Serving American, this is an upscale facility. Expect the average entrée to cost between $12 and $20, and plan to fit the scene by dressing casual, but fashionable.

In Short A sumptuous setting features elegant wood paneled walls and refined service. This bistro offer a traditional three-course menu that includes an extensive range of gourmet dishes. Start with an open ravioli with veal and wild mushroom or prosciutto wrapped prawns with tomato salsa. In an impressively renovated former gentleman's club that also houses an upscale banquet business, the Phoenix is Cincinnati's best-kept fine dining secret. Its dishes are impeccably rendered, and the menu has gotten much more adventurous in recent years. Offering such delicacies as prosciutto-wrapped prawns and beef tenderloin kebabs to start, filet mignon Oscar and Dijon-rubbed rack of lamb... more

I keep thinking about a recent dinner I had at the Phoenix, sifting through what it was that I enjoyed so much about my experience. The attentive, professional service? The comfortable, old-world décor and atmosphere? The expertly prepared and delicious food? Yes, yes and yes. But there is something else going on at the Phoenix -- an agreeable (and increasingly rare) sensation of uniqueness... more

4-course prix fixe value

Service is prompt and professional. The restaurant is quiet enough to have a conversation. Dress is business to business casual.

However, I was less impressed by the food. The soup was too salty, the... more

The best thing about the Phoenix is that there is really nothing terrible about it. The worst thing is that there is nothing really great about it. Maybe the historical building is great, but for me atmosphere is only 25% of the equation when I go to a restaurant like the Phoenix.
This is another restaurant that tries to get there but just quite cannot. Part of it is that the Cincinnati... more

Phoenix Reception

My wife and I held our wedding reception at the Phoenix, in the Grand Ballroom, and it was wonderful. While I am bias, it was the best reception I have ever been to (and I have been to a few of them). I am still getting compliments about the Fillet Minion to this day from our guests.

Pros

+ Staircase, Wonderful Ambience, Great Food

Cons

- Expensive, Exclusive, No Hotel
