In Short Located in downtown's vibrant Little Tokyo district, this Japanese style high-rise hotel offers the discerning business or pleasure traveler Japanese hospitality with a decidedly laid back California style. To those in the know, the hotel feels more like a large Western style hotel in Tokyo.

Japanese hospitality in Little Tokyo. Nice, but not on the scale of Kyoto's Miyako. Super-futuristic toilets and beyond plush beds give you the edge above the competition. Asian business travelers, plus westerners desperately seeking legitimate body rubs, simple spacious rooms, and communal spa bath. Traditional rules at the fun karaoke bar. If you dream it, you ryo-kan do it. Sashimi, sake,... more

Very nice Shiatsu style massage, calm interior, nice staff. I save parking expense by heading to a nail salon, Nail Service, which is only a few feet away for another 80 minutes treatment on hands and feet and get validation for free parking at Kajima building on San Pedro street.

Pros

+ nice massage, nice staff

Cons

- no parking validation

Overall, it was good, except the parking was $8 per day and I missed the complimentary shiatsu (my fault). The rooms are good quality for the price but avoid the breakfast buffet, it's overpriced and tastes barely edible.

Pros

+ good service, nice rooms

Cons

- parking

stayed here back in march, and while it's certainly not the swankiest of hotels, it's reasonably priced and there's a very nice spa inside the hotel. wasn't crowded at all, and for about $50-$60 i was able to use the steamroom, baths, and get a shiatsu massage during which--no joke--this 40-something japanese lady got on top of me and rocked back and forth, digging her knees into my back. i... more

I have stayed at the Miyako four times, and I enjoy it so much. The proximity to good Asian restaurants is a big plus. It is a walk if you want to use the subway, but you can take a DASH to Union Station and connect from there. I have always found the staff to be very kind, courteous, and... more

The hotel is quite overpriced. Position is good, but you pay for the internet, you pay for the parking because it's not free ... breakfast is not included. For all these reasons, i found this hotel expensive, even though the position is good and secure, and the hotel is clean and nice.

Stayed at the Miyako in February, for 11 days. Staff was as friendly as can be, everything was clean inside the hotel, the room was more than large enough for the both of us and complete with a large bed. People were always smiling and happy to help. Considering location Miyako may not be a quite as fortunate as other... more

Stayed here for business and found the hotel excellent. Located in Little Tokyo, it is perfectly located if you have business in downtown LA or surrounding areas (like Pasadena). Got a room rate of $109 on their web site and they upgraded me to the executive floor. Really didn't use the hotel except for sleeping, but the rooms were big... more

Little Tokyo is a great place to stay. Less expensive than other hotels in L.A., Miyako was a very nice hotel and we walked to dinner (the restaurants directly across the streets serve great Japanese diner food) and walked to lunch the next day (snacks, like takoyaki, on a stick inside the plaza area just a few paces from the hotel). Grocery shopping at Marukai (think great Japanese... more

The Miyako is one of those hotels not to many people seem to know about. I travel often to Los Angeles,30 weeks or more out of the year on business, and find my self trying new hotels all the time. This hotel has been consistent with every stay and is always a good place rest. The rooms are quiet, clean,... more

I won a bid for this hotel thru Priceline for $75/night. Most sites rate this hotel 3-star, Tripadvisor rate this 2-star. Hotel exterior looks old, but once you step in, it's a different story. The lobby is bright and clean and spacious. Parking was ~$20 per 24-hour. Its valet. I had a good experience, because they upgraded us to "Tokyo... more

Stayed there in a king size single room 1001. Top floor in the corner. Never heard a peep from anyone. Nice size, clean bathroom. The tv channel selections were the only downfall but hopefully you are not there for that. DVD player was also included. Attentive staff. Good room service. Across the street to a line of great asian restaurants.

I stayed there from 1-4-08 to 1-6-08, and I have to tell you this was my worse hotel experience. Outwardly, the New Miyako has a strong 80s aesthetic. Inside, the rooms are really clean and comfortable. There was even a bidet and a warmed toilet seat - very Japanese! I've not been here before, but a friend that lives near this hotel says it's a nice place. So I've got reservations there. Will give more details after my stay. Meanwhile, got a great price through Expedia (there's a link here, from VirtualTourist -- use it!). $75/night!
