Tokyo Wako Long Beach

Very entertaining hibachi, tasty shashimi and other no-nonsense Japanese dishes at reasonable prices (for Long Beach). We tried other Zagat recommended places in Long Beach but liked Tokyo Wako best - it was also the cheapest!

Service was excellent food was fantastic. Maybe this restaurant turned things around since the last reviews were written. Our waitress was Cory and was very attentive. The only negative is the hostess acted like she was stoned. Barely talked and only mumbled when she did.

I really see potential for this Tokyo Wako but currently its let me down several times. The hostess and waiteress has no common courtesy and manner. Instead of tending to their customer they were too busy socializing staring out the windows and people watch. 3/12/09: There were about 12 of us celebrating a birthday recently. We were seated in a room where our food would be prepared in front of us. The chef was good, but it took him a long time to show up. Two of us ordered the vegetarian dinner. Went there on a Sunday night and the place was almost empty. My husband and I ordered a soda each and our waitress brought us our drinks in plastic to-go cups!! Why?? Because they did not have clean glasses. Anyway she did bring us glasses eventually. As for our food she brought out my dish then a few minutes later she brought out my husbands dish. Food is excellent! Have had a variety of sushi, udon, tempura and teriyaki dishes and am very pleased. Host staff is a bit slow but servers are very good.
