“The River Café opened in June of 1977 in a forgotten and abandoned neighborhood by the Brooklyn docks – desolate except for trucks waiting to enter the piers. When Michael Buzzy O’Keeffe first “found” this spot, it was barren and devoid of life. To him, this small strategic piece of chaotic waterfront was special – lacking any civility, but with wonderful possibilities. This was the oasis that...

Due to damage from the storm on Monday, October 29th, The River Café will be closed until further notice. We are currently not accepting any reservations. The extensive rebuilding and restoration will continue to keep us closed for at least another month. We will not be open for the Christmas or New Year's Eve holidays.
An anomaly: food that's good enough to rival the view.
No place in the city combines spectacle with hideaway intimacy and undiluted romance the way the River Café does. And if more customers will take photographs of the Brooklyn Bridge’s steel underbelly than of their plates, the food is still much better than you might fear if you’ve been to other restaurants with souvenir views. — Pete Wells
Gorgeous views of Manhattan, absolutely perfect food and perfect, professional staff. Can't say much more really.
Our son took us to the River Cafe, he wanted to take us somewhere we hadn't been before, and he wanted it to be very special. We all thought that the view is absolutely amazing, it can not be beaten. We had a lovely evening, the food was great, the staff was professional and kind, and the view is spectacular.
The views from this waterfront restaurant are dazzling, particularly at night, when the lights of Manhattan blaze brightly across the East River. The menu at the River Cafe covers an array of continental specialties, including rack of lamb, tuna tartar, and caviar. An exceptional wine and cocktail list is also available.
