In Short Vacationing in Durham? Probably not. But that's the beauty of the Marriott: The light-filled lobby and cozy rooms will tempt even the most business-minded guest to bounce on a bed or two. The executive work areas--which consist of a desk and a two-line speaker telephone with voice mail and data port--make it possible to stay on top of business duties when not at the office. Prior to checking out of my room at the Civic Center-Mariott hotel in Durham, North Carolina, I took off my engagement ring and left it on the bathroom counter to wash my hands; I had started to put on lotion, but was interrupted by a maid knocking on my door, to clean. I grabbed my suitcase and headed out, but left my ring on the counter, a couple of hours later I realized this and rushed... more

In order to be close to the Carolina Theatre for a concert, I chose the Durham Civic Center Marriott for my one-night stay. It was a fine choice. The former Omni has been renovated (in fact they're still working on some of the rooms, but it wasn't intrusive) with considerably more flair than your standard generic chain hotel usually puts into it. Everything was good--the room service breakfast, the bar drinks, the staff, the bed--and the value was exceptional. We never felt overcharged, which is rare with downtown... more

Location isn't a huge benefit to this hotel, given the state of Durham, (being a town that's a bit blighted and behind the times). However, the hotel is a jewel in these surroundings. Modern room furnishings, a great restaurant/bar, and full-service hotel touches made my stay better than average here. The valet parking is useful, given that the parking is... more

Nice Weekend Stay in Downtown Durham

We stayed at the downtown Durham Marriott in December 2007, while our daughter was performing in the TYB Nutcracker at the Carolina Theatre. We had two adjoining rooms, one with a king and the other with two queens. The staff was wonderful! Our bellman was extremely helpful with unloading our car and parking across the street. Any time we needed... more

This hotel is nice but average. The service is excellent the rooms are pretty standard. The restaurant downstairs is pretty pricey and there is no gym on the property. From the moment I checked in, it was a great experience. When traveling on business, a hotel is most valuable when it makes you feel at home, even in an uncomfortable, hectic environment. They did just that. From the doormen to the concierge desk to the lounge attendants, they were fantastic. I would definitely stay here again, even if it meant driving out of my way.

Dated Rooms, nice staff

We booked stay on priceline for $51 a night, so quite a deal. But rooms were old as were bathrooms. New beds and TV. They said redoing in a few months. Parking was across the street. The YMCA was very nice and about a block away- gave free passes at front desk. The Carolina Theater was accessible from the hotel-... more

The hotel was very nice inside, staff was friendly, and the room was clean. I was lucky enough to get a corner room on the 4th floor with 2 walls of windows, but unfortunately, Raleigh is not much to look at. Beautiful hotel with first class service. Friendly employees. Perfectly clean room with the MOST comfortable beds we have ever slept on. A one night stay on our way to the beach, but a very pleasant surprise. Durham's downtown is in a redevelopment transition, but the Marriott stands out as a first class hotel in an otherwise empty part of the small downtown. Large, quiet, well furnished and very comfortable rooms, an exceptionally helpful and friendly staff and two restaurants on site.... more

Nice hotel. Clean facilities. Pleasant and helpful staff. Use of pool at yucca across the street. Free, easily accessible parking. Can valet for $10 if desired. Bed/bedding was comfortable and upscale. Otherwise furnishings were standard mid-range hotel fare.

The hotel was perfect for my purpose. I had gone there to visit Duke University and it was literally down the road for the college. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I requested an extended check out time and was given so without hesitation. I would have liked to have a microwave and refrigerator in the room, but other than that, it was a great place to stay.

The hotel was fine, although a bit difficult to get to and parking is an issue unless you use valet. The biker group ruined the stay for us. I got very little sleep as this group was screaming in the halls and slamming doors to as late as 4:00 am. Several calls were made to the front desk, but no remedy. Very disappointing!

Overall, I was impressed. The room was nice, bed comfortable, and shower pleasant. However, it was difficult to get to, parking lot was distanced from hotel, lobby was crowded, and construction began at 7:00 am. ItÂżs easy to pick out bad things when I was overall so pleased with my stay there. I would certainly go back as the staff were extremely friendly and helpful even at 11:30 pm.

Comfy beds, fluffy pillows, nice thread count all make the sleeping experience fantastic. The bath products were nicely presented and ample, so in the hotel, I was comfortable and happy. However, upon leaving, I found it difficult to find and get information from staff....directions and maps were scarce in a place where ultimately it is not very hard to navigate.

Continues to meet or exceed expectations from Marriott. Always a very comfortable bed and linens. Friendly, respectful and helpful staff. The parking was a little inconvenient as you had to cross a street drive down a driveway and enter a card enabled parking lot. The location was confusing to get around and there aren't any shops nearby. Neighborhood a little dicy. Easy to get lost.

Hotel is in troubled downtown Durham area - lots of boarded up homes and vacant storefronts. Hotel parking 2 blocks from hotel. We were approached by a vagrant asking for money once we exited our car. Very desolate area. Would not recommend anyone stay there.
