My kids (4 and 2) love Pinecrest Gardens, especially the splash park (get there early because it can get very busy). Having grown up near the park when it was Parrot Jungle, it is so much more functional for the neighborhood as a free park rather than tourist attraction (no offense to the parrots!) Take plenty of mosquito repellent also - it is beautiful and lush and the mosquitos love it!

I first visited this place 25 years ago when it was the original Parrot Jungle. I grew up next door to the park and to the original owners. Our family among others worked hard to fight the new owners who wanted to turn it into a major theme park. This is one of our favorite places to go and spend a fun day. We usually bring our own lunch, like sandwiches, chips and ice cold water bottles...but occacionally we buy at the consetion stand where 2 hot dogs, 2 chips and 2 drinks run us about $10.00 (not bad since all the to-do stuff is FREE). We love the splash area, although the shade is limited for us parents, so I suggest to get there... more
