A horrible story, worst service in my life

They serve us red snapper in chili and basil leaves, which I did not order. So I told the waiter, that we didn't order the snapper.
Then she told us that we were wrong and we had ordered the snapper. When we told her (again) that we had not ordered it, so she said, with an attitude in her voice, "So u don't want this right? The kitchen is closed, so you still won't get what you want if I take this back." So we figured fine, since we were hungry.
The green curry came a few minutes later, we realized that there was no eggplant in it at all--it was just curry with fishpaste and basil leaves, bamboo shoots, and ginger. Again, NOT what we had ordered. Where was the eggplant? Then I saw our waitress taking orders at another table.
Bad service is one thing. LYING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS is another. She must not have thought we would see her taking orders. I will never come back to this place. There are plenty of better Thai restaurants that have better food and QUALITY service.

Absolutely Delicious!

I've been a couple times, with larger groups and on dates and it was always a pleasant experience. The food is always good and honest - this place is pretty cheap - and never attempts to conjure fancy presentations, unlike many other - hipper - Thai restaurants in the city like to do. It is fairly authentic mainstream Thai, which is hard to find at this quality anywhere in the US and the menu is substantial, so there is something new to try every time you go. Don't expect a wine list, you'll do better drinking beer... The service is rushed, yes, but the place is always packed, so they try to be as efficient as possible, it makes sense. Expect to wait when you get there, but usually it doesn't take more than 20 minutes and then you are in for a delicious treat! Enjoy...

Average food, below average service

Based on some of the reviews, I was expecting excellent food. My dish was a very average Panang. The sauce was quite oily and it was very mild, despite my request for spicy. I have had much better in most other Thai restaurants that I have been to. One of my companions had a very good beef dish. The other was served a crispy chicken dish that could not have held it's own against your neighborhood chinese takeout.
Service was very poor - we were rushed to give our order and then ignored for more than 30 minutes.
Overall, not worth a second trip.

Uncomfortable Thai

On my first visit, I was rushed by my waitress because they were "busy," told that several items were not available, and then had to wait 40 minutes for a dish that the waitress had insisted that I order, and that turned out to be an utterly generic chicken-cashew stirfry. I agree with some other reviewers that the experience here is probably much different if you are a regular than if you are a newcomer. Which is great if you're a regular, but really good restaurants try to impress everyone. I actually got the impression that the better food, as well as the better service, was being saved for more special customers.

My top thai recommendation anywhere outside Thailand.

Look. I've been to Thailand, ate for a whole week the real Thai food – not the sterile restaurants in Bangkok – but in the countryside, where noone speaks english and you buy your breakfast and lunch for 50¢ in little plastic bags, and it's the best food you'll find in all of Thailand. Only one restaurant I've been outside Thailand is comparable to that, and it's Sripraphai in Queens. The far train ride from my home in Clinton Hill (G+7) gets more than compensated by with the delicious Lapkai and curries, fishes and everything else. It'll make your day.

Fantastic authentic thai food with an extensive menu. Your taste buds will certainly get a pleasant awakening. Service was not great and the decor is nothing to write about so I won't but you'll definitely want to eat out in the garden or the back part of the room. The front part is too brightly lit and the place is noisy but definitely worth going to and you won't feel it in the wallet. The cash only policy is a bit of a drag

We've been to several Thai restaurants in Queens and Manhattan. Honestly, nothing compares to Sripraphai. Fresh spicy food, pleasant service and interesting deserts. Papaya salad with squid and shrimp is delightful. Pork with Thai eggplant and shrimp curry made me sweat. Greens with pork tasty and not spicy. Haven't found a bad dish yet. $1.50 tamarind desert will soothe your mouth. Service is uneven, but they do the best they can. What I really love about this place is that we can drive over there in 10 minutes to take food home rather the call the usual mediocre delivery places.

Food isn't everything

Been here a few times to get the real scoop. On weekend evenings, expect a wait before sitting down, but not too long, say 10-15 mins. Tasty food, decent portions. Decor is nothing special. The rooms, loud and crowded. Some might say "festive"; others, too loud. Entrees are $7.50 to $14+. WATCH OUT for overcharges on your bill--they've done that to us every time we've gone. It's intentional, since it's happened a few times. (Don't know about you, but in an all cash business, it really pisses me off to be nickeled and dimed.) Worst of all was our service. We waited 40 mins. for our dishes, while our waitress served her later-arriving "regulars" first. No one apologized, our waitress never returned to our table--not for water, nothing. We paid our bill through the busboy and left unthanked, unlike the regulars who departed amidst smiles and thank yous. Very disappointed. We'll try Jackson Heights for comparable food, better service, and cheaper prices. They shouldn't treat newcomers like this or they won't have any more regulars.

Had another great trip out there. Tried the crispy catfish salad, which I didn't really enjoy. Had the crispy watercress salad which was great, but not as good as its been in the past. The penang curry = as good as ever. Delicious. And I also tried the drunken sauteed noodles with beef for the first time. Excellent. Note: Takeout orders of the Penang curry are smaller (I think) than the regular orders. I happened to order some more penang to go and noticed this the following morning. If doing so, I'd suggest ordering it at the table...and having them give you the packaging for to go.

Pronouncement Sripraphai New York City Entry #72

In a city as varied and as disputatious as New York, to find unanimity on anything is as rare as coming upon a parking spot. Yet, as far as Thai restaurants are concerned, one name is on everyone's lips - even if that name is routinely garbled. Sripraphai, located in the heart of Woodside, Queens, a few blocks down from the Jackson Heights subway stop. One imagines that the staff keeps a list detailing how customers scramble three simple syllables - two dozen entries would be a start. The menu helpfully provides the correct pronunciation (See-PRA-Pie).
