Absolutely Phobulous

Vietnamese WeHo Style

Review Rating
Unless you are prepared to drive out towards Wilshire and Western, this is the best Vietnamese food you're going to find close to West Hollywood. Absolutely Phobulous (pronounced more like the TV show than the food in our part of town) is a dependable fast restaurant. It's usually packed because it's popular, cheap, healthy and tasty. Prices are cheap--around $ 30 for two bowls of pho spring rolls and two Vietnamese ice coffees. Considering the high quality of and freshness of the food, I wish the menu selection was a little larger and offered some more selection. This restaurant fine for lunch or dinner. The only problem is that street parking on La Cienega is tight.

best pho north of koreatown

My favorite in Los Angeles is Pho 2000's oxtail soup, but if I can't make it down there, Absolutely Phobulous makes a decent pho bo. Ask for the low carb version for less noodles and more meat.

In Short A more centrally located alternative to the traditional, famed pho restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley and downtown L.A., this petite red-walled oasis serves up traditional Vietnamese soups like its playful beef noodle soup namesake, along with many vegetarian and weigh watching options. The menu also includes cold Spring Rolls and fried Imperial Rolls, green papaya salad, chicken ... more

as a vietnamese person living in la, it's hard to find decent authentic vietnamese food. this place actually compares favorably to the vietnamese restaurants in little saigon in orange county, & i eat here or @ its ventura blvd branch @ least 1-2x/wk. the so-called vietnamese restaurants in koreatown are all owned by koreans or chinese, & are about as authentic as pf chang's is for chinese food. ... more

There isn't much pho to be fou...

There isn't much pho to be found in the West Hollywood/Beverly/Grove vicinity, so this place is the go-to place when you don't want to drive half an hour for a hearty bowl of broth. The pho isn't the most flavorful I've had, but it's certainly good, and consistent. Not too many tables and it can get pretty busy at dinnertime. Parking can be tricky too.

Quite flavorful beef broth (with a hint of star anis), perfect for lunch. They also offer low-carb versions with more meat and half the noodles. Decor and atmosphere are far more inviting than your usual pho restaurant.

The only reason that I tried this place is because it was on west of Korea town, and it proved once again that there is no good pho west of Korea town. I spent last summer living off of 3 bowls a day, believe me when I say that this place is slightly more expensive than others, slightly smaller than others, and far less tasty than others. Pho shouldn't be stingy like this one.

This tiny Pho house keeps my cravings under control when I can't make the hour-long trip to OC. Very decent Pho - though lacking the wide range of ingredients you expect to find in authentic Pho-houses - flavorfull broth and good summer rolls (though they call them spring rolls here, we always get confused) keep me coming back often. Their Xiu Xiu chicken is also fantastic, mostly due to the amazing ... more

Very good pho and fast!

The waiter is there solely to bring your food to the table, but since your pho is typically ready in less than 3 minutes, what else do you really need from him? The pho is excellent! One downside is that the restaurant is not open on Sundays which is typically when pho is needed to aid in recovery from the weekend.

Dine elsewhere.

I eat a lot of pho. I mean A LOT. But this place just didn't have it goin on. I ordered seafood pho and it had a very strange taste to it. The broth did tasted more like a canned soup stock or something--I still can't put my finger on it. Also, the seafood was not very fresh tasting. The fish cake had a sort of off taste to them. I also ordered egg rolls, which just okay. I really wanted to ... more

I was so happy to find this place, I don't have to drive 30 miles for good pho anymore! The service was fast and friendly, my pho was awesome (I basically got Pho Tai, because I have gotten some scary meatballs before) but when I go back, I am getting the meatballs too, as everything else about the place was superb. Great prices too!

+ Great pho, quick service for lunch, excellent price

Cute little Vietnamese restaurant in the middle of West Hollywood. Good food, right price, and absolutely Phobulous. If you're in the area and craving for pho or other exotic Vietnamese food, this is the place to visit. They also have authentic Vietnamese paintings (artists are actually from Vietnam) for sale on their walls.

Pros

+ Good food

Cons

- Can't accomodate a large group

Great fast, cheap, wonderful food.

Everything I've had here has been phobulous. The pho soups are wonderful on a cold winter night, the firecracker beef is melt in your mouth delicious, the vegi stir is spicy but flavorful.... You can't go wrong! Remember to have a boba to top off the meal.

Pros

+ Great food

Cons

- Tiny space

Really really good!

I had a huge craving for pho and this was the only place I could find close to my place in Hollywood. I was not expecting great food, but this place was wonderful! The broth was really tasty, the meatballs were good and the meat good quality. I had a fab iced coffee some kind of three layer dessert with red beans, coconut milk, ice and jelloey strips. Weird but WONDERFUL.

The cafe is so cute - perfect for a casual date. The food is good too! I think there is only 3 Vietnamese restaurants in the area, and this is by far the best. My Asian friends & I really like eating here, and we think it's authentic.

Pros

+ Great Taste, Very Affordable, Cute Setup

Cons

- Too small for lg grps

This is a great restaurant! Getting the pho with no noodles and adding the red hot sauce on a day where you're feeling tired or yucky completely turns it around! Mmmmm I'm stopping there and picking food up tonight for sure! Fresh, simple, and healthy, GOOO to PHO!
