I'd have to admit, at the beginning, I thought its going to be a long bike ride along the beach. However, I was wrong. Its electric bike, so it look like a bicycle but it feels like riding a moped. When I first tried their riding, its a little heavier than I would thought, but after a little practice, I start getting used to it.
I think 2 things made me had a rough start, first of all, I am short (5'1), and even when they lower the seats I still have a hard time reaching the ground when I was on the bike. Second, I am not very strong and the bike is a little heavy compare to my bike at home.
These don't really bothered me, because once I learn how to use the power properly, I can ride it well like everyone.
Our guide, Barb, who also owns' the business was very nice. While we were on the tour, she talked about the local history, and tour around the beach. We had a lots of photo opportunities on the way which I enjoyed a lot.
We went on the afternoon tour, which started at 2. The weather was nice, however, with 15 mph speed riding along the beach, it getting a little cold when the sun start going down. So, definitely bring a light jacket for that. The bike tour itself won't make you sweat, unless you choose to ride the whole time.
I will recommend this tour for people who want to visit Santa Monica but don't have couple days to spend there. This tour will help you sample Santa Monica and Venice area in a nice and fun way.
I found this electric bicycle guided tour very unique, and it had everything that makes for an interesting thing-to-do as a visitor in a city. Knowledgeable and warm guide, well-maintained and efficient electric bikes, nicely sketched out tour route - all make up for an exciting 2.5 hours worth of tour. Add to it that the entire process to register and start the tour is so hassle-free, I found this tour worth every penny. Highly recommended as the first thing to do in Santa Monica!!!
While visiting Santa Monica recently, my husband and I, who enjoy cycling--and who really needed some exercise after all great meals we'd had--decided to give Pedal or Not a try based on all the great reviews. What a fun idea! We booked online for a tour the next day and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip! As soon as we arrived, Stephen fitted us for our bikes and after a quick lesson, Barb led the two of us on a fun and informative tour through Santa Monica and along the beach to the Santa Monica Pier and then south to Venice Beach and the canals. Barb was a lot of fun and very knowledgeable about the history of the area, which we always enjoy, and also added some fun info about filming locales and celebrities. We both started out pedaling but it wasn't long before we used the extra power from the electric battery to get through intersections and over the canals in Venice. Barb couldn't have been nicer and kindly took pictures for us on our cell phones. We will definitely do this on our next visit! This isn't just for tourists! One of our daughter's friends had never seen the Venice canals even though he's from the area and thought this would be a great way to see them after hearing about our experience. We couldn't agree more!
My 16 year old and I took this tour and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. We toured Santa Monica as well as Venice beach and the Venice canals. Barbara and Stephen were knowledgeable (and safe) guides. Barbara took many photos of us and our group then also emailed them to us. We are both very experienced bikers so thought we would "pedal" most of the ride but found it relaxing and fun to let the bike "pedal itself".
What a wonderful bike tour it was. The ""pedal or not "" thing is really cool. The tour itself is fun and the tour guide has some interesting tidbits and facts about the area, Venice Beach, Santa Monica Pier, etc. What a great way to enjoy the outdoors and to exercise ( how much of that you get is up to you ). I really enjoyed blowing by everyone else when the motor was activated. I would do it again in a heartbeat!\r
I've been on some great bike trips but the electric bikes are just too much fun. They are also very comfortable and very easy to ride. What a way to spend a day at the beach see new territory and have a blast. They also made it very interesting as they had a lot of information about the area and a little bit of gossip on the stars. I think everyone of all ages and all levels of fitness would enjoy the ride.
