What the community has to say about Power House

Information about this business (2)

Although this dive bar is a block away from Mann's famed Chinese Theater, you won't find many tourists. Surprisingly, most of the patrons tend to be Hollywood die hard fans. Those who know order a pitcher of domestic beer - pour some quarters into the jukebox and hear everyone from Charlie Daniels to The Clash to Tom Jones and Peggy Lee. Once they start drinking, some of the regulars might even...

Established in 1947, Power House has stood as a classic Hollywood watering hole for almost 70 years.

Relaunched in 2014, Power House returns with a full-fledged cocktail program crafted by our barman, Damian Windsor, that draws its inspiration from classic libations of the early 20th century.

Another of Tinseltown’s “quintessential ‘trendy dives’” – “loud” and “crowded”, with dartboards and “cheap” drinks – this former “toilet bowl” of a bar was “cleaned up significantly” after the Hollywood & Highland development opened a decade ago; that said, it still rings with “authenticity”, thanks to its “reasonable costs” and “boozy clientele” (that swears it’s a “real dump, but totally...

A dark, serious dive with a great juke. Daytime drunks, Jack Black, animated staff, and the odd Stella Adler student researching barflies. Do not mess with owner John Power. He's got an eye for trouble, which is quickly dispatched to the curb, all set to the musical stylings of The Ruts and Buzzcocks. With the demise of Daddy's, it's starting to feel like one of the few neighborhood places left.

No dress code, no guest list--escape the glitterati at this rockin' and raucous Hollywood dive bar.

The Scene
Standing directly across the street from the grand Hollywood & Highland complex, this grungy, neighborhood dive bar is the antithesis of the new vision city planners have for...

There was a time that I would have given Power House a 5 star review. Old rocker bartenders that take no shit, $2 PBR specials, a jukebox full of great tunes (and if you're nice, the bartenders...

Super hipster staff and cocktails. Mixology with a questionnaire. The mixologist makes sure the drinks are well mixed/balanced. I got free beer cause she was too cool for school. Be sure to give...

Turn off the power. These cocktails are low voltage trapped in a hip looking, x-dive that may provide more but I'm too sober to look. The Hampton at $13 their Bulleit Rye twist on a classic...
