Tiers of flowers adorn the sidewalk out front and gardening supplies are abundant inside. In addition, gardeners can purchase bulk spices to season the fruits--and vegetables--of their labors, as well as teas, coffees and seeds. Bulk items are stored in large wooden bins, and then ladled into a paper bag, which is tied shut with a string, just like in the old days.

The Scene Planters is tucked among a row of storefronts dating back to the mid-19th century. Its hardwood floor inside shows the wear of over a century of foot traffic. This is always one of the first places I hit when I'm down in the farmers market. Besides having a HUGE selection of seeds and spices, they have really cool yard nicknack's and just a lot of misc. little trinkets. It's almost like a treasure hunt, you'll never know what you're going to find. I love this neat little market. Make sure you stop by if you're ever in the farmers market!!

Any spice you might be looking for you can find here. It has the best smells you could imagine. Right down by City Market, you can get your vegetables and your spices all at once.

This is a great place to check out in the river market part of kansas city. My husband's family used to buy seed for their farm business over 50 years ago in this store. This place has morphed over the the years to an urban destination shopping spot for not only seed but spices, garden nursery items, birdseed and much more.
