause she knew I was going to complain) and was suppose to call me back but she never did. I was only trying to get information about issuing a health certificate for my bird, but it just sounded like the staff who picked up the phone (espcially that RUDE Dennis) had better things to do with their time. I don't want to speak badly of people that are dedicating their life to help animals, but the doctors there (hopfully nicer then their staff!) should seriuosly consider who they are hiring, because whoever picks up the phone is the face of that Hospital and right now those face are ugly. Try to find other places and maybe when they realize they are losing money, they will be nicer.

Cons
- Bad customer service. Dennis should be fired.

Great Vet - one cranky front desk person; vet is more important!

Went back to QVAH a 2nd time. They fit him in on a moments notice & again, Dr. Lincoski gave him excellent treatment for his ear infection & provided me with good instructions for his after care. I'm still happy with the veterinary services at QVAH. Yes, the front desk staff were still rude. I stick by my assertion that the quality of veterinary care is far more important than the front desk, so I'm willing to put up with the bad customer service.
---------------------
I read the mixed reviews of QVAH but decided to give them a try. I'm glad I did! My dog & I went to doctor Lincoski for his annual physical & some shots. Dr. Lincoski & her assistant were really excellent with my dog. They treated him very well, did a fairly thorough exam, & gave me important advice. The other vet I had seen at Petsmart (no one else was excepting new patients, I was desperate) told me he really needed his teeth cleaned by a vet. Dr. Lincoski said that his teeth were doing just fine, explained more about brushing & said she would not recommend a vet teeth cleaning until at least next year. I suspect Petsmart was just trying to sell their services. I appreciated Dr. Lincoski's honest advice & the way she & her assistant cared for my dog. There's just one cranky older woman at the front desk who was rude to me on the phone, failed to tell me I needed to show up 15 minutes earlier for my first appointment, blatantly ignored a question I asked her, & snapped at me twice. Perhaps this is the person folks have been complaining about? It seemed like all of the other staff people were very nice. In the end, it's the vet that matters not the cranky woman at the desk, right? Of course I'd like better customer service, but getting a good vet definitely outweighs that! I also really appreciated how LGBT friendly they were. Their pet history form asked for "Partner Name" not spouse/huband/wife, they used gender neutral terms, & had the PGN among their reading materials.

Pros
+ Excellent vet; very caring assistant; nice environment; very LGBT friendly!

Cons
- One cranky front desk woman (everyone else was nice)

mmnh88 - You are a Crank.

No. I haven't been there but hope to have my cat become a patient. I'm just responding to the apparent idiocy of reviewer "mmmnh88"

I just couldn't take someone being offended by the fact that a medical professional, even a medical professional for an animal, might not be accepting patients at this time. The level of idiocy on the internet is sometimes so mind-bogglingly large that I just can't fathom it. If there's bl00d in your cat's stool, you probably need to get your cat to the vet as soon as possible. Whatever it is you expect out of the people making $10/hour to assist you in determining that your pet might be DYING, please don't let it be that they don't have tact in telling you to bring the poor thing in as soon as possible.

Really, if that's the graveman of your complaint, you should be removed from the internet, or at least sent off to whatever island it is where they write poems to Barbaro. Please, if you write in the future think about the fact that an animal hospital is a business, as is everything. If a vet's office has a little bit of a happiness problem, . . . I don't know how to put this, but the majority of their energy is spent as the administrative arm of managing pets dying. That's the funny thing about compassion, you know-- for it to work, it's got to be two-way. Show a little for the admin staff when you go there, and maybe your expectations of them can be justified at a higher level.

Love,

Their staff is very loving and caring and always answer our questions and made payment arrangements with us during some hard times when our cats needed medicine. Dr. Barrie Yallof took great care of our cat Bela who had various health issues, she gave a lot of her time and attention to him and his needs.
I was recommended to Dr. Wellen almost 25 years ago. I always recommend Dr. Wellens to all my family and friends. My sisters all bring their dogs to him and any who have not usually ended up there. Dr. Wellens is kind considerate man. He loves animals and takes special care of all his patients, I am on the neurotic side and he has gone above and beyond for me on many occasions. If anything happens at the hospital then I must believe he was not made aware of it because I had that problem one time I called concerned about my dog she appeared to be in a lot of pain she had ongoing bladder problems. They couldn't bring her in for a week and a half so foolish me went somewhere else to find help for her. First I WENT TO UNIVERSITY OF PENN EMERGENCY ROOM THEY WOULD NOT LOOK AT HER UNTIL I GAVE THE $1200. Needless to say I don't have that kind of cash lying around so I went to a local Vet and was taken for a ride test after test medication through the roof blurred x-rays ECT... I humbled myself and called Dr. Wellens and ask to only see him and he helped me make her comfortable until there was nothing else we could do for her. I continue to go here with my 2 dogs and only see Dr. Wellens. He doesn't send you for unnecessary test to pad the bill he is an honest man. Just like anything things change I think the receptionist is bad for business she is snippy and turns people away. It very sad to have to deal with that after all these years remember she is not the Doctor. If Doctor Wellens retires I may have to go elsewhere if the quality of treatment is affected but until then I recommend this hospital!

Pros
+ Dr. Wellen and medical staff.
