sharable meal

Review Rating
Go here for small plates that you want to share with friends.

I don't recommend it for groups larger than 6 people. It's loud there as it is. When you have more than 6 people, you'll never hear each other.

Also, it's BYOB. If you forget to bring a bottle of wine to go with the meal, pick one up next door, where the selection is good, but a little more expensive than other places.

Finally, make a reservation. The wait can be agonizing. (Though, if you don't want to drink and you're comfortable sitting outside, I noticed you can usually snag a seat pretty quickly at one of the sidewalk tables.)

Tasty Tapas

Review Rating
Cobras and Matadors has both a formidable wine list and about 30 kinds of delicious tapas. The food includes basic Spanish fare as well as some local angeleno tastes, like churros for dessert. Basically, if you like serrano ham, olives and wine, this is the place for you. Cobras and Matadors has nearby street parking. It's good for a romantic evening or a meal with friends, but probably wouldn't be an enjoyable place for young children.

A cobra could easily go undetected in this dark, moody Spanish tapas
restaurant. The noise level is always at a roar, but the cool kids keep
flocking for delectable small plates such as patatas fritas, skirt
steak and roasted game hen. This Los Feliz location boasts a bar thats always crowded, while the smaller WeHo location is BYOB.

You know the cooler-than-thou indie starlet that everyone's hot for, even though they're not sure why? Well, the Cobras restaurants are the culinary equivalent. Yes, it's got decent food, though nowhere near what you'll find in Spain. Yes, it's got the tapas thing going -- small portions, so you can have six dishes instead of the customary two. Yes, the dramatic lighting and Spanish city-slicker theme ... more

Steven Arroyo's former Los Feliz steakhouse has blossomed into another unpretentious tapas spot. The Hillmont had its fans, but owner Steven Arroyo felt it was time for a change. His other Cobras & Matadors (located on Beverly Boulevard, near The Grove) is a surefire hotspot, and his other tapas restaurant, Cobra Lily, is equally jam-packed any night of the week, so he's definitely onto something. ... more

In Short Westside tapas king Steve Arroyo (the original Cobras & Matadors, Cobra Lily) applied the small-plates concept to his former steakhouse. The menu isn't the only thing transformed; new decor includes jewel-toned accents and vintage photos, a contrast to Hillmont, where the vibe was more industrial-chic. The tapas-style offerings are enhanced by Mediterranean-influenced entrees. Unlike ... more

Weekends, the bar at the new Cobras & Matadors in Los Feliz is six deep. And outside, groups of friends queue up under the scrawl of red neon that spells out the name, or crowd the podium at the front in hopes of a table. You don't need to know the address to realize the Spanish tapas bar is on the east side of L.A. Look at the crowd. Not a recognizable designer label in evidence. The women don ... more

We always have a great time here, our all time favorites are the bacon wrapped prawns, sweet potato fries, bacon wrapper figs, steak very tender, and cooked to perfection, and asparagus dish with nuts. Great Sangria, gets to you pretty quickly. The pace is very busy; therefore, I would recommend reservations in advance. We always sit in the area of our favorite waiter, Anthony. But! I've never gone there and not had something intensely entertaining happen at a nearby table. From excessively shiny girls taking pictures of each other to an awkward (and failed) marriage proposal--this place has got it all. The food? Fine, but should be about 20% cheaper. The wine selection is good, but overpriced. And sometimes the corners smell of ant spray. But, again: the people watching ... more

I was SO excited to try Cobras and Matadors. I love tapas, it's one of my absolute favorite foods, and I had yet to find a good tapas restaurant in LA.Unfortunately, I am still looking for a good tapas restaurant in LA because this was not it.
