The Camino Real Hotel is a national historical landmark built in 1912. Adjacent to the lobby, the Dome Bar is crowned by the original Tiffany Dome. The Dome Bar is the original lobby of the hotel and you won*t want to miss the two story vaulted ceiling with wall of cherry stone and gold scallion. The hotel is the ultimate in luxury and has been El Paso's grand hotel for 90 years.

El Paso's finest hotel -- and one of a handful downtown -- is the only Camino Real hotel or resort outside of Mexico. However, it's just 6 blocks north of the border, adjacent to the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center and within easy walking distance of all of the downtown attractions. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel effortlessly meshes El Paso's past... more

I spent a weekend bumming around Texas. I made it as far as El Paso the first night. The Mexican influence is quite obvious. For nightlife you have Cincinnati St and Lee Trevino Blvd. Both are at opposite ends of the city. I'm sure you can find a hotel cheaper in the general area but the next time I stay in El Paso it'll be here. Old hotel done up very nicely. You feel as if you... more

After checking into our first room at this hotel, we asked the front desk for a different room with more natural light. They couldn't have been nicer about this and moved us to a corner room on a higher floor with tons of light.

I wouldn't recommend the food at the bar though. I thought it was overpriced and average. The drinks were good...just didn't get many good reviews from friends on... more

I'm sorry, but the rooms are awful. The lobby and lobby bar is beautiful which is very misleading. Front desk staff are consistently slow, barely friendly and unhelpful. I had to change rooms because the air conditioning did not work. Then in the second room, the air still did not work. The linens smelled old as did the pillows. The... more

I stayed while traveling on business recently. Mixed Bag--Has A Ways To Go

Mixed bag. On one hand, the common areas are nice, and the staff tries extremely hard to approximate the service of a first-class hotel. But my room was dingy-to-the-max: smelled musty, peeling wallpaper, rust in bathroom fixtures, and a TV with the worst quality picture I have had in a motel room (including Days Inn and Motel 6) in 20... more

I stayed here with a group of friends doing a road trip around Arizona, Texas and New Mexico. As promised, all the rooms were refurbished, and after a bit of negotiation we... more

I must admit I was more than a little nervous about checking into this hotel after reading some of the reviews on this site. I stayed here last night after booking it last minute on Hotwire due to business plan changes. What a nice surprise. My room was fine -- nothing to write home about, but a comfortable bed, better than average toiletries, good carpet and furniture. The common areas downstairs are really wonderful, though, and I wish I'd gotten there earlier to enjoy... more

We were surprised by the luxury for a $110 2 x Queen-bed room. We made some good friends with locals and staff in the Dome Bar. Not your standard hotel chain and a very nice choice in downtown El Paso. Especially at a $114./ night meeting rate. This hotel is part of a Mexican chain and it their only US location (by just a few blocks). It has a vaguely Colonial Mexico feel. The hotel and downtown location was very quiet, even with windows open. Artwork... more

Don't believe the management's responses

The hotel's downstairs common areas are compelling. The desk staff was nice. I took a dekko at the pool. It's upstairs and outside, which should be fun. But it turns out to be mean. I'm a little hesitant to write this review, since the management seems to respond to all negative reviews about experiences similar to mine. I don't especially... more

I travel about 50-60 nights per year. I've stayed in over 150 different hotels. Out of that number, this hotel would rank somewhere between 140 to 145. Loud until 1:45 a.m. Poor service the entire stay. Bellmen were good, though.

This hotel was just spectacular, it really caught my eye, and you could say this is the nicest hotel in El Paso. It has perfect location! across the street from the Museum of Art, Insights Museum, the Convention Center. If you don't like that Artsy style, you can go up to Cinncinatti St, where Night Life is incredible.

It is a nice location, with a charm and historic atmosphere. It was a pleasant stay in a large room. The staff overcame difficulties with the wake up service.

Very good value for the money. I'd seen other reviews saying the Camino Real had some problems with administration. That's true. The renovated hotel is a real architectural gem and the bar with a giant dome towering above it is especially grand. There were a number of great rooms making the hotel a perfect location for a wedding or business conference. And although El Paso does not have tons to see, the hotel is close to the border of Mexico, making for an easy walk over to Juarez for those who are interested.
