In Short In this subterranean refuge, a luxurious tapestry-bedecked room buzzes with contented folks enjoying healthy, inventive Italian fare. Glittering starlets and industry hot shots lounge beneath folk-art paintings and hanging lamps that emit a subdued light to ensure everyone looks gorgeous. Salads and soups rotate, reflecting seasonal specialties, but Pace's mythical California-style ... more

I am a newly-wed and I wanted to try this restaurant for our anniversary. I never even got to ordering. Their attitude was too awful! We were the only ones in the restaurant and they head waiter would not allow us to sit next to each other because that would take up more room. Then he reconsidered and told us we could but only if we were out within an hour and a half. I don't know who they think they ... more

I love Pace and have eaten here many times over the years. Its quirky romantic ambiance, good food and service is always a draw. However, I finally had a meal there that was just so-so, and it was a $45 entree !! It was one of the specials and so not on the menu, but since the prices there are generally in the reasonable 20-something range I felt okay just ordering it without asking the price. ... more

My date wanted to go to Pace so instead of mentioning my previous bad experiences I said sure. We were seated right away, ordered water and waited and waited. Our server finally came and asked us if we were ready and we ordered a bottle of wine and said we would order our food in a minute. 20 mins later she took our order (and brought us real red wine glasses that we requested, the one's they have ... more

BEWARE!!!: Not Worth the Price

I am giving Pace 2 stars for 2 reasons. One - this place is WAY WAY overpriced for the quality and presentation on the food. Two - The service is very fast in a "can you please eat and move on sort of way." Our server was very nice and the atmosphere is lovely, but overall there are better places to go in LA for the price.

I've never had a reservation cancelled on me last minute by the actual restaurant but I guess there's always a 1st for everything.
Be aware that should you have a party of 6 between the hours of 7:30 pm and 9:00pm you are not welcomed at Pace'.
Made my reservations online at OpentableDOTcom for 8pm with no issue I get a call at 3pm telling me no groups between 7:30 and 9pm.

I used to go here for dinner all the time with fellow Laurel Canyon friends and now I drive by on my way home each day and feel saddened by the changed Pace. The prices have SKY ROCKETED. Shame on the establishment for once catering to a cool unique crowd and now charging a crazy place for a simple piece of salmon and salty pizza. Wow. Went to Pace last night for dinner, and while it was good, as it has been in the past, it is absolutely not worth the price. We brought our own bottle of wine, expecting a corkage fee, but $30?!? I'm sorry, but how do they justify that? My husband had the night's special pasta - which was also $30. $30 for a small plate of pasta? As previous commentators have mentioned too, $3.75 for one ... more

I've been here twice, and the food it always great. HOWEVER, the place is always way too packed...I think they must have a fire marshall on the payroll to get away with this crowding. What made our experience so TERRIBLE was that we had a reservation made a day in advance when we called to confirm a few hours prior to our seating. They told us we couldn't be seated for at least another half an ... more

We ordered from Pace from their on-line menu. The price of the chicken entree was $17.00 on-line and when the bill came it was $23.00. The manager refused to honor the price on the website and just said "they have to update it". We also ordered the pasta special which had truffles added, but they neglected to tell us that it was $45.00!!! This restaurant is a rip-off.

I went to Pace two years ago and was impressed. I went there again this month and was disappointed. The bread was good, and the pasta was good. A bit over priced but nice atmosphere. Disappointing was the fact the cake was $14.50 (and average) and a $1.50 was added for ice cream (a la mode) even though the cake was $14.50? Sorry, will the cheapskate running Pace just include the measly extra ... more

This restuarant is one of my absolute favorites. I have been here half a dozen times and it never fails to be less than excellent. The food is so good. The service is great and the atmosphere is perfect. It is tucked away in a charming building on Laurel Canyon. You definately do not feel like you are in LA. I wish there were more restaurants like Pace. The pizza is really really good.

Pace is elegant, romantic, warm, sophiticated and charming. It is hidden away in Laurel Canyon under the little convenient store. It's a true gem! Pace is owned by the same people who own the fabulous Cheebo on Sunset Blvd. But is a little more sophisticated and high end. The food is to die for. The steak will melt in your mouth. The salmon is cooked on a slab of cedar and the wines are all top of ... more

I wind up eating here a little more than I like, because it's close by and my girlfriend's favorite place. I really don't understand - it's in a basement, very loud, and too dark. I guess she likes the cozy feel. There is always interesting people watching, however. The service is pretty decent here - efficient, but not overly personable. You can tell they are always busy. I went back to Pace last week. The menu is smaller and more expensive than before. The wine list decreased and is pretty much restricted to expensive wines now. The service is OK. The place is still a nice spot for date/friend dinner.
But totally disappointing compared to what it was 8 months ago.

I took my boyfriend to Pace last week and was blown away by the experience. This is easily one of the best restaurants in LA. When I arrived my table was not ready. So I ordered a bottle of the Sangiovese. It was awesome. Only then we got our table.
I ordered the Wheeler Plate and minestrone. Best minestrone I've ever had. You don't get a 54 inch waist without trying a few soups along the way. The chopped salad was also great. When our entrees arrived, I did a double take. The wheeler plate was meat, rolled up ... more

The place was charming, i will give it that. Great lighting, very romantic, has an outdoor patio, but the food did not impress me. I got the chicken, which really, how can you screw up chicken, but it was dry and tasteless. Now, their side dishes of roasted roots and mashed potatoes, those were very flavorful.

A seemingly excellent venue seated comfortably in Laurel Canyon, the experience was far less than the nearly $100 tab for two. Pace offers little more than average Italian fare. While the specials offered more variety, getting our waiters attention was IMPOSSIBLE to say the least, despite a 10 pm reservation. We were treated with the kind of respect you expect from the DMV.
