For architectural history buffs, Robie House is a must-see. Frank Lloyd Wright designed this 20th-century American architectural masterpiece for Frederick Robie, a bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer. The home, which was completed in 1909, is a classic example of Wright's Prairie School of design, with its open layout and linear geometry of form. Wright prided himself on creating...

Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie Style culminates in the bold silhouette of this Hyde Park house and museum.

The HouseWright's 1908 home design for bicycle magnate Frederick C. Robie is often likened to a steamship, with a low, asymmetrical profile rising to a small third story and broad chimney. Its interlocking horizontal planes, meant to echo the wide American prairie, were realized through one of the first residential uses of steel girders and reinforced concrete. Wright designed every detail,...

I am a huge Frank Lloyd Wright fan and was dying to visit Robie House. It did not disappoint. Robie House is a great example of FLW's Prairie style architecture. The house is still undergoing restoration so a few rooms are not on the tour,...

I really loved this tour and architectural style. I wish it hadn't been under construction. I'd like to go back to see it when finished.

under major renovation

Really lovely outside, but it is crammed into it's lot and it feels almost claustrophobic compared to so many other FLW homes that are part of the landscape. Inside was under a very major renovation, so difficult to assess.

It's over 100 years old, but still a spectacular piece of architecture

One of Frank Lloyd Wright's most famous buildings. Robie House is the most significant example of "Prairie Architecture". When you consider that Robie House is over 100 years old, you quickly realize the genius of Frank Lloyd Wright. This 100 year old house is still...

This historic Frank Lloyd Wright home on the University of Chicago campus is well worth a visit. Come on a weekend when the university is not in session for the best chance to park nearby. Both the site and the interior are worth the time,...

Business description (5)

The Robie House on the University of Chicago campus is considered one of the most important buildings in the history of American architecture. It was created by Frank Lloyd Wright for his client Frederick C. Robie, a forward-thinking businessman. Designed in Wright's Oak Park studio in 1908 and completed in 1910, the building is both a masterpiece of the Prairie style and renowned as a...

This is the former home of Frederick C. Robie, the bicycle magante of Illinois. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, this house and museum is a popular landmark and tourist attraction in Chicago, IL.

Renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright himself termed Robie House as 'the cornerstone of modern architecture'. Much of the architectural world agrees. It is not only the best representation of Wright's Prairie period, but also a national landmark. The bold horizontal lines and the overhanging roofs are distinctly Wright. The house is managed by the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio Foundation.

One of the best examples of Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie-style architecture, Robie House boasts characteristic horizontal lines, stained-glass windows, and balconies. Wright designed the rooms to be energy efficient by keeping out direct sunlight and allowing enough light in to keep rooms from growing too dark. The concept was ingenious for 1910, and it's still impressive today. The interior is...

Nearly demolished in the 1950s, the home came to be regarded as the culmination of Wright's Prairie Style and one of the world's most important buildings. Later donated to the adjacent University of Chicago, the building housed dormitories and offices until 1997, when it was converted into a museum, with much of the original furniture intact and several tours of the airy interior daily. The attached bookstore sells Wright-related books and gifts.
