Nice Business Respite

Available and assisting staff. Clean and comfortable...large....bedroom (especially those by elevator). Not sure about all floors, but nearly all rooms on the floor we stayed on adjoined, both sides in each room. Bed was comfortable and chair/sofa were relaxing. Convenient desk allowed to comfortably finish days programming and notes. Nice TV, though did not use. Only small complaint was a...

Worn Out Holiday Inn

Sometimes Des Moines suffers from a lack of rooms, and when you have to book at the last minute, this is what is available - here's why. Rooms are outdated and worn, location is not really downtown, place just feels worn out. The breakfast was pretty bad too. Sorry Holiday Inn, but you need to put some money into this...

It was very close to downtown\n\nThe walls were very thin and you can hear everything going on in other rooms and in the hallways. A person in another room started smoking a cigarette and the smoke came through our vent and made our room stink like smoke. Loud traffic as well.

The room\n\nI hate Priceline. Your customer service staff are liars and not helpful. The website said noon checkout. I called Priceline 4 times and was told it was fixed with the front desk staff. The next morning housekeeping was knocking on the door at 11am.\n\nPriceline would not help or do anything. The front desk kept saying checkout was 11am and not noon. They also said nobody from...

It's convenient to the highway--although so close it's loud. Pretty nice bar. Clean and friendly.\n\nThe heating/cooling system can only be one or the other. Our room was roasting with no way to cool it down. We were able to change to a room that might work better (less noise so we might open window). were told it would be a queen bed but was only double

I stayed here for business on March 3-4, 2014. The ride from the Des Moines Airport is about 12-15 minutes.

Flip this Hotel Holiday Inn

I travel a lot and although a card carrying member for IHG, I will not be back to this property until it gets flipped. While the lobby, et al look nice and are inviting, it ends there. They go through a lot of Fabreeze here and it still does not mask the stench of cigarettes. C'mon Holiday Inn -- flip...

Just plain filthy dirty

Our non-smoking room reeked of cigarette smoke. When asked if we could have another room, we were told that this room was all they had available. Was in Des Moines for the weekend with my 13 year old son for his basketball tourney. I ALWAYS request non-smoking rooms. Room sucked due to the smell of the smoke. The lobby area...

Left for better service and cleaner pastures

We really wanted to like the hotel. I swear we did. We were very excited to have booked a downtown hotel at a reasonable rate. It had been 24 hours since we'd seen anything but the inside of a car or a gas station. So, we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best.

Just ok and some pet peeves

Well it all stated when the shuttle service told me that I had to wait 25 minutes even though the hotel was only 25 minutes away. 50 minutes later I was picked up and found out that the shuttle was an suv and can take any guest anywhere within the 2 mule radius and it was first come first serve...

Lobby newly updated a remodled. Rooms are outdated and average. Nothing special. Pool is outdated and cold. The pool room was very cold and uncomfortable when normally they are balmy and humid. Excellent staff. We had two minor issues with room that we're addressed within minutes. The location to downtown was good.\n\nThe hotel had a quiet side and a loud side, because of freeway, that the front desk clerk did inform us about. The lobby was newly remodeled so you walk in expected an updated and modern room, not the case. The rooms aren't dirty or anything, they are just outdated. Room was average, noisy, and nothing stood out in a positive way

We only spent one night here, and I'm glad. The room was average, had old decor and chipped bathroom fixtures, and was not what I would consider a room worth over $100 a night. I've Stayed here many times on business the past seven years. Always a great stay. Last night we attended a wedding reception on the top Tower floor. Everything was first class! Pork loin dinner was superb! The speed at the way the meal was served was amazing! One of the servers I recognized from normally working mornings in the restaurant....

Lobby, restaurant and bar are wonderfully refurbished and updated...rooms are less than acceptable

The hotel, overall, isn't worth staying at until they finish the renovations (hopefully the rooms and hallways are next). The bar, restaurant and lobby are very nice - clean lines, nice decor, modern and well maintained. The room was the polar opposite. I stayed in a junior suite with a king bed. The bed was okay, the carpet is old,...

Recently stayed here for a soccer tournament after we had to leave the Holiday Inn Des Moines Northwest because they oversold their rooms. This is a recent,y remodeled hotel that is nice for a Holiday Inn. Alicia at the front desk was excellent in checking our team in and is an asset to this property. The main level is new...

I spent two nights at the Holiday Inn in downtown Des Moines. I was a bit cautious given some of the reviews I had read online. But, it was convenient to where I needed to be and the room rate was attractive. My experience was actually fairly good. The room was clean and comfortable. The check-in was quick and the...

Stayed here for a big soccer tournament. Rooms were adequate. Bathrooms are very small and have paper thin walls. The restaurant downstairs "Genivieves" is on restaraunt.com so check that out for a discount. Front desk staff hustled and worked pretty well with our large group. The restaurant was good for breakfast, but the bar staff was incredibly pushy.
Beds were...

Stayed here for soccer tournament..room air conditioning did not work. Alerted front desk, but nothing was done. Bathroom is tiny. Beds were adequate, but not great by any means. Fitness center had no sani-wipes for equipment-could see oil/smudges from previous users. No continental breakfast-only overpriced on site restaurant. For $130/night...go to the Drury!!

Mercy Campus - really hard to tell, but one of my kids has bites all over her shoulders and body. It started after our stay at this hotel on 8/3. I did not see any bugs, but may have overlook in our check.

On July 26, 2012, I stayed at the Holiday Inn Downtown Des MOines. When I woke up on Monday morning I turned on the light and got out of bed and saw a bug crawling across the bed. I grabbed it and killed it. It was hard to kill and I thought it was a tick. I then wondered if it was a bed bug and I looked it up on the internet and it was a perfect match. I took the bug and showed it to the front...

In response to the bed bug encounter from room 716, The Holiday Inn Downton had their pest inpection company come in and inspect the room upon her departure and they did not find any signs of bed bugs in that room. The Holiday Inn Downtown take this issue very seriously has is taking all the necessary precautions to prevent bed bugs in the hotel.

If you're unlucky enough to be stuck in downtown Des Moines (it's actually not that bad), this is a great location to stay. There are numerous bars and restaurants within walking distance and we paid less than $75 for our room.
