The Ivy

Built with a creative combination of American gothic and Martha Stewart, the Ivy invites guests to lunch and dine in the shabby chic of a deteriorating garden home. Out on the Ivy 's patio, white tables topped with potted plants and candles sit near pillow-lined benches, bordered by a peeling white picket fence. Inside, the vine-encompassed cottage houses more tables, surrounded ... more

Unless you`re a somebody, you may not even notice this somewhat well-worn classic with its picket fence border, but the somebodies from around the world favor this contemporary American restaurant. It`s wall-to-wall celebs, in the usual twos and threes, that dine on chef Richard Irving`s famous California dishes, including crab cakes and the favored grilled vegetable salad. The Scene Husband and wife co-owners Richard Irving and Lynn von Kersting installed a white picket fence in front of the patio adorned with antique French garden chairs. Pre-dating shabby chic, the interior is cluttered with peeling, painted furniture, faded chintz, old paintings and more American flags than a revival meeting. I have been to LA 4 times. This was my first visit to The Ivy. I called about a week in advance and made reservations for 2 at 1pm. I requested the patio and the woman on the phone said they would do their best to accomodate our request. They called the day before our reservations to confirm and I, again, requested the patio. Finally the day arrived. We showed up at 12:50 and although all the ... more

After my 3rd dinner at the Ivy I finally realized what it was I liked and disliked about the place.

The Good: the atmosphere is nice. The seats are cozy. The service is really friendly and they seem like they want you to be comfortable there. Really, it feels like a nice place to have dinner.

Yeah, the prices here are ridiculous. Really. Appetizers are the prices of other places' entrees. Lunch prices are dinner prices.
