Help us make it right
My pug was very sick, and the Dr. took time to research dietary supplements that would help and did not rush us.
The day my pug was dying, I called early (the Dr. had given me his cell #) he called me back. He assured me I was doing the right thing to put him to sleep.I was a wreck so this was compassionate.
He really cares and takes his work seriously. He has a passion for what he does, which is rare.
Highly recommend. Plus Lola the greeter is the best!
After trying tons of vets in the city, I finally found one I like. Not only is Dr. Gagliardi friendly and warm, he's not trying to get you to take out a second mortgage to pay for unnecessary tests or treatment. He's intelligent, up to speed on recent medical developments in the field, kind and straight to the point. Aside from his good practice, the facilities are nice, convenient, clean and comfortable. I wouldn't think twice about bringing another pet under his care.
Weirdly enough I still use this as my primary clinic for my pets. Call me crazy but it's more lazy than anything else. The owner, and usually only doctor on staff, Dr Gagliardi, is a very socially…
I agree, Dr. G does not have the best bedside manner. He is a bit awkward and can be harsh with his assistants. I've experienced both good and bad with him. But overall, he is very thorough! He…
I have 2 ancient wiener dogs (one is 19 years old, the other is 16). Their health is very good, but they only get there with good veterinary care--and I don't care if their veterinarian is softspoken…
As a pet owner for many years, I've experienced various quality of service provided at Veterinary Hospitals, That said, I would NEVER bring my pet to Cooper Square Veterinary Hospital in NYC. The main veterinarian here, Dr Gagliardi is plain awful! He has absolutely NO bedside manners, communicates to you as if he is all knowing as he dismisses your inputs, he does not have much eye contact when he talks to you, he does not provide you with options as it pertains to your pet's care, boasts that he provided you with discounts, he is excessively arrogant, and the list goes on. It takes...
When I first walked into this place, I was impressed by the decor and the fact that the place was busy with other clients. Made an appt on came here with my 8 week old puppy for all his shots. Dr. G…
Dr. Gagliardi and his staff have been so wonderful to me and my puppy. They have answered all my new owner questions, made time on their calendar immediately when she caught a cold and encourage calling with any questions anytime. I could not have found a better vet and staff to help me raise the pup. I would recommend this practice to any pet owner in the downtown area. You are in good hands.
I recently stopped by the office to get a quote and the neuter and spaying of my new Tonkinese Kittens. I was told the docotor was not available and If I would leave my reach info he would get back to…
I just have to say, I am so happy I switched vets. I could not be happier with Dr. G. My dog has been sick for almost two months now and we've run so many tests to come up with nothing. From the…
My girlfriend has been taking our pet to this location on and off for a little over 3 years, but only because its so close to home. I attended a visit once but never again. The owner, Dr. Gagliardi, was extremely unfriendly and had an air of annoyance with us. At the end of our visit, which lasted roughly 3 hours and most was spent in the lobby waiting to be seen, we were rushed out as I heard him mentioning he was late for his trainer. From my first encounter, I've never wanted to go back and always try to get my girlfriend to take our pet elsewhere if possible. Im writing this review...
Best Vet!
I moved to the neighborhood earlier this year and needed a new vet and I feel SOO thankful to have found Dr. Gagliardi!
He and his staff are extremely caring, thorough and attentive. I trust their judgment and care without exception.
My dog was extremely sick after hours and Dr. Gagliardi came in on a Sunday morning to take X-rays and look him over, not wanting to jeopardize his health by waiting another day. His dedication is such a rare treasure.
He is also extremely sensitive to the costs of animal care and doesn't nickel and dime you for every test or procedure.
It's...
I have been going to this vet for 4 years, and even thought I now live 60 blocks away I would never switch vets! They are so kind and knowledgable there and extremely helpful. I have called at odd hours with questions and concerns and they always return my calls and put me at ease despite the hour or the ridiculousness of the issue! Dr Gagliardi is fantastic!
We were new to the neighborhood, so we looked for the closest vet we could find. What we found was an experienced, dedicated, caring, and knowledgable veterinarian. Dr. John Gagliardi may not be ""Dr. Bedside Manner"", but John came to our house at 11 pm in a pouring rain because our cat had a problem. He then went back to the hospital, forgetting his umbrella at our apartment, to bring back what was needed. And we had only been clients for one week.
John is very devoted to his work and to the animals and goes out of his way when necessary to help a sick or injured animal.
In the...
Here is what I look for in a vet: consistent, intelligent, practical, compassionate care for my animal, accommodation of my schedule and urgent care when my pet is sick.
