The term boutique hotel may conjure up images of quaint, country inns, but this 19-story, 483-room hotel is far from kitschy and rural. In fact, it is the epitome of urban luxury and style. The historic 1894 building is situated in the Theater District has Art Deco rooms that look straight out of a postmodern painting. The Cadillac Palace Theater is an appropriate neighbor for this music-themed hotel: witness the clefs on the shower curtains, a music room off the lobby, and the High Society -inspired watercolor mural by the lobby stairs at the entrance. A sizeable and posh hotel may seem like an unlikely place to register on a Chicagoan’s radar. The Hotel Allegro is, expectedly, a tourist haven, with its Magnificent Mile proximity, classy decor, and plentiful amenities. If you’re smart, you’ll take a cue from out-of-towners in this case.
