You can feel like a conventioneer in your own city at celebrity chef Roy Yamaguchi's Hawaiian fusion restaurant. The oddly generic hotel atmosphere, with it’s too-large dining room and benign décor, gives one the feeling that this could be any of the more than two dozen Roy’s outposts in the country. The wait staff is unnaturally attentive; the kind of service one would hope for at the...

The restaurant is a colorful spot filled with folk art and island motifs, pastel-painted columns, blond wood floors, yellow walls and alabaster light fixtures hanging from knotted ropes. The menu is billed as "Euro-Asian," which implies an eclectic melding of Japanese, Chinese, Thai and French cuisines, employed with a classical but light technique. With so many dining options in NYC around this price, I will spend my...
