The Scene A dimly lit chandelier with gold extensions hangs over maroon-and-white striped upholstery. High ceilings and individual booths ensure patrons a grand but subdued evening out. Although only diners facing the Elizabeth River get a view of the boats and the boardwalk passersby, everyone gets an eyeful of the maritime via paintings, drawings and even building plans of ships...

I stayed at the Renaissance Portsmouth for two nights while visiting the Norfolk/Portsmouth area. The Renaissance is a beautiful hotel right on the water, and all rooms have a water view due to the way the hotel is situated. The lobby area is beautiful and the rooms are clean, new, and well-appointed with nice bathrooms and comfortable furnishings.

The Renaissance is a beautiful hotel on the water in downtown Portsmouth. However on my visits to the hotel, I found the staff to be very rude. I also did not like having to pay for parking at the hotel. The garage is attached to the building but they did not validate if you are a guest. Would not recommend due to poor service.
There is a lot of value added qualities at the The Renaissance Portsmouth. The staff and guests were quite friendly. The hotel restaurant and bar was top notch. The room was large, clean and comfortable with an interesting view. ...
