Royal Pacific Motor Inn

Like a Motel 6

Review Rating
The Royal Pacific gets points for its location - right near the intersection of Broadway and Columbus. Which means you get very easy access to lots of Chinese food, lots of Italian food, strip clubs, and Beat Generation haunts such as Vesuvio's and the City Lights bookstore. This means you can gorge yourself on cheap dim sum, get drunk, go visit some strippers, and then sell your Kerouac-style stream-of-consciousness memoirs about the whole thing, all within a few city blocks.

Other than that, it's like a Motel 6 and the walls are thin, but it's clean and fairly comfortable. There is a computer terminal in the lobby that you can use and there is free parking, which is a rarity in SF. The front desk will print boarding passes for you if you want to check in to your airline via the Internet.

Guests are welcomed into a wood-paneled lobby where the staff doles out walking maps and helpful tips on catching the cable cars and seeing the sights. The rooms offer no surprises, with typical (and pastel) motel furnishings and decor. Suites don't seem to offer much more than the standard rooms, although some include balconies. Bonuses range from an exercise room and Finnish sauna to a guest... more

The Scene Budget lodging often means questionable accommodations in high-priced San Francisco, but this bare-bones motel defies the stereotype. The four-floor, '70s-style building has a friendly staff and sits in a great location right in Chinatown. The receptionist was unprofessional, rude and unfriendly. She should be kept as far away from people as possible! The "supposedly clean" towels, sheets and pillows smelled like perspiration, totally disgusting! The "Air conditioning" consisted of an old dusty fan in front of the bed. The noise was continuous-all night long! The worst part is that they charged more for the room than I was... more

Cold faced receptionists will not smile at you! I took my family to sf and stayed at this hotel which is dirty & smelly. People smoke at the elevator and no free breakfast as they advertise you! They said coffee maker & old dried $99 cent cookies (2 for 4 people) on the room table is your complementary breakfast! Only good thing is here is location-close to most of the attractions. Otherwise if... more

This joint is at the corner of anything going on in the North Beach/Chinatown. Theres food within seconds in pretty much any direction, and for someone out for some weekend enjoyment, this is the part of town to be in. I had a balcony suite, and for 120 bucks I pulled out, the place was all I could ask for. Low profile staff...theres nothing worse than being bothered by random people in a place... more
