You won't realize it's vegan

Review Rating
I always expect vegan and vegetarian meals to leave me hungry, but the food at RFD is so good and filling I didn't even realize it was vegan.

They have everything from burritos (my favorite because they're packed with flavor) to sushi to meatloaf.

When we are just pooped-out and tired after a long day's work, and we just don't have the energy to cook at home, we will drive over to RFD on Santa Monica Blvd - the food is hot and nutritious, satisfying and delicious - the wait staff is very friendly, there may not be a ton of variety to choose from, but there is still a 2-3 page menu of choices. Usually they combine things like tofu and tempeh ... more

I'm a fan of all things light and healthy, but after I had my first vegan meal at Real Food Daily a couple years ago I was completely turned off to extremes. After eating their "meatloaf" plate my stomach started talking to me. The next day I stank some kind of nasty. I decided that'd be my first and last venture into veganism ...or so I thought. The other day, my friend invited me there again. And ... more

Alrighty, a first for this site...a Vegan restaurant! This is Celeste, the often mentioned wife of Aubrey, and I'm reporting in since I enjoy...let just say...meatless cuisine far more than he does. As a disclaimer...our trip to this particular place was instigated by the many glowing reviews of it, even people who said they were staunch carnivores said that they loved it and couldn't tell... more

An extensive vegan menu that would satisy even the most hardened meat eater. My husband loves their Rueben while I usually opt for the Basics; a create your own choice of grains vegetables and a protein plus sauce. Everything tastes so fresh and flavourful and is made on the premises including their yummy desserts; dairy free low fat Tiramisu whats not to love

i had been DYING to go to RFD for years now but could never justify trying something new when we could go to vegan express instead. but, we finally went for my birthday. the nachos with taco mix are AMAZING. i selected the taco entree and expected soft shells.. i was a bit disappointed when they were hard, stale shells. not to mention the fact that it was basically nachos in a different form. ... more

RFD can be it or miss, I agree, but I have received more hits than misses. I love their Thanksgiving themed food, the mashed yams are awesome! The nachos are awesome, the club sandwich is great, mashed potatoes are rad and so is the gravy. Of course, I can make all this at home for less money. Still, I bring friends here. The dining area is cramped. Wait staff can be a little too snobby and the bathroom ... more

I’m an omnivore. I have had some food weirdness in the past, no dairy, no red meat, no mammals, but never fully vegetarian or anything close to vegan. I like vegetarian food though, sometimes even a raw menu now and then.

The nachos and mashed potatoes are excellent, but anytime we've veered from the nachos the food has been pretty disgusting. The cupcakes are good but the cookies are really dry and they use carob instead of chocolate so you wont like them if you're not a carob fan. The rice was overcooked and the bbq salad was really horrible with slimy yucky tofu pieces in it. The restaurant is cramped and crowded ... more

In a restaurant where all the food is vegan and organic, I would think I'd have a lot of choices of delicious entrees. Unfortunately, every time I vary from the same 3 items, my meal is mediocre. I recommend the TV dinner, the Salsbury Seitan, and the Nachos. The TV dinner and Salsbury Seitan both come with vegan mashed potatoes which aren't bad. Occasionally there's a good special. I've never been made fun of or forced to wait like the review below me suggests- but yes, the staff could be friendlier.

The food is probably the best vegan food I've had in LA, and is clearly of high quality. I'm always happy with what I order.

The ambience could be better- I miss the old awkward bowls on the wall and the crazy color scheme.

It's all good.

I have to say that I am only so so on the food. It is good if you feel like eating food that tastes like it is good for you. I am a junk food vegan myself ( I love my fries). The place is small and it can be drafty. I love sitting at the counter because you always meet interesting people there and have a nice chat. I also love most of the specials at least 75% of them. My whole experience here was amazing! I had come in from out of town and was impressed by the food. I ate a raw burrito wrapped in a collard green, inside was guacamole and a delicious nut spread. My family frequents this restaurant because it is one of few vegetarian restaurants in our area. The menu always includes 2 special entrees of the week, a daily soup, plus their usual menu options. The food is very good and you get good size portions.
The food is actually health - not only vegan, but also organic
The prices are low - not sure what some people expect - but we usually spend $30 for 2 people
The service is great - but the food can take a little while -- hmmm maybe because it is FRESH and not microwaved ... more

Every time I come here I'm very happy with the food I order BUT am also really annoyed with how long it took. Seriously, why does it take so long? It's also kind of a noisy, ugly space. And a little overpriced. But the food is good and you feel healthy after eating it.

My partner likes comforting, plain food. I like flavor. He loves this restaurant, so when it's his choice, we go. There's creativity in the kitchen, but it's mostly displayed in the creation of vegan versions of boring food. The desserts are pretty good.

They don't do reservations for after 7. And they'll let you wait for an hour or more if you have a group of 5. They don't have a really good policy - about 10 groups that came after me jumped ahead. It's just a very small place that's best for groups of 2 or 3.

Real Food Daily is very popular and almost always full, though I don't think the food itself is exactly the cause for its popularity so much as the concept behind the food. The food can be a bit hit-or-miss, especially if soy milk and tempeh aren't for you, but the stuff that hits is awfully good, and healthy, too.

This is my absolute, favorite restaurant. I am a vegan and this place has the best mock "meats" I have ever had. Be wary of the chef's specials though.

Real Food Daily is a wonderful place for vegans and vegetarians to eat, but the price of the meal can easily creep up on you if you are not careful.
