After a tastefully remodeled Phillips Hotel reopened in 2002, the old lower-level dining room (known for much of the last century as the Sir Loin Room) was spiffed up and turned into a “fancy” all-you-can-eat venue — which bombed. A year later, the hotel returned the dining room to its steakhouse roots. It’s a much classier (and more expensive) affair, with entrées ranging from $22 to $38. The... more

I stayed for 2 days. I booked a room on priceline. My one complaint of the room was the tv screen facing perpendicular to the bed. If the bed was facing the tvI'd give it 5 stars. They probably gave me the "priceline" room so you might want to upgrade. The sink was unique, as was the lobby and the... more

Hotel Phillips Was A Quaint Hotel

The staff at the Hotel Philips made checking in quick and friendly. The ride up to the hotel room in cars that resemble the old Empire State Building elevators sets the mood in this hotel built in 1931 and renovated for $20M in 2001 (though it's kept its 30s charm). The Queen Superior room was smallish, but comfortable with slightly... more

I stayed at the Hotel Phillips for the second time this weekend and had another wonderful experience. The first time I booked this hotel, I was very impressed with the size and quality of the room. The beds have down comforters, the decor is great, and I love the faucets in the bathroom. I was a little nervous this time... more

I really enjoyed this place, very quiet and super comfy rooms. The staff was evry friendly and made you feel at home. The hotel had some unique room features and felt like a good pampering. The only bad thing was paying for parking and the calls for the internet were not free. I would recommend this place and hope for... more

The Hotel Phillips is our new favorite place to stay in Kansas City. I was surprised to read so many negative reviews of this hotel, because we found the hotel to be a special, one-of-a-kind experience. The hotel is in a beautifully restored Art Deco building with a memorable lobby: lots of dark wood, a grand staircase, a balcony, and... more

After reading the decidedly mixed reviews on this site, I felt compelled to write a rejoinder. I went down to Kansas City for a weekend out and was nothing but pleased with the attentiveness of the staff and the pretty hotel! This is a beautifully restored building, and there are little gems such as the crown molding, and the nicely... more

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Phillips for a weekend in June, 2004. Upon check-in, we thought this was going to be a great hotel. The lobby is stunning. We took the upgrade for a room, but when we got to the room..we had a hard time believing that the room was upgraded as it was very small.... more

A welcome change from bland chain hotels

This is a very nice boutique-type downtown hotel with charm, good service, and smartly appointed rooms done in a stylish art-deco style. The unusual fountain-like faucets are a treat, and the beds very comfortable. The restaurant is expensive, but the bar area has a reasonably-priced menu and often has live entertainment. A very pleasant stay.

My family stayed at Hotel Phillips while attending the National FWB Convention. This was a very nice hotel, although some amentities were limited. We had the "best" service we have had in any city we have been to the past dozen years. The staff was very courteous and friendly - always!!

Beautiful Building, Terrible Service

Though the building is indeed beautiful and the room was nice, the overall experience was very disappointing starting with misinformation from the hotel's cocierge about getting a shuttle to from the airport to the hotel causing me to spend an hour waiting in the hot sun at the airport for no good reason. Despite what the Phillips website leads you... more

This hotel is beautiful, the rooms are huge. We stayed in the Executive Suite, you cannot hear any noises from other rooms, the bathroom shower never runs out of hot water. The only downside is the parking. But we found that if you park after 530pm, there is a parking garage for 2 dollars, if your out by 8am. They... more

Parking is an additional $13+ USD per night's stay!! When I asked the concierge about this and why it wasn't disclosed upon reservation of the room he said "this is downtown Kansas City - everyone knows you have to pay for parking when your in downtown Kansas City!" Hello...everyone has a downtown (YOUR CITY HERE) and we have found more... more

We loved the Phillips! It's a beautiful old hotel that has been completely rehabbed. Because of its downtown location, where there is little open on the weekends, I would only recommend this hotel for weekend stay if you have a car. Was able to get a great price through Priceline.

We had a lovely weekend stay at the Hotel Phillips. The staff was wonderful, as was the room. The hotel has been beautifully restored. Keep in mind that we were without a car (but enjoy walking) when reading this review. If you want to be within walking distance of a shopping mall, this may not be the hotel for you.... more

We stayed at the Hotel Phillips two years ago (I would have posted a review sooner had I known it was available). I stayed at the Hotel Phillips for two nights for business, and the hotel was beautiful.
