The name is derived from the vast collection of plates from around the world that line the walls. That and other memorabilia, as well as a good menu of sandwiches and other light fare, give the Saucer a quaint pub feel. But make no mistake, this is a beer joint. With 85 drafts flowing from taps and another 130 in bottles, you could make a career out of this place. For a quick primer, try a... more

The Scene More like a trendy San Francisco pub than a Houston hang, it exudes aggressive-yet-genuine cool. Belly up to a long bar, nuzzle against a table, nestle on a comfy couch or perch upstairs in the Pub of Love. Pierced and dreadlocked bohemians recline comfortably upon weathered sofas, while buttoned-down frat alumni take to the tables, all in peaceful coexistence. The... more

Tons of beers on tap and the chill atmosphere make this a great place for bohemians and ex-frat boys alike to spend a laid back yet fun night out.

When bike messengers hang out at a bar in conventional cities like New York and San Francisco, it acquires a certain cachet. It's hard to know what to make of the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium's popularity with delivery guys. Houston isn't a conventional city, and the Flying Saucer is not a beloved local institution but a 21st century chain.

Maybe bike messengers and others come for the... more

If you like beer, you're gonna love Flying Saucer. To start, it's a great, laid-back atmosphere where you can be you! And then comes the good part - oh, all the beer. The only difficult thing is that there are so many to choose from you may not know where to start. But that's OK - the staff is great at helping you narrow it down. Still not sure - then simply request a quick sample. To be... more

I have recently fallen in love with beer and can't get enough! Flying Saucer has more beers than you can imagine. There are a few good ones they don't carry, such as Hoegarden, due to the distributers they use, but noone can beat them in selection. Everyday there is a $2.75 Fire Sale. On Thursday it is Tub 'O Mystery. This is cool because it essentially forces you to try something new. If you... more

guy. He wouldn't leave me alone, he kept waiving and sending me beers, which i didn't accept. But what PISED ME OFF, was that I asked the manager to make him stop, because he was being annoying, and he told me it was a free world and if I had a problem I could leave. SO I left and never come back.

I am a huge fan of the Flying Saucer chain and I have been to many of it?s locations.

The food has definitely jumped up in quality recently with the new menu. The Bratzle is freaking awesome! A sliced up Bratwurst on top of a giant doughy pretzel with Guyre cheese melted all over it.

First of all, the selection is truly impressive. However, I would not go there with a crowd larger than 3, MAYBE 4--you'll NEVER find a place to sit. Also, it HAS to be against firecode to have as many people crammed in as they do. The service is, at best, ok. It's hard to get anyone's attention, and I wouldn't go there unless I had a good 2.5-3+ hours to spend there. It's definitely not a... more

Where to start? The place is big, has a cool look despite the bright lighting, and the whole wall of taps and beer club are pretty cool assets. We sat at the bar, took 2-3 minutes and ordered some beers. All of our beers were not cold enough. They weren't quite warm, but the carbonation just wrong! It's either the temperature, a bad keg, or a bad pouring technique. Either way I wasn't... more

Downtown has had a downhill slide, but the Saucer still has a great crowd, especially on Thursday and Friday nights. It's large so you can have a big group. It gets pretty loud, but the seating upstairs is a little more tame for those who have bad hearing!

The Flying Saucer was an awsome beer joint. The selcection was outstanding and our "Beer Goddess" was more than willing to help find a beer that suited our tastes. It is a filty bar. The restrooms need to be cleaned more than once a week and with soap. While the wait staff is barely dressed believe me you will not want to stare at them too long. The management is poor and lack experience. Over all I would not recommend this place to anyone. I truly hated it.
