Gross. My husband and I recently moved downtown and went to the Piggly Wiggly for the first time last week. The produce was not very fresh. I bought an avocado that felt OK, and when I got home and cut it open the inside was dark brown and spoiled. We needed fresh mozarella (which I was AMAZED to find here) but when I opened the vacuum-sealed package I discovered that the cheese had a foul odor and was also spoiled! I bought some pita bread that was nowhere near it's sell-by date and was kept refrigerated, yet when I opened the package found that some of the pitas were moldy. ...

The ""pig"" is close so I shop there sometimes for the basics. Tonight, I saw moldy produce and moved on to keep shopping. I picked up some eggs out of the refrigerator case and they were warm! I looked at the thermometer and it was at 60 degrees (the highest it could go), but the temperature was obviously a lot higher!!! It is sad that something as dangerous as warm eggs and possible bacterial exposure are a problem at a store serving thousands of Memphians, especially the elderly and young who are more likely to die from such exposure. BE CAREFUL!!!!!
