In Short Upscale and sophisticated, this chain features art deco-inspired trappings such as dark wood, shiny brass and beveled glass. Servers clad in black and white weave through cocktailing couples and businessmen at the bar. The classic American, seasonally inspired seafood menu changes daily; specialties include starters of Dungeness crab cakes and oysters on the half shell, plus entrees ... more

I've been to this restaurant on three occassions now; twice with a group of 12 or more from work, and once with my wife for her birthday. I gave the restaurant three stars only because when I ate there on the two occassions with the group, my food was excellent and was well seasoned. When I ate their with my wife, my salmon was small and unseasoned. To be more specific, I ordered to salmon with ... more

My wife and I went here and ordered the fried oysters for an appetizer and then the tuna and crab cakes as our main courses. The food was certainly fresh but the preperation was fairly average. The fried oysters were too salty and the presentation wasn't great. The tuna was actually very good but for the price the portion was quite small. The crab cakes were ample and were probably the best item ... more

My wife and I almost decided on another restaurant by reading the negative reviews. We are so glad we ignored the negative and went with the positive reviews. The place is fantastic! Our waiter Skipper was the best waiter I have ever had in 4 decades of dining. The seafood and wine were excellent. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

The service at this restaurant was unbelievably bad. First, the restaurant made our reservation for the wrong day (My husband made the reservation for our anniversaty/v-day and was SURE of when he made it) Then, the people in line behind us said that they had their reservation for the wrong time! then when we ate and my food came, it was the wrong dish and there was no waitress or manager in sight ... more

Possibly the worst restaurant experience I have ever had in Philadelphia. In June I entertained 24 colleagues, including several important Canadian clients. The lobster was as tough as shoe leather, and was not served with drawn butter. We waited 30 minutes before someone took our drink order, and only after I tracked down a waitress. Dinner was cold when it finally showed up. One entre did not arrive ... more

went for lunch with my significant other and my parents. the decor was safe and reliable - nice with lots of mahogany and only a few subtle marine inspired elements, but cavernous. a little overwhelming large for a personal, not business lunch. also, seemed a little empty for lunch at 1:45. $15-20 entrees for lunch, but huge portions. fresh fish from interesting locales. my sole was a little boring ... more

Recently had the opportunity to take clients to McCormick & Schmick's. I'm not really one for the power suit/seen and be seen world so I was expecting to be disappointed. In truth we ended up having a very good time. I know it is known for its seafood but we all seemed to be in a steak mood and we all enjoyed our entrees. The meat was cooked perfectly, the service was friendly and quick, and the ... more

My husband and I walked in one night looking for a table and as we waited to get seated, one of the waiters passed me stating "Nice Legs!". I was mortified, and so were other patrons waiting to get seated. Luckily my husband was in the rest room, or the waiter would have found himself on the floor.
The hostess was incompetent and even though there were plenty of empty tables, she could not find one ... more

The Food Made Me Sick

This was the 2nd time I dined at M&S. We were there with 12 people. My sister and I both had the same dish. Later that night we both became violently ill from the food. No one else got sick but us. I was in the bathroom for hours that night. The next day I emailed them to let them know about our illness. I never heard anything back from them. I will probably never go back there. Plus their ... more

Though it was my first time dining at M&S, my expectations were high. Friends have raved about this place for years. M&S surpassed by expectations above and beyond. We had a wonderful assortment of appetizers, the oysters, I believe to be the best the city has to offer. The lobster was incredible---fresh and delicious. Service was wonderful, the wine list exceptional, and the scene was lively ... more

Mothers Day - 9people. I was blown away! Even packed, our table was ready when we walked in. Our knowledgable server Robert coudn't have been more perfect! Suggesting new things, we found new favorites! The halibut was grilled, topped with a tropical fruit salsa with wild rice/asparagus/shaved carrots. The wild king salmon was topped with an amazing mushroom sauce, laid on a bed of spinach with carmelized ... more

I had recently eaten at McCormick and Schmick's in Boston with a party of @ 30. It was excellent. This past weekend however, I was in Philadelphia and while walking in the city, I noticed the Philadelphia location. Dinner for two this time. To say that a place that offers about 25-30 different varieties of fresh fish and shelfish has no selection is ludicrous. I was there Saturday 7/30/2005 and received excellent service and top notch food. Monkfish was firm and lobster like, halibut was grilled just right and came with a great sauce. Jumbo prawn cocktail was excellent and the coconut shrimp was great because the breading/coconut ... more

Our table of 5 (arrived separately) had issues from the start - the hostess was dismissive to me (and I later learned that she was the same to most of us) and seemed surprised that I wanted to be sat. Our waitress was just as dismissive (even rolling her eyes when I asked for a T&T cocktail but smiled when my friend asked for Bombay). My second cocktail took 15 minutes to arrive. I have eaten here on 3 separate trips to Philly... the first time, my party of about 5 got excellent service.

The next two times, we had about 8 or 9 people. I understand a large group will be a challenge, but our service was horrible. I got the feeling that it wasn't important. We had somehow annoyed our server. It took over an hour to get our food the last time and the server didn't seem to care ... more

I stopped by recently for a drink while waiting for my hotel room to be prepared. I ordered a glass of Ravenswood Zinfandel from the bar. After requesting the check, I realize that it's $13/glass. This is the same wine that can be purchased in DE for $7.99/bottle! When I questioned the price, I was told that "this is center city". Well, Morton's is also in center city, and much better wine can ... more

Dinner Tuesday, November 18, 2003. Scallop entree. Cost $20. Scallops were overdone. Side vegetables were undercooked. Couldn't cut them with the dull table knife. Went to Mc&Sch during restaurant week in Philly. WHAT a disaster-from a know nothing waitress to overcooked fish & chips to a horribly sweet rasberry vinegarette on a overdone piece of broiled salmon - not WORTH the money, even during restaurant week!!! I went here with a party of 8. After ordering our waiter returned and told us some of the items we ordered were unavailable. which was odd since the hostess had recommended some of it.
