Rude, Arrogant Staff Who Can't Even Change Oil Right

Unless you want trouble, avoid Petty's Tire & Auto at all costs.

They are rude, rude, RUDE and totally ARROGANT! Horrible customer service! You get there 10 minutes before closing and, though they close at 5, they'll say to you, "Can't you see we're closed?" and refuse to take your car in. You ask them how long will an oil change take, and they say 10-15 minutes. So, first strike, they won't stay an extra 5 minutes to keep a customer high-tailed it there after work, getting there 10 minutes early. If your place closes at 4:50, you need to put that as your closing time, not 5:00 p.m.

Still, we persisted and went there the next day and made it in time.

And, they ended up doing very costly damage our car during the routine oil change and refused to fix it.

Here are the details...

We went to Petty's on Rt. 57 in Washington, NJ for a $24.99 oil change using a coupon we got in the Money Mailer.

We went in with a perfectly sound car.

We came out with a $468 damaged oil pan that leaked profusely.

Damage was not there about a week prior when our mechanic thoroughly checked out our car prior to our buying it.

No one else was under the car after that and before Petty's.

According to our very experienced and trustworthy mechanic, Petty's 100% KNEW there was damage at the time, both when removing the drain plug and when jamming it back in.

They said NOTHING to us.

Owner and manager of Petty's both disclaimed responsibility BEFORE even investigating.

Owner and manager both blamed previous person who changed oil change BEFORE even investigating.

When questioned how they could come to such a conclusion without investigating it, they took a look and found the stripped threads in the pan.

They refused to do ANYTHING to compensate us for the damage they caused.

Manager of Petty's actually blamed our car for having "too many miles" on it!

And so, we have learned that both the silver-haired owner, and the dark-haired manager/mechanic are extremely unethical in their business dealings; that they avoid taking responsibility for their mistakes; that they will not report an oil leak they caused (which almost seized our engine)... and they basically told us to "sue them" in order to make things right, as they sent us on our way.

A suit is our likely course of action -- suing for direct damages, for attorney fees, and for car rental costs.

I may file a longer review here with additional details as time allows.

Until then, do not trust Petty's to even walk your dog. From what we've seen so far, these guys are very bad mechanics, business people and human beings.
