This elegant lobby bar in the grand Peabody Hotel has been restored to its original late 19th century glory, although with modern comforts added. Couches and overstuffed chairs make for a relaxing place in which to enjoy the player piano or the live music that takes place on weekend nights. The lobby is crowded, when the famous Peabody ducks march to and from their place in the lobby... more

The Scene For decades the hotel's resident "duckmaster" has each morning directed five mallards from their rooftop Royal Duck Palace to the lobby, where they march along a red carpet to an Italian fountain to the tune of a John Philip Sousa march. (They return to their palace with equal ceremony in the early evening.) Not only does this take place in one of the most refined hotels in... more

There's no more elegant place in Memphis for a drink, but be sure you drop in well after the crowds who've gathered to watch the Peabody ducks do their daily march have dispersed, usually shortly after 5pm. Piano music is featured in the evenings. If you were to have only one drink while in Memphis, it should be here.

For years, the Peabody enjoyed a reputation as one of the finest hotels in the South. In recent years, however, the property is showing its age. A complete renovation scheduled to begin in the spring of 2004 should rectify that. The public spaces, however, retain an air of unmatched elegance. Marble columns, gilded mezzanine railings, hand-carved and burnished woodwork, and ornate gilded... more

It seems the Peabody is caught up in their own reputation and mystique. A two night stay of expected rest, was anything but restful. Our first room was very small and quite dusty. The shower wouldn't drain. We waited an hour for maintenance to clear it with a line, and were left with a dirty tub. We were not aware there was a Fraternity Convention of 700 members staying at the hotel... more

The Peabody hotel definitely has the nicest accomodations I've stayed at while traveling. From the moment you walk in, you feel an excitement in the air. Every detail exudes luxury, from the fresh flowers in every arrangement in the lobby to the thread count of the bedding. The guest rooms are large yet still feel very intimate. Warm colors and clean lines are a beautiful balance. The... more

The Peabody is the premier hotel in Memphis! There is no where else that I would consider staying while visiting Memphis. The restaurants are very good and the location is superb.
