Wonderful Welcome to Des Moines

My husband and I attended a conference in Des Moines on October 6, 7, and 8. We stayed at the Holiday Inn. I'd never been to Des Moines, so I didn't know what to expect. Everyone on staff at the Holiday Inn Downtown was most welcoming and helpful. This made for a most pleasant stay. Our room was clean and...

Rough check in

Had a rough time checking into a room since I didn't have a reservation. Usually not an issue but the guy at the front didn't really understand customer service well and thankfully I powered through that awful experience to finally get to a room where I can always expect the holiday inn feel. Room and everything else was great, but...

I attended a conference at the downtown Holiday Inn last week. I had lunch at the buffet in the restaurant. The food was fresh even though I didn't get there until about 12:45. What impressed me though was the friendliness of the lady who waited on me. She was attentive and had a big smile. Her attitude would cause me...

Very nice location. Parking was a little tight but they do have an underground garage which was nice.
Room service was good. Very delicious food!
Rooms and hallways could use a little updating....the bathroom was really small, and there was not a lot of room to get ready in the mornings. The walls are also paper thin, but it is...

In town for a girl's weekend for a concert. This hotel is located five blocks from the Wells Fargo Arena which makes it an excellent place to stay when in DM for a concert! If the weather's not right for walking, the front desk is quick to offer their shuttle. (I regret not catching the name of the gentleman who...

We had arrived around 10pm to stay for the weekend for a church conference at the arena. Our prepaid reservations were not in the system due to Expedia operator putting in the wrong dates. The hotel is right off the 235. Make sure you ask for a room not facing the 235. It is pretty loud all hours of the day and night. Rooms are good sized but need some updating. Internet is super slow. We arrived in Des Moines around 10pm and tried to find some food. It started raining really hard (so hard you couldn't see) so we called the hotel to see if they would have room service available. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Downtown Des Moines the Friday night before Labor Day. I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews but I figured it was only for one night. The Holiday Inn was much better than expected. The location was great and it offered wonderful amenities. I was surprised at the cleanliness, friendliness of the staff, modern day rooms and the bar. Due to the annual Farm Progress Show, somewhere around 50,000 to 100,000 people came to the DSM area, which meant hotels were GONE. We only spent one night here, and I'm glad. The room was average, had old decor and chipped bathroom fixtures, and was not what I would consider a room worth over $100 a night. The only thing going for it was the location, and the little bag of snacks we got at check-in. I had requested a wheelchair accessible room...

We stayed in the hotel overnight and had both dinner and breakfast at Genevieve's, which is being renamed Cityscape. The food at dinner was very good. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and done the way I wanted it, and both it and the dip sandwich were enough to fill us up, and the coleslaw was very good, although the portion...

This IHG should be higher in city rank on Trip Advisor.
Nice stay. The staff makes the difference here. They are under going renovations and so far it looks like it will be very nice when complete.
They are also doing a excellent job of keeping everything clean and tidy during the transformation.
Convenient location right off highway in downtown....

We recently stayed for one night in a king sofa room. The room was average in its décor but nice and large. The bed and bedding were very comfortable, especially the pillows. The walls were a bit thin, kind of noisy in the morning.

We stayed at this hotel while attending a seminar at the Mercy hospital. The shuttle promptly picked us up from the airport and the staff members were very efficient. The front desk staff especially Tramaine (sp) were very helpful. We had a very early flight (6am) and the hotel shuttle took us to the airport at 4am per our request....

Mercy Campus - really hard to tell, but one of my kids has bites all over her shoulders and body. It started after our stay at this hotel on 8/3. I did not see any bugs, but may have overlook in our check.

On July 26, 2012, I stayed at the Holiday Inn Downtown Des MOines. When I woke up on Monday morning I turned on the light and got out of bed and saw a bug crawling across the bed. I grabbed it and killed it. It was hard to kill and I thought it was a tick. I then wondered if it was a bed bug and I looked it up on the internet and it was a perfect match. I took the bug and showed it to the front...

In response to the bed bug encounter from room 716, The Holiday Inn Downton had their pest inpection company come in and inspect the room upon her departure and they did not find any signs of bed bugs in that room. The Holiday Inn Downtown take this issue very seriously has is taking all the necessary precautions to prevent bed bugs in the hotel.

Room 716 was infested with bedbugs. I stayed in this room from Oct. 7-10. I am covered in welts and scratching myself to death. At first I thought it was an allergic reaction to something. I am terrified I brought them home with me. I reported bed bugs to the front desk at my departure. I also called the day before my departure to ask if there had been any reports of bed bugs and was assured...

If you're unlucky enough to be stuck in downtown Des Moines (it's actually not that bad), this is a great location to stay. There are numerous bars and restaurants within walking distance and we paid less than $75 for our room.
