Mexican food so good, they named it twice. Located in the heart of the city's River Walk, Rio Rio Cantina offers tried-and-true Tex-Mex dining, both indoors and overlooking the river. Do not miss favorites such as Green Enchiladas, beef and Chicken Fajitas and enormous Quesadillas. The bartenders also make a darn good margarita. This is a colorful, fun and noisy place where kids blend in well and ... more

The Scene At the Riverwalk's Rio Rio Cantina, diners have almost as many options of places to sit as they do meals from which to choose. The cantina has a couple of indoor dining rooms, a bar, two patios that overlook the Riverwalk and even a few tables right on the river. The patios appear to be the most popular, but when eating there, be on the lookout for an adroit gang of pigeons ... more

Horrible Food....Horrible Experience

My family eats mexican food once a week at the least and this by far was the worst "mexican" food we have ever had!!!! My husband got beef fajitas and they undercooked and obviously one of the worst cuts of meat they could find since it was mostly chewy fat. My son got the chicken tenders plate and they do not even offer fries but they do dump a bag of potato chips on the side. I had a combo platter ... more

I cannot believe that this place has all these great reviews. I go to San Antonio all the way from Dallas and have the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Here is what they call Enchiladas:
Stuff a tortilla with boiled chicken. Open can of cheap enchilada sauce. Pour.
Soup: Same as above (maybe skip the tortilla).
It was really that bad. I would rather eat at Taco Cabana than here.
Please ... more

Great fun, good food, good service. There's almost always a wait for a table, but it's right on the Riverwalk so the time passes easily.

I live in San Antonio and took my Nephew and his family from out of town, it was the worst and most embarrasing experince I have had. We asked to sit outside they sat us as far in as you can get, by the restrooms, when we told the person seating us we wanted outside they told us, WHATEVER! We waited 20 min no one helped us we were leaving and I wanted a refund for my drink the manager told me he ... more

I came to San Antonio expecting to find some authentic places along the riverwalk and mostly what I found was Lone Star, Hard Rock Cafe and other places like that. I chose Rio Rio because it looked a bit different. Boy was I wrong

I have stopped eating at the famed Casa Rio. They only do things exactly their way; there is always a long wait; and the food is OK. My business goes to RIO RIO, where they are ALWAYS accommodating, ALWAYS friendly, OFTEN have good entertainment, RARELY make me wait (and NEVER long), and ALWAYS have good food at a fair price

Don't kid yourself, the food only vaguely resembles Mexican cuisine. That doesn't, however, mean that you can't enjoy the varied menu, festive atmosphere, wonderful location, and reasonable prices. Relax and enjoy.

Nearly all of the restaurants along the Riverwalk are above average, or else they would not stay in business very long. Diregard the previous rater who called it "not real Mexican food." If you want "real," go to Mexico. If you want food that is safe to eat in a clean environment, eat in the US and accept the fact that restaurants are allowed some variability. Rio Rio is a very good restaurant ... more

This popular restaurant that sits off the river downtown San Antonio comes alive on weekends. Its romantic setting includes river boats, tourist, and plenty of mexican culture. The delicious food completes an enjoyable day or night out. Their specialties range from tender chicken/beef fajitas to luscious enchiladas to nachos a la carte. The aroma alone fills the air with what awaits your fill. ... more
