As the name implies, P.S. 122 was once a public school, but now it serves as a local community arts and culture center. Accordingly, the P.S. now stands for Public Space . Local groups use the building to mount dance, theatre, music and caberat programs. There are two performance spaces as well as a gallery space, and the shows tend to be avant garde and experimental.

Shows with longer runs are performed in a more intimate setting on the first... more

PS 122 is reasonably priced (an inexpensive alternative to Broadway) and each of their plays are insightful. I always leave a show with lots to talk and think about. PS 122 also has an art gallery with... more

Public Space 122 is a non-profit theater venue that shows mostly experimental theater, avant garde dance and all sorts of performance art pieces, and hosts festivals like the Fringe. Playwrights and troupes can also hone their works in progress before they can take them to bigger stages. If you are ever in the mood for a weirdly fascinating experience, this is the place to go.

A venue to see dance, performance art, plays, comedy, and multi-media shows. Most shows are under $20. You can get in free if you usher. Cutting-edge and established artists appear. "Alumni" (e.g., Tim Miller, Richard Maxwell) appear regularly.
