Pom's Thai Bistro

Won't go back

Review Rating
Sorry, but we won't go back. Unfortunately, our evening with our son, who was visiting from out of town and leaving that same evening, was a "disaster." Arriving at the second floor restaurant via a darkened staircase, we were seated near the restrooms. Then, we were told they were out of menus. Suddenly, three were produced for our table. We waited and waited just for some water. A hostess came into the section where we had been seated by another hostess complaining that we should never have been seated there. We're not sure what that was about, as we simply sat where we were directed. While we waited for service, we noticed that other guests seated in our same section after we were came in were being served. Finally, our server came and took our orders. After an extremely long wait, our food came out, edible but certainly not hot. Our server then knocked over a glass of wine spilling wine in our son's plate and down the front of his clothing. He went to the men's room and attempted to remedy the situation. There was no offer of cleaning, and he would have to set out on his trip home in wet clothes. Later, I wrote to the management but received neither an apology nor a reply of any kind. We have eaten at several Thai restaurants in Jacksonville, and there are many that far outshine Pom's. Those we plan to patronize.

Thai is the quintessential fusion cuisine, folding ingredients from the Western Hemisphere -- peanuts and fiery chilies -- into dishes built on the Asian dietary staples of rice, noodles and fish.

Authentic Thai spices and flavors transform staples like tuna steaks and sea bass into works of art. Chilean sea bass in an herbaceous green curry and coconut milk sauce---a Pom's signature dish---has been known to leave diners moaning in pleasure. Beautifully presented plates and such eclectic offerings as seared tuna over crispy spinach with citrus vinaigrette separate this white tablecloth... more

Without ever trying Thai food, a friend and I experienced "Thai Bistro" and were very happy we went there! The food was amazing... FRESH, beautiful presentation, memorable...

The restaurant was beautifully hidden atop a well-preserved historic building with interior exposed brick, beatiful art, and comforting colors.

Eating at Pom's is a dining experience. Not only is the food delicious, the place has such an inviting ambience. Top that off with an excellent selection of wines and all of your needs are taken care of. I've been dining at Pom's for many years now. Every experience has been wonderful. So, I thought I'd show my appreciation by spreading the word!

This place is a great introduction to Thai food if you're looking to expand your palate. You can choose the level of heat in your food, which is great if you're taking a mixed crowd with you. I took my in-laws, who are not very food-adventurous, and they loved it. I liked everything about it!

Pros

+ Food, attention to detail with decor and ambience

Cons

- Parking can be a challenge