I've been taking my Boston Terrier to Dr. G since adoption, and he excels at all of these criteria.
It is interesting that the reviews are so hot and cold - without question Dr. G is an animal person first and foremost, and in his interaction with people he is frank and direct and doesn't suffer fools. He and I get on quite nicely, which given the quality of care he gives my dog, is icing on the cake.
Dr. Gagliardi has taken care of my dogs since he opened Cooper Square Vet in 2003. He has always made the right diagnosis (one of my dogs has several serious health conditions) and has always been great at following up if I'm treating a dog at home, checking to see that the dog is recovering as he or she should. He always thoroughly explains the condition, the treatment, and what to look for in terms of progress or a lack thereof.
I have always found that he puts my dogs' health above all else, and I've always had positive experiences with him. He's efficient and thorough and my dogs...
I would give 0 stars if i could.
John Gagliardi treats his staff like S&^*! It is very telling of someone the way the boss treats their employees and I would hate to work for someone that talks down to me the way he does. It would make for a miserable work environment which it clearly does since they go through staff really quickly.
I used to bring my 2 dogs there. At the time he opened my dog had cancer and there were not that many vets in the neighborhood so i was feeling a bit desperate. We went for regular visits ever year including the surgery. I don't know why i couldn't get the...
Ive been going to this veterinary office on and off for several years now, only because its so close to home. Unfortunately Ive witness too many occasions of disrepect from the owner/main male doctor to his clients as well as his staff.
If you dont heed my warning be prepared for the following: 1) you will wait to be seen. Ive waited 30 minutes, 1 hour, and at one point close to 2 hours! But...
This is the best vet me and my dog have ever been to. They are so kind and gentle with the animals. I am also shocked that there are negative reviews of this place. The doctor and his assistant were…
im pretty surprised at any negative reviews! they have been nothing but amazing to my little Miss Nala! : ) they told me everything i need to know about having a new "baby" plus its was a wee bit…
This review is about Dr. Gagliardi (the vet at this practice). I have to say I was very, very disappointed in the visit. You likely don't need to know more than this one quote he said to me, in the…
Anybody else feel terrible for Ben, one of the assistants? I swear each time I visit, he's being being yelled at. "Ben, Come here!" "Ben, what are you doing?" "Ben, where are you?" It's pretty…
I have been a pet owner for over 30 years. This doesn’t make me an expert on vets, but it has given me some experience with a number of them. The absolute worst one I ever encountered was Dr. John Gagliardi of Cooper Square Veterinary Hospital on east 5th Street.\r
\r
I had taken my cat to Cooper Square the year before and she was seen by a female vet - I regret I do not remember her name - who was great, as was the staff. Apparently, she was just there for a short time. \r

We acquired a second cat since then and I made an appointment to have both checked. This was my first...
The absolute WORST vet's office I have ever been to. Dr. John Gagliardi is extremely unprofessional and even engaged in a screaming match with the receptionist on my last visit. He does not seem to…
There really aren't enough words to explain how amazing of a vet Dr. G is. I take many of my foster dogs here and no matter how many other people have given up on the little buggers Dr. G never will.…
My mini doxie will be turning 6 this summer and I must confess that her good health & my sanity as a pet parent are largely due to the terrific care and compassion that I've received from John & his…
Let me start off by saying that I'm only writing this comment about the Vet John Gagliardi, the rest of the staff appeared cordial enough. I initially went here because the place that we purchased…
We just relocated here and needed to establish a vet for our geriatric pug. We were also doubly worried because he hadn't been acting himself and had gotten sick the day before our appointment. We had…
John Gagliardi is a great vet.He really cares about animals and has been great with my dog.Highly recommended.
The system wouldn't allow me to respond to Zorro's post so I will in this space. Zorro, the Humane Society is a not for profit agency & receives donations in order for it to offer discounted rates. Cooper Square Vet is an independently owned business which accounts for the difference in the fees you were quoted. Dr. John Gagliardi at Cooper Sq. Vet is an extremely compassionate vet and he also...

I adopted a feral orange tabby and was in love at first sight. I was told she has been ""fixed"". After about two nights she began having a ""heat"" cycle and I could not figure what was going on. After going to 3 vets, I was recommended John as ""the best vet in the city"". After he gave my cat a checkup he recommended a ""specialist"" and after a slight ""redo"" my kitty is a beautiful loving kittycat. What struck me as amazing was John's warm bedside approach. A very thoughtful and practical problem solver. He helps to improve the well being of an animal which shows his LOVE for them. I...
